initium
There are a bunch of great titles scheduled for the rest of the year: - Assassins Creed III - Halo 4 - Call Of Duty: Black Ops II ...and more... These games all together will be a great competition for GTA V, (if it is going to be released this year) So there's only one way to overrule the competition: You must know that a lot of the games listed above already have trailers, screenshots, and gameplay released and have ruled the gaming magazines lately... If GTA V will be announced two months before it's release this will happen: - All magazines and gaming websites will have GTA V on their covers and frontpages with screenshots, trailers, and gameplay for 2 months until it's release. - Other competing games will still be mentioned, but in the background... A lot of people won't hear about these games for a while once GTA V overrules the magazines and gaming websites. - Basically all attention will go to GTA V and once it releases, it will pretty much be best selling game by far for a while! - People also prefer to buy the newest thing, and since games like Assassins Creed III has had a gameplay trailer and some other videos online for more than half a year, people will be more excited about the ''new'' game (GTA V) Here's what happens if they announce (or would have announced it) 4-5-6 months before release: - Magazines and gaming sites will talk mostly about GTA V for a few weeks/months, but after that, other games will be back in the picture upon release. - When GTA V releases it will sell great as always, but still the competition is great, and a lot of sales will be lost... Rockstar Games is a company, and the most important thing is to sell as much as possible, and even if they're excited, they will try to say absolutely nothing for months and ''dissapoint'' fans (for a while) if in the end that will cause the sales to be higher! So don't rule out an October release, it's still possible, and I'm actually expecting it, also because of the fiscal prediction thingy...

Yacapo
i did, and i hope you are right...in my opinion october is still possible. initium
i did, and i hope you are right...in my opinion october is still possible. It is all very logic... why would they have released a trailer so soon if this isn't the explanation? And why would they say that 60% of the cash would come from Rockstar, not Max Payne 3... I can't wait for July 31th now.. D-day!

GR7
I suppose it would work but the thing we are forgetting is it basically started in November, R* knew all they had to do was release a single trailer to sustain hype about the game for a long duration. People I know that aren't even fully into games are aware that GTAV is coming. They could not release a second trailer and just throw us a some adverts a few weeks before the games release and it would still do much better than GTAIV's numbers. The drought of anything GTA related combined with a higher install base of PS3/360 users means R* doesn't need to worry much about marketting compared to MP3. I Luke
Some of that is stupid and entirely your opinion. Also, GTA doesn't need all the attention because its a huge game like COD. Here's what happens if they announce (or would have announced it) 4-5-6 months before release: - Magazines and gaming sites will talk mostly about GTA V for a few weeks/months, but after that, other games will be back in the picture upon release. - When GTA V releases it will sell great as always, but still the competition is great, and a lot of sales will be lost... That's so stupid, Like I said, GTA is just as big as COD meaning other games will be back in the picture along with GTA. There is always a competition but GTA is completely different to those other games and so it has it's own big community who like this type of game. theworldfamous
So anyone actually read it? I did, and it's a valuable marketing strategy.. just not for Rockstar and V at this point. The crowding of big titles this fall probably means they'll rather take the extra development time and ship in spring, like ALL their games this generation. The Gardener
There is nothing else i'm looking forward to than GTA 5. I'm as big as a GTA fan can be. But I just can't see it releasing this year. matt_be
You have some good points that I haven't realized yet. The thing about Rockstar promoting the game for 4-5-6 months before release was what stood out to me. And what you said to back up the idea that that wouldn't be ideal seemed realistic. I hope you are correct, and I hope that Rockstar believes in that method as well.
krspkbl
I still think they can make a October release if they do this. July 26th they could give us a countdown to trailer 2. A week later on the 2nd August they put out trailer 2 with the release date (or separate on the newswire). Marketing will have officially started. Trailer 3 would be released most likely in early/mid September. Trailer 4 could be released early October with the game being released 23rd October. HeNDo6750
Wouldn't this annoy CoD fans so much, that if GTA V was released the day after. That would p*** so many fans off. Oh and October is most likely still possible
