It didn't do as well as Rockstar hoped it would. And with Max Payne 3, I think Rockstar shot themselves in the foot by releasing the GTA V trailer right before Max Payne 3's marketing campaign took off. But that doesn't really matter. The truth is, MP3 didn't do well, and in order to make up the lost profits from the last two/three years, GTA V has to be released soon.

Yeah, that was a stupid move from Rockstar to release the GTA V trailer before the marketing campaign of Max Payne 3 started. rolleyes.gif

I agree, in retrospect, that release of the GTAV Trailer hurt MP3, rather than helped. But this was due to the way it was done, not due to the actual trailer release itself, in my humble analysis:

It's a shame, because if Rockstar had a competent marketing department, they may have been able to get the best of both worlds. If they had just accompanied the GTAV Trailer with a realistic indication of when GTAV might come out -- the release of GTAV confirmed as being so far out in the future (say for example, Jan 2013) that people would buy MP3 to fill in that long long time, and know that they have time to save up for another game (GTAV) when it comes around.

But with no GTAV context whatsoever, people were free to think that the GTAV marketing campaign had actually started and that GTAV might come out, coincidentally and ironically, about the time that MP3 actually came out. How were we to know? Given a choice in the same time frame, who would not pick GTAV over MP3?

It was only after several agonizing months that we realized how entirely F-ked up this no-info GTAV marketing decision has been. So what I am postulating, in retrospect, is that the GTAV information drought and release-date uncertainty created at the time of the Trailer, has actually hurt MP3's sales and sales momentum.

No wonder they canned that marketing guy....

GTA IV, for comparison, cost ~$100 million to create and sold ~$500 million in the first week. They have to release GTA V before the end of this FY, or they run the risk of being closed/sold, and nobody wants that.

Like I said on another thread, I don't see those figures possible.

6 million sold for 500 million? 83,- per sold game?

I did not pay that much, I paid 60,- for mine..

AND Take Two will not get the full amount, half if lucky.

So they will not sell enough in a week, or a month (IMO, not bothered to calculate, hangoverish..).

I think that R* is going to spend the rest of the year by giving out max payne 3 DLC and somewhere we might get another trailer and some info aboot the game. It cannot be released that fast (Thats what he said) so they will wait til 2013 because what rockstar wants to do is release a game every year

2010 RDR

2011 LA NOIRE

2012 MAX PAYNE3

That's NOT a clue. RDR was delayed from fall 2009 to spring 2010. L.A. Noire was delayed from fall 2010 to spring 2011. Max Payne 3 was delayed fron the fall 2009 to spring 2012. And in 2009 was GTA EfLC released. So your points are all invalid. icon14.gif

cuz Forecasts Based on predicitons for the Revenues yet to come in a three months old shareholder Conf call is a proof to you?

FY do you even know how the stocks market works? they constantly assume and anticipate things.

And change their opinions to sway the stocks' prices.

Hence the new conf call due in seven days

I basically destroyed your all arguement

so stop acting like an omnicient prophet

telling "it's not a evidence"

when your main point isn't an evidence either

but more of another sh*t load of assuming sh*t of nothing but others predictions

How ignorant are you? notify.gif You don't understand that if TakeTwo don't reach the predictions that the probability that they would be bought by EA or Actision is relavely high. TakeTwo must reach the predictions, even surpass the predictions AND earn the money as big as the losses from L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3. That's more difficult than you think, my friend. The best fiscal year in the history of TakeTwo like they predicted is NOT possible without Grand Theft Auto. dozingoff.gif

oh wait... you still haven't understood...

assuming has never been a proof.

You are ignorant sir.

But even if he assumes, he's got some strong points in there that are very logic, and they should be listened to even if they turn out to be wrong, cause that's all we have right now, and that's why this is an forum, to discuss this...

man... just.. don't..

We've back and forth with CJ Brian for a long ass time

don't worry, we already discussed this

in various threads

with both very detailed and precise arguements

but the bottom line

we only assuming. there is NO proof for either of us

i won't explain here again why

so it's useless to call "no evidence" when your own theory is based on predictions

we just wait til we have a REAL proof. and then we will be able to have interpretation

Cant wait to feel ur pain when the game is announced for 2013 wink.gif

Dont be so immature.

And i cant believe how many people think that this game will come in 2012 suicidal.gif This Financial things are no proof for a release date, is that so hard to understand?

GTA5 is clearly scheduled for 2013. Probably April or May 2013.

Yeah if the forcast calls for a GTAV year still, that year ends March 2013. Not direct evidence to 2012, but direct evidence it come fall/winter instead of next spring/summer/winter. Still pretty huge.

Oh, it's because we have good reasons to believe in a release in 2012. wink.gif These financial things are a better evidence than your "GTA5 is clearly scheduled for 2013. Probably April or May 2013". You don't even say why you think this so don't wonder that there are people that don't accept your opinion. dozingoff.gif Anyway you want to know why I doubt a release in April, May or even later in 2013? I've written many reasons but now I have something that are not just financial things etc etc. wink.gif You know that Rockstar released the GTA V trailer in November, right? Here the period of time between the first trailer and the release from the games of Rockstar since GTA SA.

GTA SA: First trailer in August 2004, released in October 2004 (2 months between first trailer and release)

Bully: First trailer in August 2006, released in October 2006 (2 months between first trailer and release)

Manhunt 2: First trailer in February 2007, released in October 2007 (8 months between first trailer and release)

GTA IV: First trailer in March 2007, released in April 2008 (13 months between first trailer and release, but the game was delayed for 6 months because of issues on the PS3)

Midnight Club Los Angeles: First trailer in August 2007, released in October 2008 (13 months between first trailer and release, but the game was delayed for 7 months because of GTA IV)

Red Dead Redemption: First trailer in October 2009, released in May 2010 (7 months between first trailer and release, but the game was delayed for one month)

L.A. Noire: First trailer in October 2010, released in May 2011 (7 months between first trailer and release, but the game was delayed BEFORE the first trailer)

Max Payne 3: First trailer in September 2011, released in May 2012 (8 months between first trailer and release, but the game was delayed 3 years before and then delayed from March 2012 to May 2012)

GTA V: First trailer in November 2011, release is still TBA (To Be Announced) (BUT it's already nearly 9 months between the first trailer and now)

You see what I mean? So every game was supposed to be released at latest 8 months after the trailer and GTA V already broke it for 3 months! By the way it's still possible that GTA V will be released this year. October - December would be the best time. Why? Because the sales in the fall are WAY WAY higher than at the start of a new year. THAT'S A F*CKING FACT NOW! sly.gif

No. Not 8 month after the trailer but 8 month after they STARTED WITH THEIR MARKETING. R* didnt start with it yet. There were another trailer for RDR and LA Noire by the way. LA Noires one was in august 2009 and RDRs one was in 2005^^

Ahhh and now, while you have the list with rockstars releases done: Can you tell me when R* did release 2 AAA games in the same year? I can't see it in your list. Midnight club doesnt really count...

Its just wishful thinking what you're doing, mate.

im taking a guess Christmas 2012 for all the little boys and girls who arn't even old enough to play the game, then moms will be getting upset because there is too much violence and crap even though the kid isn't even old enough to play it. there will probably be a news storm on release.

The 2005 Old West Project video cannot be considered a trailer, teaser, or preview for a game that was not announced until 2009. It was a tech demo from the studio that had recently completed Red Dead Revolver. It was not intended to announce an actual future game then.

The 2006 L.A. Noire trailer was revealed to be a target render (not actual footage of any actual build of the game) because the PS3, the intended target platform at the time, had yet to be released. Rockstar made a point of titling the first proper L.A. Noire trailer in 2010 "First Trailer".
