As a celtic fan I'm in shock. Really bummed to see IT go but in the long run the celtics still won this trade. Lebron will most likely leave all the drama, I don't really see IT resigning with the cavs all besides the money they could offer him but I don't really see them offering IT the super max that he wants. Plus d rose will most likely be gone as well. So only pros the cavs got was crowder which will come in handy for this coming season and that Brooklyn pick. Cavs will definitely be in re build mode.

Kyrie to the Knicks for Isiah/package. It will be fun seeing Thomas and LeBron playing together and to see if Kyrie can fill the void. They basically just swap really good scorers.

Plays D? Are you talking about Kyrie... playing D? All players play some sort of defensive, but let's not get carried away and act like Kyrie is a great defender.

 

Plus, does this move really put the Celtics above the Cavs in the East? No. Not as long as LeBron is still there.

Yet the prospect of Isaiah Thomas covering most PGs with effect was virtual non issue. Talking heads here were speaking of dealing Thomas due to defensive concerns, so it seems that the Celtics were simply waiting for worthwhile compensation to move him.

 

I've made no claim of this addition shaking up the hierarchy of the East yet...

Heres a brief synopsis of why the Cetics are fine with the trade from SBNation.com. Hell, both teams are. The Cavs are set up well in case Lebron bolts if that pick gained pans out.

 

 

Thomas understandably wanted the Celtics to back up the Brinks trucks, considering he starred on a paltry (by NBA standards) $6.3 million salary next year. Given Thomas’ age (he’ll be 29 next summer) and the Celtics’ desires to fight on multiple fronts, a lucrative new deal for Thomas offered a degree of uncertainty.

(We’ll leave it at that, because reasonable people can disagree about whether Thomas would have aged well with Boston. Tim Cato explained why not. Tom Ziller argued the opposite).

But with this trade, Boston transferred that dilemma onto the Cavaliers and received a younger and (arguably) better player with more cost control and upside. Irving is three years Thomas’ junior while under contract for one more season, prying Boston’s present window open one more year — especially important given LeBron’s impending free agency.

The cost is heavy: Brooklyn’s unprotected first-rounder, plus an excellent rotation player in Jae Crowder. But the Celtics offset the loss of Crowder by acquiring Marcus Morris from Detroit, not to mention Gordon Hayward in free agency. The Nets’ pick is a tremendous asset, but with Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and another high lottery pick coming from either the Lakers in 2018 (if they finish between picks No. 2 and 5) or the Kings in 2019 (essentially top 1 protected), the Celtics’ future track is still robust.

Ultimately, Boston brought in two All-Stars this summer, opened their short-term window for an extra season to pounce if LeBron bolts Cleveland, and kept their long-term future bright. Mission accomplished on all fronts.

Honestly I'd say the cavs have gotten better, Isaiah Thomas is more or less the same player as Kyrie just not as flashy, and Jae Crowder is a good player who can defend and hit corner threes. Plus Ante Zizic is a very young player who could turn out to be a good backup for Tristan. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Cavs swept through the playoffs this year all the way to the finals like they almost did last year.

"truly out of options" but Sam Presti has been having a solid off-season, arguably the best out of any team, while your lover boy uses alternate accounts to defend himself.

 

OKC adds two all-stars, by trading away decent players to get them. I wouldn't put them over the top the Warriors but I say the chances are significantly higher if the players mesh together real well.
