Verdant Meadows Pedestrian
I know this isn't strictly about GTA V, but the "No more LC" thread has made me think about something pretty interesting: GTA V will be the last GTA of this gen, I guess we all agree on that, and it's in Los Santos and its countryside. My thought is, what about the location of future GTAs? Will they ever run out of cities? Which locations do they have left? There is only one city from the last gen that hasn't had a new recreation in this gen: Vice City. Is it possible that they start the next gen with it? And what's more, will they start the new gen with a GTA? I don't think so, because they will finish this with one, and they haven't done a GTA right after another in a long time. How many GTAs will the next gen have, and how many cities do they have left if they decide not to recreate a new city? I have an interesting thought about that: What if they are making GTA V only in Los Angeles because they want to keep San Francisco and Las Vegas in the chamber for the next gen? So, with that said, the next generation has 3 cities spare, so they could make 3 GTAs (assuming they won't do a new city): Vice City, San Fierro and Las Venturas. I guess we all agree that LC and LS won't be on the next gen again. Which locations do you think they will consider for the next gen? How many GTAs do you think the next gen will have? ----------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: I know I'm thinking of the future too much, but it's still interesting to discuss, especially because there's not too much else to say about GTA V. Don't spam or otherwise this topic will be locked.
Catwalk
I'll guess that the next gen will have 2 GTA's. My guess is first will be a revisit to Vice City and next will be both San Fierro and Las Venturas. If they do decide on new locations than I would love to see them use some of the following, Hawaii, Colorado, Texas (Houston or Dallas) or Chicago and I'm still hoping for a GTA with a mainly winter feel. MIKON8ERISBACK
Im predicting that we'll get a DLC and then a Vice City sequel. The DLC itself may even be a Vice City sequel.
Vecceti
I'm sure Rockstar won't hesitate to introduce a new city when the time is right. This generation, and the next one as well gives an opportunity to show our beloved cities in a new and better way so of course Rockstar wants to give them homage. Many other cities have potential though, and I'm sure many more will be virtually visited by gamers sometime.

iCaramelBird
No. I don't want Vice City. Because it's pretty obvious if R* repeat cities and have GTA VI be Vice City and GTA VII being Las Venturas/San Fierro then GTA VII being San Fierro/Las Venturas it'll be pretty obvious it's just shovelware. I hope they make a new city.
XTREME0235
To be honest I don't think cities would be a big problem for them, I think one of the bigger problems they may encounter is ideas for story lines. Surely they would run out of ideas for a story some time, but until that time arrives just be thankful for what we have at the moment and that they have plenty up their sleeves. Dragonjack
I really hope that the GTA series will still be going for a long time New cites, new characters etc etc.. but i got the feeling that the GTA series won't last long for some reason and i just don't know yet. Verdant
I hope they do drop by Vice City, I really liked the environment in that. I have to agree with XTREME0235 on this one. I am hoping for new cities, the question is will they run out of storyline ideas?

wwinterj
Personally I think the DLC for GTA V should focus around Vice City but that may be to much for DLC. Next gen however R* have quite a lot of city's they can base the games on if there using a "new city" I wouldn't mind seeing GTA: London again. GTA can go on for as long as R* wants it to. Adriaan
Given how long it takes for them to develop the GTA games nowadays, they won't run out of cities in our lifetime. For a very distant future generation, when the company is run by the Eloi, the cities will be so different and new to them that the games of past won't matter. Magic_Al
At the rate they're making games now it would be a decade before the predictable cities could be re-imagined. The actual area of a GTA map compared to a real city is small. They could return to Liberty City or Los Santos several times and have a different game map every time, emphasizing different neighborhoods. They could base a game on a smaller real city and the game would still be big. A life-size GTA Rapid City would be over twice as big as GTA San Andreas. HydraulicWaRiOr
Run out of cities? That makes no sense. Settings have infinite possibilities. They could do f*cking Carthage if they wanted to. [supreme]
mulder84
Run out of cities? Hell no. And they don't have to focus on only American cities. Looking at Sleeping Dogs makes me wish they had done a GTA in Hong Kong, with all the triads and such, like a HD PC version of Chinatown Wars in Hong Kong. It'll totally OWN sleeping dogs IMO. Gtaman_92
R* wont run out of citites. Chicago, london, vice city and even a entire state like texas are all good candidates for a gta location because of their diversity in crime and other factors. Epicohnoes!
In my opinion GTA will always take place in America, since that's where this game's biggest audience is. Let's face it, your average American (Lowest common denominator) probably thinks British monarchs still have massive power. Hell, most people don't even understand politics as much as they should, yet vote anyways. GTAs in other countries wouldn't work without being incredibly stereotypical. Anyways, rather than going to a city in their comfort zone, I believe R* should do multiple cities across America next generation. A general "East Coast" GTA could include Boston, Liberty City, Alderney City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Vice City and everything inbetween all in one gigantic map. It wouldn't be very realistic, but it would be the ultimate demonstration of next-gen processing power. It's true though that such a gigantic game would probably take more than 200 million dollars and 5 years to make. The other game next generation would be the same thing, but including Midwest and West-Coast cities like Detroit, Chicago, Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, Phoenix, Denver, and Dallas. It would be truly awesome if you could use one save file and connect the two halves of America to form one colossal supergame. (Kind of like how you could lock on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles to form Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles) Edited July 8, 2012 by Epicohnoes! Tashan
You're saying a whole lot of stuff that IMO is pointless. I believe the formula is wearing out faster than the GTA era or generation (wtever you may name). It's high time to try new things and scrap the bullsh*t AI in an open-world like LC or any future city. Heck!..they will never run out of cities..lol Another lacky are the shooter elements which is something R* still has to work on. It's very unreal and definitely worth revamping the degree of the game's collision detection. It seems pretty low.

packardcaribien
- Mediocre Ideas - Fierro and Venturas together might make a good game, but I wouldn't be particularly excited about it. Driver has done SF pretty well, and Vegas isn't actually very impressive once you leave the strip. Chicago, from a city layout/feeling point of view would be pretty much exactly like LC. I didn't really love LC in IV, too little variety. Chicago might be a good choice after people start to miss Liberty, but not too soon. Newer cities in the sun belt, like Houston, would be somewhat similar to LS, being made up of a small city center with a lot of suburbs, so they might be awhile Anywhere outside of the US just wouldn't work, because the game's satire is based around what those Scots hate about Americans, pretty much. Not that it isn't possible, but I really don't see it happening. - Good Ideas - Washington, D.C. would be plum for the picking, because it has unique city planning and a location ripe with plot oppurtunities (corrupt government). Philadelphia might be interesting since it is not compact like LC but is not suburban like LS. Could be some interesting things there, and it would befit a seventies setting well. I LOVED Vice City, but Miami is only really interesting if it's set in the 80s. Not that a modern setting isn't possible, but it wouldn't have the same magic, IMO. And what, GTA in the US ISN'T incredibly stereotypical? The average American understands that the monarchs have little say, but we can't help but wonder why you keep them around. Not that I disagree, though. Edited July 8, 2012 by packardcaribien
ThisIsHorosho
...its either they'll move to Europe or Asia (Hong Kong, Tokyo anyone?) or they'll make a fictional "invented" city with a fictional name, but higher chances are they'll simply stop making GTA sequels...
