Were more likely to see more info at gamescon than info on a release date before the end of the month, and thats still unlikely.

I thought everyone said that GTA V wouldn't be at Gamescon and that the R* newswire > Gamescon. tounge.gif

Well, looks like were running out of time for the game release date this month, I don't know about anyone else but since the screenshots were released iv really lost interest in the game, and I really wasn't impressed by them.

I Think that such a long development period can harm a game, I mean look how far some games have come.

Look at the advancement in the frostbite engine, compare bad company 2 to battlefield 3 on console, the difference is amazing and that's in 2 years

Unless R* really pulls something amazing out of there pocket for V I really don't think it can live up to the hype its created. And by amazing I mean something that hasn't been done, or a technical marval

Bit that's my opinion anyway smile.gif

It's always next month. You addicts should really find something else to do rather than waiting in front of your PC all day with your eyes falling out of your face to see if there's any news on GTA 5. When it comes out, it comes out.

interesting article here ,

and it says the worse !

One thing is clear from the relatively disappointing showing of games at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) video game trade show this year. If Grand Theft Auto V ships before the end of the year, it could be a so-so year for video game sales. If it doesn’t, then it will likely be a horrible year.

The industry and gamers are anxiously awaiting word from developer Rockstar Games about when the latest installment of the Grand Theft Auto series, which always features car combat and over-the-top shooting violence, will ship. If GTA ships, then it could add $700 million to the U.S. retail game industry’s sales, which have been weak at around $16 billion to $18 billion in recent years.

“I am not confident that it will be out this year, and even if it did, we would still likely see a modest decline in console software sales,” said Colin Sebastian, an analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co.

Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, said that the release of GTA V could generate $700 million, but that’s less than 10 percent of the expected overall software sales this year. And the industry is trending down more than that, year to date.

Grand Theft Auto IV sold more than 3.7 milion copies in its first 24 hours and brought in more than $500 million in revenue in its first week in 2008. The game has sold more than 20 million copies to date. It would be great if Rockstar could do this every year, but GTA IV took more than $100 million and four years to develop. If it worked like clockwork, then GTA V should be shipping this year. But Take-Two executives have said they have no intention of annualizing their top franchises because they put such a premium on creativity.

“Given the current momentum of the market, I doubt any major releases, even one of GTA V’s size, would push the physical markets back into the positives,” said Jesse Divnich, an analyst at market researcher EEDAR. “The traditional gaming sector is under an enormous amount of downward pressure at the moment, and it will require a strong catalyst to shift that momentum.”

“I don’t think this is an issue of value but rather an issue of habit,” Divnich said. “Our entertainment consumption is habitual. After playing one great game, we instantly start looking for other games to play. The same goes for music and movies–hence why studios release back-to-back-to-back blockbuster titles in the summer. It is a form of unwritten collaboration.”

Divnich believes that Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have to do something to get consumers back into the stores. That usually means hardware price cuts, but they could also use more creative tactics to accomplish the same thing.

“For instance, they could just make one popular digital game free for a weekend,” Divnich said. “The cost would be relatively small if they could work out an agreement with the developer ahead of time. If you think about it, even a top rated triple-A digital title like Flower, Braid, Limbo, Castle Crashers, and such….these games at this point are doing less than $150,000 a weekend. I am sure any one of the developers would accept, say, a $400,000 payment in order to distribute the game for free for a limited time.”

Unfortunately, game development is more like an art form than an assembly line. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar, announced GTA V in October 2011, and it released a trailer for the game in November. The Rockstar North studio is working on the game, which features mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer in a reimagined Southern California, dubbed Los Santos.

But Take-Two and Rockstar have been mum about a release date. The trailer shows the game takes place in the fictional Los Santos in the state of San Andreas, which resembles modern-day Los Angeles. There’s hope that Rockstar may talk more about GTA V at the industry trade show Gamescom in Germany in August.

Take-Two has been moving to diversify its own product lineup, launching games such as Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne 3 in recent years. But GTA V is its big money-maker, and the video game industry itself is still very dependent on the release of blockbusters like GTA V. Take-Two usually doubles its earnings for the year when it launches a GTA title.

But there is no white knight coming to save the traditional game industry. It’s time to figure out what to do in nontraditional games to pull the industry out of its slump.

so the question is ,

what if even GTA V sales didn't save T2 & R* ?

I don't think Rockstar are the ones to worry. But I might be wrong. Rockstar could probably survive without Take 2, but would Take 2 be able to survive without Rockstar?

Nope. Eventhough TTWO has a strong line up in this fiscal year (Borderlands 2 and Bioshock infinite) they are most likely to sell two millions at maximum and after that they have literally no games.

But what makes me wonder... If Take Two has their most popular games coming out before the next fiscal year, what will they have next year? Like you said. But what makes me kind of depressed is thinking, why would Take Two want a game like GTA 5 to be out this year too with everything else? Wouldn't it make more business sense for them to release it next year. They can get what they make from the other games for this year, and have GTA make up for their sales they will lack next year. To me, that makes sense, but I will like die if that happens, as I still hope for October.

If TakeTwo dies then 2K and Rockstar will die too. Rockstar and 2K are dependent from TakeTwo. These companies are dependent from TakeTwo's stock. That's the reason why a release date or a release window announcement and later a second trailer affect the stock of TakeTwo. xmas.gif

I guess I was just thinking more in the terms since Rockstar is a game company, if Take Two died, Rockstar would probably be bought by another company like dreadful EA.

Hmmm, You know what i JUST now noticed that the 2012'ers forget to mention?

They never thought about Borderlands 2, and how the last game was so successful, it might actually make enough money for Take Two. The last game sold 4.6 million. So it would be assumed that it will make MORE money than the last, since it was critically acclaimed. There is also NBA 2K13, which the last two games sold 9.5 million copies. Now wouldn't that be enough to barley meet their goal?

I honestly think that GTA V will come out sometime in 2013, because to me, that's more realistic than it just dropping w/o that much marketing.

I guess R* has plenty of money that they can buy themselves from TTWO and became a independent company.

Borderlands 2 and NBA 2K13 are games from 2K but Rockstar must make money too. TakeTwo expect these things from Rockstar: 300 million dollar from Max Payne 3 and 150 million dollar from catalogs (GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire etc.) but Rockstar have to make another 550-650 million dollar. With which game? With a high-anticipated game that isn't released yet. What high-anticipated isn't released yet? There is only one game: GTA V. Anyway don't worry I and a few other members already said this 4367435 times before. Reason why that fact needs to be repeated again and again?

"That's just some fancytalk from Wall Street!! WE ARE THE 99%" wink.gif

The pessimistic wing do not want to take in the consideration the _fact_ that TakeTwo has predicted a certain amount of income and with current info are falling WAY short.

I do not pretend to be a pro, but .. as far as I understand it, they would need to issue some kind of profit warning if they know they are lagging that badly behind the predictions.

TakeTwo expected 800 million dollar from 2K which release 5 (!) games this FY and TakeTwo expect ~1.1 billion dollar from Rockstar which have only 1 game right now (Max Payne 3 and the sales are not good for a AAA-title). Do you know why TakeTwo's stock dropped from $12 in February to $9 this month? I know why. The investors of TakeTwo doubt that Rockstar will make ~1.1 billion dollar. They just have Max Payne 3 and a few games from the last 4 years. They expect 450 million dollar from Max Payne 3 + DLCs + all games that were released the last 4 years. That's NOT enough. They need a new big game. They need GTA V. NBA 2K13 and Borderlands 2 are games from 2K so these games CAN NOT help Rockstar. 2K and Rockstar are sister-companies but they can't help each other. We will see GTA V at very latest in March 2013 but I still believe in a release between October and December 2012. If we don't get new info until the end of August then the probability of a release 2012 is low. wink.gif

Damn, the next 8 days will be very interesting. On July 31st we'll all hear to the finance conference of TakeTwo and on August 2nd there is the reveal of the next GameInformer cover. Rockstar said we'll see a few screenshots soon. It'd be plausible to see a few new screenshots on the new GI cover. icon14.gif

It'd not just that there's no release date for GTA V.  For the first time in Rockstar's history, I think, there are no announced release dates for any future title.  When has it ever been that no one could say when the next Rockstar game of any sort is coming out?

There is an only one antecedent,RDR.

Even gta IV was announced with a release date included.

GTA IV was announced on may 9,2006 and had no its first trailer until march 29,2007,325 days later.

What about RDR?

On February 3, 2009, Rockstar Games officially announced the game, On November 25, 2009, Rockstar confirmed the game would be released in April, 2010.A new trailer, "My Name is John Marston," was released a week later, on Tuesday, December 1, which confirmed the game's release date for April 27, 2010.

I mean 295 days from the official announcement to the release date announcement.(RDR)

274 days have passed already from gta v official announcement.

The question is,Why R* did it with RDR?

R* did it because of the fear of a delay induced by the extremely disfunctional work team of rockstar san diego,"an organic disaster of the most epic proportions" R* source.

Some developers from Rockstar Toronto, Rockstar Vancouver, Rockstar Leeds, Rockstar New England, and even the Midnight Club team at San Diego had to be transferred over to work on the game to finish it. A total shame.

http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/RockstarSpo..._themselves.php

The only reasonable explanation to not say the release date is the R* afraid

(after 4 years of development) of an eventual delay induced by the bad work of the development team at Rockstar North.

Do you think that R* is afraid because of the work of Rockstar north developers?

It´s hard to believe watching things like these. Some Rockstar North developers say hello.
