Those graphics in the V trailer....

I recently played GTA IV and i was kinda shocked by well...ugly it can look. Well, ugly is a big word but compared to RDR, it's a big difference. Especially during the daytime it can look so smudged out, shadows from trees and just the graphics in general. Then came RDR and oh my what a difference, so much more crisp and clear looking, to this day one amazing looking game. But i guess we gotta take into account that RDR's world is alot more empty with only a few cities and not even that big. While GTA IV's world was crammed with buildings and all that. So can we actually expect graphics like those seen in the V trailer or is that simply not possible, in your opinion?

Some people live in the past. I live in the future.

It is sick if you imagine what technology and thus graphics there will be in say a hundred years from now.

So sick that V looks like a pile or horsepoo. And thus it wont satisfy me. cryani.gif

It's safe to say Rockstar knows how to better optimize things on the RAGE engine and knows how to develop on the consoles; kind of like how Naughty Dog knows how to fully use the PS3's potential.

I thought RDR would look better just because it was released like what 2 years later right?

It's definitely possible, we're 4 years further. And don't forget, trailers always look better, even if it's not pre-rendered on a high-end PC. Just watch GTA IV's first trailer, you'll spot differences. And, actually, do you really feel GTA V's graphics looked THAT much better??? I didn't, it wasn't groundbreaking imo.

True true, but still....the world was much more empty, and thus the graphics could look that much better. A real comparison can be done when we finally have V in our consoles.

I think the graphics on the final GTA V that will ship out are going to be a lot better than that first trailer.

It will have been over a year at least since the first trailer and release, allowing for plenty of time to make things look great. Not to mention the large amount of games coming out now with amazing graphics, Rockstar will have to compete with them.

This exactly. It was much sharper. Check out GTA IV now and you will see how less-sharp it all looks compared to the V trailer.

And yeah...the framerate really wasn't too good in IV, and it was already ALOT better in RDR, much much better. So i think we can expect a much improved framerate too.

I'm going to use an image that was just posted in another thread:

Does that really look like it is next-gen worthy? You can see that boxes and the lamp post looks pixilated, and the walkway pavement is smudged.

I never said anything about next gen though, just that the consoles maybe can't handle what we saw in the V trailer. Don't forget how big this game is going to be , how full of crazy little details it will be.

Yes, but i'm telling you, go watch IV's first trailer, please do. That looks WAY sharper than the game itself.

But this is nothing new bro, it's a trailer!

I recently bought RDR and right before i got it i watched the trailers a lot. Then when i started playing i immediately saw the huge difference. Exactly the same with Max Payne 3, i was shocked @ how much better/smoother the trailer looked, even though it said 'Entirely made from in-game footage'. But it happens all the time!

GTA V trailer is already confirmed to be running in 720p, which means it's the console version

I'm not worried. Every Rockstar title has gotten progressively better with the graphics. RDR was 2 years later, and it showed. Will GTAV blow everyone away? Probably not, but it looks great nonetheless. RDR was very impressive as it was, so if GTAV is just slightly better, i'll be thrilled.

That's just natural progression.

Of course we can expect it to be slightly better, even though GTA is much bigger. Those facial expressions in RDR where, non-existent, really if you ask me.

What are you talking about? All R* trailers are entirely made from in-game gameplay graphics, and the final game always looks better, are you honestly trying to tell me that GTA IV looked worse than it's debut trailer? Hahahaha, that trailer looked like total sh*t mate (i just watched it now) the final build looked way way way better

In graphics terms, the GTA V trailer looks like an improvement over GTA IV graphics. But the more i look at the trailer (not so much these days), the more it looks very similar to GTA IV. But i will still buy GTA V

Damn guys, how is IV ugly? I think it's stood the test of time pretty damn well. I can't vouch for consoles, but on PC it still looks damn good.

I think it be a very silly reason not to buy GTA V imo.

Well certainly not how i remembered it. Of course the final cut was more evolved (like Niko's face, his clothing etc...) but the OVERALL SMOOTHNESS was more so in the trailer. Like how nice the cab looked, the one riding the Algonquin Bridge i mean. Looked nothing like the cabs in the game. I feel the same way about RDR and MP3. The grapics just look a bit better in the trailers.

Okay, i'll be honest i just watched Things Will Be Different after a LONG time ago, and i admit, it was more my memory speaking than anything else. That taxi didn't look all that great tbh.

But i won't take back what i said about RDR and MP3. As far as those are concerned, the theory still applies very much so, which is why i believe GTA V won't be different. icon14.gif

It's nothing special IMO, looks more clear and vibrant than IV though.

It's more of a question of how optimized the game is. GTAIV was their first major game that they used the RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) and if you ask me , for 2008, I think they did a pretty Dam good job. They've had plenty of experience now with red dead, midnight club ( i think it used RAGE) and max Payne 3. So yes, the consoles version will have better graphics and optimization.

However the PC version of gta 4 was the laziest port I've ever experienced! Unless you have a monster pc, (Like me wink.gif ) than you can get it too look beautiful. And I noticed how max

Payne 3 , in terms of optimization for pc, was spectacular !!

Am I the only guy here who seems to find the graphics in actually playing the game, are so much more crystal clear than what we see in the trailers? (console man here) Eg: The IV trailers were awesome, but when I eventually played the game I was completely blown away with how clear and smooth everything was. Same with RDR.

Now, I've seen that vid on YouTube of the comparison between the IV And V trailers and clearly the graphics/physics have been improved. So with my theory, we are in for something truely special with V, in regards to actual gameplay compared to trailer footage - no matter which high-def setting you view the trailer.

First two trailers looked like sh*t clearly still very much in development at the time. The 3rd and 4th looked better when watching the 3rd and 4th trailer and playing IV I didn't see any difference in graphics but with the first 2 I see a huge improvement.

Of course the current consoles can handle the graphics. The graphics aren't that good, it's a big improvement from other GTA's but nothing very spectacular, there are better games.
