R* has MP3 DLC planned till December.

Correction. That's planned until fall, October I assume. Unless you have a link saying December?

Ok it says FALL not December. But FALL goes till November included so...

It just doesn't make sense to have a 2012 release for V imo.

But releasing One month before or after Bioshock does make sense?

7 DLCs. What a f*cking joke.

Yeah, that'd be not a smart move from Rockstar. That'd hurt the sales of Bioshock Infinite. The DLCs of Max Payne 3 are a joke. That is "cherrypicking with money". wink.gif

Exactly... "oh no no, we're making them after we released the game", okay yeah that might be legitimate but there's no need for 7 DLCs since everyone's bored of the linear shooter that is MP3 anyway.

@dimitrispgr: GTA SA was announced on March 2nd 2004. The first trailer came in August, the second in September and the last in October. The game was released in the same month as the last trailer.

GTA IV was announced on E3 2006 and the release date was announced too. Then we heard nothing for about 9-10 months. Then the first trailer was released and 3 months later there was the second trailer. Then the game was delayed from October 2007 to April 2008. wink.gif

thank you !!

OK i just saw the

Came out in August WITH A RELEASE DATE for two months later...

When GTA IV October (not the delayed one) release date was announced?

I don't like to reply in this topic because I feared it that people will start flamewars because of me. whatsthat.gif Anyway I don't like it when people say that I live in a dreamworld just because I believe that we will see GTA V before of the end of this year. confused.gif It's not unrealistic. I know you people don't want to be disappointed again. I believe that the release is in 2012 but I won't be disappointed if the game won't come out this year. But I have one question for the May 2013 believer: Why did TakeTwo predict such a high ammount of money this fiscal year? They predicted 1.8 billion dollar. 1 billion (60%) dollar from Rockstar and 800 million(40%) dollar from 2K. TakeTwo even predicted 300 million dollar for Max Payne 3 + DLCs and 150 million dollar from the magazines. That'd be just 450 million dollar from Rockstar but why did they predict 1 billion dollar? Btw Max Payne 3 make 100 million dollar. If TakeTwo don't expect the release of GTA V this fiscal year then how the f*cking hell should Rockstar make 1 billion dollar? TakeTwo even predicted that this fiscal year will be the best that TakeTwo ever had. They would shoot in their own foot if GTA V won't come out before March 2013. notify.gif Remeber Bioshock Infinite will come out on February 26th 2013. GTA V would hurt the sales of Bioshock. Not everybody can buy 2, 3 or even more games at the same time so it'd hurt the sales. confused.gif Please answer me you "May 2013 believer".

I'll answer on his behalf.

Revenue would be made from the Max Payne 3 DLC (which will mean added interest in the base Max Payne 3 game itself), mobile re-releases, merchandise and sales of older games all add up and contribute to overall revenue. You have got to think; the announcement of Grand Theft Auto V has given a sudden resurgence of interest in the Grand Theft Auto series and thus, people are buying the games and related merchandise - to put this in perspective; GTA: San Andreas has been out for nearly six years and it is still selling ridiculously well considering its age and the reveal of Grand Theft Auto V being set in Los Santos would of renewed interest in GTA: San Andreas which mean sales of the game, which means revenue on Rockstar's/Take-Two's behalf. Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire would also be still selling pretty well as well and would be making up the bulk of their profits.

Just because sales figures aren't disclosed; doesn't mean they aren't there. You have to look deeper; beyond the main game releases. Anything that gets sold with the Rockstar Games logo on it equals more revenue for Rockstar and Tale-Two.

And not everybody who buys Max Payne 3 will automatically buy the DLCs. These DLCs do NOT make much money. The money that Rockstar make with the DLCs is much less even compared to Max Payne 3 itself. Rockstar sold only 1.7 million copies of Max Payne 3 which is very poorly for a AAA-title. wink.gif

Got a figure for the DLC sales? I'm sure they were horribly low. I wouldn't be surprised if they scratched the rest of the DLCs.

1.7 million on consoles , remember PC is the lead platform and most PC sales are online downloads, so i would guess probably 2.5 million+ total sales, and they needed to sell something like 3 million copies total to break even, some DLC that is cheap to make and sells for $15-20 a pop adds quite a lot.

Here is my sources for console Hardcopies, Vg chartz doesn't measure the whole world, but it does do Europe, America, Japan and only Hard-copies.

360 sold 0.95 million copies - http://www.vgchartz.com/game/32878/max-payne-3/

PS3 Sold 0.78 million copies - http://www.vgchartz.com/game/32877/max-payne-3/

Still a flop though.

PC is the lead platform? Most gamers don't have a $1000 gaming rig. And half of the people that do pirates it anyway. Do you even know why a lot of games don't get ported to PC anymore? It sells like sh*t.

think he is talking with regards to cross platforms - hence the term 'ported'

and he is right half the people on PC pirate it if they can. or (like me) get it dirt cheap on a steam summer sale

with games like CoD or GTA console sales way higher than PC

PC is however optimal for rpgs like fallout

Diablo 3 is an online game. You can't pirate it (You can, but then you have to play on cracked servers), and the specs weren't high. other AAA games don't nearly sell as much as they do on consoles.

I thought the retailers bought out the games anyway, meaning no sales from that point on would be included? (except DLCs and mobile etc)

No, not exactly. Everyone involved in getting the game to you has to or desires to make a profit - that is why AAA games cost more when they are newly released because the developer has pumped a lot of money into developing the game. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I do know that the developers make revenue from the games that are sold in either one or both, of two ways:

One; the retailer bulk-buy's copies of a game for a fixed price from a developer; in this case, Rockstar Games; who make a direct revenue from the sale with the retailer with the retailer selling it brand new to the consumers (us, obviously). This is likely done for new or upcoming games, particularly AAA titles, so that the retailer doesn't run out on stock as to meet the demand of the consumers. This is also why a retailer may have copies of a particular game in stock a few days before it is actually released and on sale to the public.

Two; the retailers give a percentage of profits made from sales to the developer; with the developer shipping new copies of a game to the retailer on a near-regular basis, or the retailer making a prediction on how many copies of a game will be sold within a certain period of time. This would involve the retailer working out the number of game copies sold, the price that each unit of the game was sold at and the amount of total revenue the retailer has made and working out a percentage of the profits to give to the developer which would happen no doubt quarterly. This would likely be done for older games as the retailers get a steady flow of new game copies as they are being sold.

As I said, just because sales aren't disclosed, doesn't mean they aren't there.

Either way, I can't see Max Payne 3 and its DLCs + past Rockstar games making $1.08B

Edit: not to mention the sh*tty turnout for last year with GTA IV, L.A noire, RDR, San Andreas etc. I wonder how much was from R*?

They won't. If a brand new game costing $60 doesn't even make 300 million dollars, then a bunch of old games costing $15 won't either. Max Payne was overhyped. The game wasn't all that good. My head hurts just thinking about all of those effects that were supposed to make us believe that Max was drunk/hung over all the time. There were way to many cutscenes, and you couldn't even skip them. The multiplayer is fun for a week, then it starts to get boring. I don't want to buy the DLC, I'm done with Max Payne 3. And so are many others. And people don't go out of their way anymore to find GTA San Andreas or Vice City. Why would you buy it, when you can just download it for free? On the 31st of July, you'll see. GTA V isn't ready yet, so TTWO will back down from their previous statement (That this is their best financial year in a long time). Next year is going to be the year of GTA V, not this year. It's not finished, and in the last two months of the developing process, the only thing they do is testing for bugs. The fact that they say they can't show anything yet proves my point.

And surely you wouldn't want an unfinished game, would you?

You really believe its going to be released in 2012? Really? It's a huge game, the biggest game R* has ever made, and you hope that it will be made in a year? I voted for 2013.

This is just fail.

They've been making it waay before the trailer was released tounge.gif At least attempt to use common sense.

Really? They were on V like 10%. After the trailer was released they were Full Developing, which means 100%. Even if they worked on V before the trailer release, it still wouldn't be released in 2012. THE BIGGEST GAME EVER R* HAS MADE. Does that give you any clue that it won't be made in a year?

But I have one question for the May 2013 believer: Why did TakeTwo predict such a high ammount of money this fiscal year?

They have high hopes maybe for games they have announced and ones they haven't. As I keep saying it's just guessing that this related to GTA V and until I see otherwise I'll ignore it.

I've explained why I think April-May next year. It'll be beating a dead horse for me to explain that again.

I doubt it'll come this year, but let's hope I'll end up being surprised by R* huh...

And you know that Rockstar already said in November that GTA V is their next game after Max Payne? rolleyes.gif TakeTwo expected 300 million dollar from Max Payne 3+ DLCs. A other game MUST come out before the end of the fiscal year. wink.gif

Please read what DTUMan wrote on the page in-front of this. You're entitled to your opinion but GTA v won't be out this year and I don't see how it can possibly fit from January to March next year with Bioshock been out in February.

Anyway not long now before we read more of your bible...... I mean here from Take Two. tounge2.gif

Thought I'd just post the timespans between release date announcement and release for previous games:

Past GTA's (I checked Vice City, San Andreas and GTA IV) had their release dates announced at least 5 months before release.

Date announced > Released

Vice City: May 21st, 2002 > October 22nd, 2002 (5 months exactly, game in development for 1 year)

San Andreas: March 1st, 2004 > October 19th 2004 (Over 7 months, game in development for 2 years)

GTA IV (Original date expectation): May 9th, 2006 > October 19th 2007 (Original expected wait: 1 year, 5 months, game intended to be in development for 3 years)

Obviously IV's delay mucks things up but it shows what was planned. 3 months would be very unusual and hugely different from GTA IV's almost 1 and a half years in advance release date announcement.

PEOPLE. 2013 doesn't sound like the time they will release it, R* is smart enough to release in october, november or december. November we have black friday, huge seller. December we have christmas, huge seller. R* is smart enough to release then! Just because they have only 1 trailer and 2 screen shots doesn't mean that its not going to be released this year? They dont have to give us more then they already have, the game could be so big they dont want us finding to much about the surprise.
