I'm calling Dallas if he opts out (which he probably will)

 

30 mil. in cap space and Dirk has already volunteered to take a pay cut. It's not going to be the same as NY but there's no income tax.

That along with a great coach in Carlisle and good supporting players in Ellis, Dirk, Carter, Marion, Calderon, Harris, Blair... who already did well in the Playoffs sounds like a pretty nice sales pitch.

I've been hearing Chicago since December. Chicago would have to make some moves if they were to sign him to a max-contract through free agency. The Knicks are not interested in a sign-and-trade for Carlos Boozer, meaning the Bulls would have to amnesty (most likely action) or trade him elsewhere and would likely have to part ways with Taj Gibson via trade. Being a Knicks fan, I'm on the belief that Carmelo does not want to play for the Knicks any longer.

 

With that mindset and knowing that other teams like Houston will push hard for him, I think the Knicks should put together a sign-and-trade with Houston. Trade away Carmelo and someone else, and receive Jeremy Lin (not for Linsanity) and Omer Asik's expiring contracts, Chandler Parsons and a first round draft pick. Houston hasn't traded away draft picks and I think they would be willing to part with each of those pieces if it meant landing Carmelo Anthony. As a fan, I want the team to get something for him if he really does want out and I'd be happier with him playing in the Western Conference, rather than the East.

For fans of rival teams, it's not as nice as him retiring, but it's the lesser of two evils. I had heard earlier today that he was going to opt out and take even less money to remain with the team, giving them a few million dollars more to play with.

I don't think Houston is a good fit - Carmelo, Harden & Dwight together???? Not enough balls to go around, plus that team is lousy on defense. Does Carmelo want to go through the gauntlet of the western conference again?

Hey, I'll be one of them. As a LeBron and Thunder fan, I think it's best for LeBron to tread in the eastern conference (like I said a page or two back) if he wants to win a ring in a year or two. Western Conference has a lot of young and old teams to reckon with, to the point to were I'd say I'd almost want a nba playoff with just west teams... and if any haters arrive, I've already heard the noise 'if LeBron is so great why doesn't he go dominate the west?'... and to answer simply, if he wants rings now he'd be stupid to go to the west.

 

I don't have a team I specifically would want LeBron to go to (besides Thunder), so just like when he left Cleveland, this'll be another circus for me. If I had to predict a few teams; LA Clippers/Lakers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks or ultimately signs new contract to stay in South Beach.

I think this is the likeliest outcome. This team is stacked, relatively young, and has been to the Finals four straight times; exactly where is he gonna go to top that? I know he opted out, but isn't there a chance that's a tactical move on his part to negotiate for either more money, or pressure to get more talent on the team? I just don't see him walking away from what clearly could be the dominant team in a weak conference for at least another five years.

I wouldn't say that the Heat are young. They got some pretty old dudes, fossils even, on that squad:

 

Ray Allen - 38

Rashard Lewis - 34

Birdman (Chris Andersen) - 35

Udonis Haslem - 34

Shane Battier - 35

James Jones - 33

 

Even Dwyane Wade at 32 began his decline. Miami does have a number young guys, you're right about that, but two of them (Oden and Beasley) are recent draft busts.

True, but I'd contend that James and Bosh still have plenty of time, and there's a wealth of opportunity to build a team around them and the current role players under 30 (Cole, Chalmers, Douglas). The Heat would definitely seem to be in a good position to just keep plugging in whoever they like from the free agent market. I can't think of any place in the East that would be more enticing from any possible angle, and the West is just filled to the brim with competition. The Heat seem to make the most sense for him.

Lebron opting out is a message to Pat Riley and Mickey Aaronson to strengthen the supporting cast. It's a strategy move.

 

Knicks are about to trade Felton & Chandler to the Mavs for Dalembert, Calderon, Larkin and two first round picks.

 

Chris Broussard says Carmelo will visit Dallas, Houston & Chicago once free agency begins.

Hearing this morning the Cavs are looking for suitors at 4 and 12, possibly sending the first pick to Orlando for those picks, then looking to move one or both of those picks for a veteran. As a Sixers fan, holding onto some hope Wiggins drops to us. Doubt it happens, but the Magic like Exum a lot. Don't think they're gonna trade up to one for him though, but if they think Philly takes him at 3 and they don't like Embiid...

 

I know I know, a lot needs to happen for this to come true. I can hope for another 10 hours

The cavs didn't flop this year, they had a 1.7% chance of getting the number one pick. If they can trade down and get who they want, why wouldn't they?

 

And if I'm Sixers, I'd rather Exum over MCW. Magic can move Oladipo to the 2 (his natural position) if they draft Exum.
