Glad to see that you are watching for my modification, Amadeo, after all this time, and that you are still playing the old version of the mod. I also like it, this is also a lot of good memories for me. (By the way, it is very upset that this mod, like and other my mods, were posted in view of "game + mod", as some kind of "pirate game pack" on different torrent sites, and Russian users download these versions instead of normal modification from official source). The new mod will be developed in much more professional ways, but and system requirements will be much higher. Only because of textures now are more heavy.

Did you play on Mac via virtual machine with Windows with GTA: San Andreas? Just there is official Mac port of GTA: San Andreas and it is interesting, how native Mac version looks.

Because I don't have Mac (but I though for a long time ago about Mac versions of my mods, and it was always interesting for me, how Mac version of GTA SA looks - I mean the structure of files, but I don't have a time for installing Mac OS X via virtual machine and test all these). If structure of files is the same as in Windows version, and formats are the same, you can try to install the mod and then write me.

Well, I have very distracted from the theme. Thanks for the comment! Thanks also to Kristian and all who support me.

Hello, again, Flame!

Unfortunately, I see the similar picture too. People download "pirate versions" with your modification, get bad impressions and uninstall it, thinking that it is trouble of mod, not of Russian "packers".

Well, I have been testing both versions - native port and virtual machine. I will tell about all of this in details.

Firstly, about a native port. I didn't install the last version 1.03 from Mac App Store because it doesn't already work according reviews. So, I downloaded version 1.01 from Rutracker and it worked quite good for Mac. But I noticed there is not balance between SFX and radio. For example, when you are in mission, speech of heroes in a car works but radio is unavailable. You can change stations but you won't listen anything (anyway, in Windows versions I could hear radio better, volume was higher). I guess, it's bug for Mac port. Maybe it is fixed in newer versions (1.02 or 1.03) but I can't test it.

Secondly, about a virtual machine with Windows 7. I have installed license version and HRT Pack 1.3 because haven't found HRT for Mac (it is one of the reasons why I use virtual machine). So I downloaded all of this for Windows version, ran this mod by virtual machine, made highest presets and it's working and looking incredible for Mac. I didn't expect and wait something like that. There are not lags, freezes or falling down FPS with your textures on MacBook! And there is not bug of sound that I notified above. Sometimes I have problems of draw distance but I had it on my Windows PC before. So, I think, it is something about my presets. By the way, if you start San Andreas on MacBook, you can have some troubles with mouse - scroll up works bad, but scroll down is normal.

Finally, I know that virtual machine uses only half resources, so I'm planning to test this mod in Windows as second system also and write my results later. I can't install Windows 7, so I will be testing it on Windows 10.

PS I was trying to make donation yesterday through Yandex Money and couldn't do this. I have no idea why. If it doesn't work today, I do it by PayPal.

Unfortunately, but these are their problems. I want to ask another question about native Mac version. But I'd better write you to PM, not to make off-top here. Thanks for detail description. I don't know, why there are some problems with Yandex.Money, you really have try to make this with PayPal, if what - see details on the Donate page on the site.

And now I have very IMPORTANT questions for all the users.

As we know, GTA SA, maybe, works the best only on Windows XP. On newer versions of Windows we must do little tricks to make it work better - copy some files to Windows folder, install DirectX files, start the game in compatibility with Windows XP mode. All these were helpful for me earlier, and my game used to work well.

But now (maybe after Windows re-installing, I don't know) I have problems with the game on Windows 7. It bothers me test the mod.

I run game in compatibility mode, like earlier, but when I several times in sequence minimize the game, I see or this artifact -

0_235d16_8ce86a73_M.jpg

or game just crashes with error window.

I don't know, how to be with this, in the Web I see only banal advices. Who encountered with such things, and how to decide it? This is not connected with the mod, because the same situation with clean game.

I remember that when I played the game for the first time, two years in a row, multiple times. It is a general bug of the game that happens to appear when you minimize it only when you are inside interiors or leaving the game ON in TAB while doing other things into your PC. Loading a save game, starting a new save game, it wouldn't fix the problem. The only way is to quit and start again.

However, I remember that pausing the game (ESC) the bug will not active although the game sometimes is still ON even if is in Pause Menu mode. You could try to set the resolution with the one of your desktop. If is 1440x900 and in your game is less, that could be one of the cause.

Hello, BLITZ, thanks for the answer. I don't remember such bug earlier, maybe I was lucky. Interesting how to avoid it. Resolution in the game is the same as desktop.

I had this weird bug as well but I had an AMD (ATI) card that was sh*t. Nowadays I can't even Alt-Tab out of SA for some reason (some script mod or my Windows version is probably the cause).

I disappointed in AMD (ATI) video cards too, and now I have nVidia card. But I faced with this bug only now, or I forgot something.

So, it seems that a lot of players play with this bug and solution is still not found?

Interesting, if this bug is connected with minimizing, as a decision can be blocking of minimizing of the game, but, of course, this is bad decision.

It's a minor bug from what I remember. It mostly occurs when you alt-tab for prolonged periods of time. If you resume the game quickly enough it probably won't happen.

I think there are some issues on Windows 10 regarding minimization. I'm not sure if there is a fix for it (I get a black screen).

I did happen to have ATI back then and never NVIDIA. What ET said. Prolonged periods of time with alt-tab, the bug will show up. Try out Windows button from the keyboard.

I have never seem this bug before, you should make a post about it in the SilentPatch thread, maybe it can be fixed.

It really fixed in SilentPatch and this is very good. I've tried now and game didn't crash in this situation.

lol not even close. These are Greek letters, namely sigma and gamma. It would be more appropriate to call me SG although I ended up with this name sort of by accident. I didn't even think two letter names were allowed (they weren't initially). I don't identify with this name even though I ascribe a strong meaning to these letters.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this mod. I hope it gets done at some point next year.

Well, I have been testing SilentPatch and you know something? Before I had had some troubles, like crashes of the game, flicker of textures or similar virtual artifacts and problems with scroll wheel or mouse locks up when exiting the menu. But now all of this is fixed.

For example, I was trying to play on MacBook without this patch and making switches between top-level windows, I guess ten times and finally I got a freeze. I couldn't do anything except turn off a virtual machine. So I did it, installed SilentPatch and tested it again. After that I noticed font became smaller and it's better as for me, scroll wheel is easier because now I can change weapons free, I mean without strange problems with locking scroll up on MacBook in this game and, finally, there are not bugs of textures or crashes.

Sum all, I will be keeping this patch in the game.

Amadeo1234, thanks for the reply and testing with my HRT Pack. I'm also glad that Silent fixed a lot of problems of the original game. Yes, it definitely must be in the standard pack of modification (and thanks to Silent for the permission to use), because people must be able to play the game right away after installation without any problems.

How does the game perform with your textures? I installed another mod like this recently and the game's performance is affected when the game streams the next area (while you move around). I get dips in frame rate as low as 25 FPS for a second or two but there are a bunch of 2K textures in there so I don't know what's going on. Clearly the game wasn't made with such high quality textures in mind (gta3.img is over 3.4 GB in size).

iirc the game doesn't like IMG files above 2GB unless you use the FLA.

Dude. If I didn't have FLA\OLA\whatever the f*ck it's called installed already frame rate drops would be the least of my problems. With files that huge the stock game would barely load anything at all.

The game is f*cked or something and it has nothing to do with limits. It might be the increased draw distance in 2DFX but then again, the drops aren't consistent. They seem to happen during streaming only. Otherwise the game is perfectly stable (or it seems to be, there might still be some frame pacing issues). This is a problem with III era GTA games in general. III and VC are pretty egregious too and it has nothing to do with mods or the lack thereof. You lose 3-4 frames during streaming sometimes with the 30 FPS cap. With no frame limiter the drops are even more severe.

I mean I can't be the only one who notices these things. I almost always monitor my gameplay with Fraps.

Edit: I did a quick Fraps test. I might do one where I measure frame time as well soon.

Edit 2: I browsed through some NFS textures (from the first Underground game) and I noticed something really weird. Two of the textures were exactly the same as ones from GTA VC\SA, namely a window texture and a rooftop texture. Does anyone know what texture resources R* used in the process of making GTA? It seems that their own artists didn't do all the work.

I did not notice some FPS falling between loading of sections, but I can say nothing specifically about this, because in my game always are installed only one or two sections for the last time, not all the remade textures. So I hope that in some ways it can be possible to avoid such "lags" between loading of sections. I use Open Limit Adjuster.

My textures are not included to gta3.img, I use Mod Loader. Later all the textures will be packed into IMG file (files) that will be used through the Mod Loader (because if the textures are located just in the folder - if there a lot of textures - delays in loading of new textures can be noticeable). If it is not possible to use one IMG file, it will be divided to the few ones.

Stock SA (without FLA/modloader) handles IMGs up to 4GB just fine though. This 2GB size cap seems to be caused by broken IMG editors probably?

Use IMG Factory. That tool is very good.

BTW, does using separate IMGs or Modloader improve streaming\loading? It doesn't seem that it should.

You might save some time on file seeking - the difference is probably negligible but worth a try.

EDIT:

Even 8GB IMG works fine with modloader/FLA (so >4GB IMG handling is fixed).

Your game seems to be fine to me except a few horrible non-mipmapped textures (that grassy ground texture). Not using mipmaps could be the cause for that since it has to load the texture in full resolution all the time. A thing I also noticed for me is using skygfx with dualpass rendering for grass + disabled grass backfaceculling slows down the game significantly when grass is close to the camera.

HRT 1.4 is a passionate retexturing project. It is unique in the fact that seldom such great care is taken into every single texture. I know Flame has a strong vision that he follows to the very end. And that is why I believe HRT is going to be a huge success. I wish you good luck in the wake of voting.
