Poker Discussion

Recommended Posts

I'm a big fan of poker. I enjoy every kind, but especially No-Limit Texas Hold'em and 7-Card Stud.

It became very popular in the last decade, even becoming an Olympic sport in 2012.

Any of you guys play? Home games, maybe some tournaments or even professionally.

Share your great moments and your bad beats. smile.gif

I do every now and then with some friends. But I'm not really good at it. I mean I know how to play and all but I don't have the patience to sit through a 3 or 4 hour-game and since we only play for small amounts of money I'm not that motivated to win. In fact, I'm often the one who goes out first, and straight to the "Loser-Lounge" where I play some FIFA 12 games against the AI until someone joins me biggrin.gif

Its a very challenging albeit long game to play. I usually play with friends, a £3 buy in with a certain amount of chips. The problem is my friends almost always call the blinds! So it's become more of a luck game than a skill game. I try to raise preflop, only to get groans suicidal.gif

3-4 euro buy-in, 3-4 euro re-buy. Chips of 50.000 value, starting blinds 500/1000. Unscripted chips. White chips are worth 5.000, blacks are worth 1.000 and greens 500. Raise the blinds after 20 minutes of play to 1000/2000, after another 20 minutes 1500/3000 and so on. It's a great way to play.

I think the point of a poker thread should be about the world of poker.

anything that is related is OK.

talk about your own tournaments with friends.

talk about the pros playing in the WSOP or WPT.

you guys know Hellmuth has now won his 12th bracelet?

love him or hate him, Poker Brat is arguably the greatest to play the tournament game; which is different from the cash game circuit.

Yep, poker in general. I can't wait to see who's gonna win the 2012 main event. Probably full of surprises. And yes, Phil's a great player, but his problem is that he's playing with a '90s style and expecting all young people who play today fit into that style, but they don't. They all have different styles and that's why Hellmuth's a bit overmatched sometimes.

Hellmuth is cringe-worthy. It's like watching The Office. Its the way he thinks everybody should play in that 90's style. It's funny watching him rage although it is rather awkward. Poker wouldn't be the same without him.

Cant wait for the world series blush.gif. Its the only poker I really enjoy watching other than High Stakes Poker.

Also, i'm a complete noob when it comes to online casinos and i'm really considering getting started playing poker for real money on one of these sites. I know there are alot of online casino's but is there one somebody might recommend that they have experience using?

I don't recommend playing online poker. It can be rigged or something. It's better playing real life poker for money. If you don't have a dealer, just cut the cards. It's safer that way. Take precautions anyway, it's real easy to be cheated at poker.

We play every Friday and Saturday. 5$ buy in with rebuy's until the 3rd round of blinds. 90-130$ pot. normally around 8-12 people, it can get pretty crazy. My best hand was last week which was quad 9's, I had 9 9 and caught a 9 on the flop and another on the turn. The best hand I've ever managed to hit

thursday and sunday

£5 buy in

about 30 turn up, top 5 get paid, top 10 get league points

Texas Hold-em

love it, been doing ok recently, went down to bad short stack after a bad beat and soon built it up to 30x its size after a few pre-flop shoves and good flops, and one very good river shove straight

best hand was 4 4s.

i got pocket 4s, it was a friendly round of betting, no raises, and after the flop, a 4 came up, the bet went up to 2BBs, I stayed in (obviously) by calling, 4th 4 came on the turn, bet went up to 4BBs, i raised to like 10BBs kept in 2 others, one of them shoved, I called the shove and other guy folded, needless to say I won with the 4 4s. Good when it all goes like that smile.gif

Ahh, poker... About 2-3 years ago, I had went through that stage where I was obsessed with poker. I would play it every night with the family. It certainly is an addicting game. I used to be really good and win all the time, but due to not playing it for so long, I suck now. Anyways, poker should get more appreciation than it does.

I play my fair share of poker. Texas hold'em only though. I recently downloaded poker stars. I heard that on poker stars there are free texas hold'em tournaments you can play, and if you win you can earn real money. I haven't been able to find any though. I saw free tournaments but with no payout. I've also seen tournaments where you pay and there is a decent size payout. But no free tournaments that have a small payout. Anybody use poker stars that could give me an answer?
