Algonquin Assassin
Keep in mind this isn't really a thread about gore as such in general gameplay. Anyway I'd have to say this generation R* have really turned things up a notch in terms of shock value. Manhunt however still holds the card for last generation. Here's a break down of each game so far this gen. GTA IV: I was shocked when Niko executed Vlad. I thought to myself "wow". Darko was another one and of course Eddie Low. RDR: I felt R* took things further yet again. Seth playing around with dead corpses for the first time made me cringe . LA Noire: This game was particularly disturbing especially during the Homicide and Arson cases. MP3: I feel this is the most advanced. When Max cut into Milo's neck with the machete I said "wtf?" as you could see he cut his head off and also the level of detail on Becker's body after the explosion was incredibly gorey I thought. Same for the New Jersey flash back when the bum blows himself up and seeing the aftermath . So with that being said what can we expect from GTA V that'll shock us? I think one thing that would do it for me is a torture scene similar to Scarface. To me it seems R* keep raising the bar higher with each game and the themes they show. Bantri
Who knows haha! But it's sad that stuff like that actually goes on in real life. I hope they still keep some sense of that, insane style of a few characters, and shocking moments, but I don't want the game to be too full of them. Chukkles
I know it might be re-treading the same water, but I really want another serial killer to show up. Eddie Low was just one of the best chatacters ever. Maybe have one that isn't so much bat sh*t crazy, but very methodical and proffesional. Could have him remove an article of clothining or some other keep sake from his victims and then we later stumble into his house were he keeps all these trinkets. baguvix_wanrltw
Damn I'm all for that scarface tub scene. Always wanted to participate in that ... or the Pulp Fiction rape scene. It's LA after all... But to be honest I didn't find any of those things you mentioned really shocking. Once you've seen people cut each other's heads off (while still alive and screaming for their mothers) in real life I guess not much can really shock you. Real life is where the real ultra-violence happens, not video games. Edited July 5, 2012 by baguvix_wanrltw

baguvix_wanrltw
Yeah the bath tub scene with the chainsaw in Scarface, and the scene in Pulp Fiction where Zed and Maynard tried to rape Butch and Marsellus Wallace in the cellar after the car crash, the scene with the gimp, you know. TheD94
Executing random enemies like in Scarface game, letting them pray for a second and blast their heads off with a sawed off shotgun, maybe? Would be nice Or dismembering people with katana/knife/chainsaw or strong firearms, like in scarface game? Hell yea, I can already tell you people that I would spend hours on going crazy with a katana I also think that R* will do the almost same brutality as in Scarface game, only in HD and more realistic looking. And of course better animations.
Chukkles
Yeah the bath tub scene with the chainsaw in Scarface, and the scene in Pulp Fiction where Zed and the other guy ("the spider") tried to rape Butch and Marsellus Wallace in the cellar after the car crash, the scene with the gimp, you know. I got you now, for some reason I always forget about that scene.

018361
I think we will see more gore involved in those things. I Think we will see stuff like cutting up peoples bodies with chainsaws, hatchets, machetes, swords, and other things like maybe a really bad car accident. I would be shocked if they did something like a hacked up nude body, putting bodies into wood chippers, furnaces, ect. Although it would shock me if they actually did it i would still be alright with it. Heck i would even cut off a 2 year old kids head in front of his parents or cut of the parents head in front of the 2 year old and leave him/them alive ( FYI i mean in a game, not real life ). wwinterj
I don't think anything this generation from R* has surpassed Manhunt in terms of gore or shock value. I really hope R* grow a new set of balls and do a Manhunt 3 at some point.

baguvix_wanrltw
Since we're talking movies, how about Sin Nombre? It's related to gangs that were founded in LA, and one of the scenes was a chopped up "chavala" from an enemy gang being fed to dogs. Damn good movie btw, just not something you'd want to show to your mom.
sonnyBlack
Perhaps a chainsaw beheading? Something like that could be depicted in a cutscene where our character meets with a drug cartel, and they have the protagonist witness the execution as a warning not to screw them over. It'd similar to that scene in Scarface where Sosa has Tony witness his acquaintance get hanged from a helicopter for being an informant, except it'd be messier. LoveMediaExecutive
It's hard to say what we really can expect from GTA V in terms of brutality as we don't quite know what the game will truly be about. For instance, if the game has some major cartel involvement, Rockstar will probably up the brutality significantly to reflect what is currently going on with the Mexican drug cartels (beheadings, torture, mutilations, etc. ). If poverty and greed are huge central themes for the story, we would probably see some harsh stuff revolving around our class system and the economy that is unsettling in a different way, not savagery in a gory way but how the characters treat each other and how far they take their greed. sublimelabs
If Rockstar includes just one Manhunt execution in GTA V, I think we'd be set on shock content. They stepped their game up with realistic, cringe-worthy shooting damage. Seeing Max Payne murder a dude with a machete was overkill. Rockstar really likes to throw a lot at us -- at once. Just before the machete murder? Even for Marcelo, that's pretty f*cked up. Seems like we can expect shocking moments regarding characters' fates in GTA V. That much is a given at this point. Max Payne 3 major spoiler: Fabiana's death made me swear. A lot. I couldn't blink. We'll just have to wait for the second trailer to get a good feel on the tone of the game. I've also noticed that their games are starting to have more violence/gore/sexuality. I'm sure that gta v will have a lot more gore like in MP3 but not as much as in Man Hunt 2 because that game was banned in 3/4 countries and was confiscated in one and I'm sure R* don't want that to happen with GTA V. As for nudity/sexuality I believe that we will see a lot more than we did with Niko, maybe around the lines of TBoGT(where the have sex with their clothes on for those who didn't play it) and maybe all we will see are a few boobs in a couple of cutscenes(don't hold your breath) and a few more guys naked(no homo), just don't expect to see girls fully naked or more detailed sex scenes cause they will get sued big time and I'm sure they have learnt from their hot coffee incident(for those who don't know its the sex mini game on GTA SA for pc which was created by a dutch modder). 73duster
I agree with the OP for the most part, except on 2 things. 1- Max Payne has ALWAYS had an extremely dark tone. Yes, the machete scene was a notch higher than usual for Max Payne, but i felt that it was within the Max Payne universe. 2- GTA has always tilted towards the humorous side of violence. I would be surprised if they went towards the same level of gore as RDR or MP3. I think the time is right for citizens going bezerk while being high on BATH SALTS. t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m
The arson desk in L.A. Noire made me cringe. Especially the part where the carbonized body just randomly collapses into pieces. I think there is potential for this in GTA V. I think that the gunshot wounds from RDR would look good in V. I also think that Rockstar should add some form of minor gore, such as a large gash texture or tears in the skin when you hit someone. The euphoria made running people over fun, but this would add to the realism factor considering bodies shouldn't just flop around and bounce with no visible damage. NotoriousKiller
Ok so I was thinking and I think there's many small things that could make this gruesome: - Lots of animations when you start gunning down people such as: * People falling on each other and tripping * People crying and screaming * People crawling away trying to live leaving a stream of blood * People who are near death and are begging you to kill them, sometimes you can perform an execution type animation where you put the gun to their heads * People pulling their wounded friends to safety - When you run over lots of people you can hear people cry and scream And anything else like this Edited July 5, 2012 by NotoriousKiller

Well actually in GTA IV people got bruses if you shot them in sertain areas over and over such as th legs or arms but I get what your saying. I wouldn't mind seeing more of that especially after fights like if you punch someone in the face they should bleed from the mouth or nose and same goes for when you use a knife. ACR
I remember not that far ago some member sent me video of mexican cartel execution with chainsaw, that cartel member just beheaded victim like it was nothing, his head was hanging beside other victim who was about to be executed with knife, other cartel soldier was just slicing other victim with knife until he cut his head off, it was so f*cking brutal, but the most horrified part was that those executioners were so calm and cold blooded, they just didn't give a f*ck and they were even make fun of those victims. I would be very satisfied with that kind of brutality in GTAV.
baguvix_wanrltw
I really doubt they'd be able to show that in a "normal" video game... maybe the cam could move away when the cutting starts, or fade to black or something like that. But yeah, that sh*t does happen in real life. And it should definitely be treated as a war crime; killing someone with a shot to the head? Brutal, yeah, but it's quick. Cutting some guys head off while he's still breathing? That's just f*cked up.
