GTA VC does not start at all on Windows 7

Hi, I have installed GTA Vice City on my pc, but when I try to execute it it suddenly closes after a couple of seconds.

No error is displayed, no "undhandled exception" message, no black screen, no icon on the start bar displays... absolutely nothing. The gta-vc.exe process starts (I can see it by the Task Manager) but it closes without any reason.

My specs are the followings:

* Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

* 4 GB ram

* graphic card with 2 GB of vram

* 3.2 GHz quad core processor

* no mods installed for now

I have tryed a lot of things but no one seems to work:

1)reinstalling the game

2)executing gta-vc.exe in compatibility mode (Vista, XP, Me, 98... none works)

3)installing 1.1 patch

4)updating every single driver

5)deleting "user files" folder in Documents

6)formatting and re-installing the operative system, twice

None of those solutions worked for me.

Then i set up a virtual machine (VMware and Microsoft Windows XP Mode). The game starts but it appears an error saiyng more or less "you do not have enough video memory to play GTA:VC" (sorry I don't know what's the exact error, English is not my native language).

I have also installed GTA VC on two other pcs, both with Windows 7, both with specs lower than mines: on both, the game runs smoothly. And that really pi**es me off.

Please help me, you're my last hope to get the game working!

PS: please forgive me for my bad English, as I said it's not my native language smile.gif

More specifically, what graphics card do you have and what graphics cards do the two other PC's you tried it on have?

5)deleting "user files" folder in Documents

I do believe that this is something you should work harder on. I've done some searching, and apparently such a problem can be fixed by deleting the gta_vc.set file located in the User Files folder. Have you tried removing THAT one?

I have never tried running VC on windows 7.... but this may do something.....

http://www.dedoimedo.com/games/gta-vice-city-windows-7.html

DO NOT SET ANY COMPATIBILITY MODE...

Delete your .set file.

Under the VC.exe file right click-- under properties select the compatiblity tab and click the "disable visual themes" checkbox....

See if that does anything....

Sorry for waiting, I forgot to enable email notifications of replies... confused.gif

My PC has a GT220 series card; one of the others PCs has an ATI Radeon HD 3200 card, and the last one has a NVIDIA card but idk which model.

The User Files folder is created at every VC startup, but it's empty, so there's no gta_vc.set file. Yes, I have set Windows to show me hidden files and system files, and I tried also to view the folder contend via command prompt: it's empty, sure at 100%.

I also tried to disable visual themes, selecting a non-Aero Windows theme and checking "disable visual themes" under the compatibility tab.

Any other ideas? Oh, I have also tried to start San Andreas and GTA III, same results...

Hmm. Try running the game in Administrator mode. If that doesn't work, try installing the game on a different hard drive.

Does your video card support 640x480 resolution??

If not then your game won't get past the check for this when it starts--- a work around for this was to put a gta_vc.set file where the resolution was raised to something your PC can support---

If not... check this post. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...st&p=1059738926

I hosted 2 of these files with the video resolutions changed from the minimum to get past this check..

Put the file in your user files folder for the game... (where ever that is for windows 7)--

The above has worked for other people (if that is the problem).

HTH...
