No I’m pretty sure it’ll be fine here. I’m in the US they tried it before and look what happened to Jack Thompson, dis-barred for the loon he was. Not only that quite a few things go here.

Well, the OFLC threatened to ban Grand Theft Auto IV in Australia unless if it was 'toned down' (that is having no R18 rating for video games for you) to their standards of an MA15+ rating - but in reality, I don't think Rockstar will have any trouble with getting Grand Theft Auto V sold in Australia if they don't go overboard with the gore or sexual themes (the main things that were toned down in the Australian version of Grand Theft Auto IV) in the game.

 

For this reason, I can predict that the Australian release of Grand Theft Auto V will be 'toned down' compared to its international counterparts, unfortunately.

Yeah I heard Australia’s bad about game censorship, I think it was Left 4 Dead 2 you guys down under missed out on, or maybe it was something else, but I rember there was some big name game being banned down there not to long ago.

 

Glad it isn't that bad here, there was of course the hoopla over GTA a few years back, and you hear the occasional "games cause violence" BS but besides that it's all fine and dandy for the most part.

Nah for Australia we should be alright.

We haven't had any GTA game banned here.

 

We've had some games that apparently were "too gory" like Mortal Kombat. Rockstar Games will do there best to not get the game banned.

The sex being cut wouldn't worry me in the slightest - in fact, I couldn't care less about seeing any sex in Grand Theft Auto V. The thing that concerns me more is the fact that a lot of the detail (i.e; blood and gore) will no doubt be cut from the Australian release of Grand Theft Auto V so it meets our current classification standards for video games.

nope.. the games here have ratings likes M18.. gta would probably be M18.. most FPS here though are only 15+

V will be submitted under whatever laws and regulations a country has, for example in Australia they will submit game for review, if it fails they will cut content until it fits into the MA15+ rating.

 

Rockstar are not stupid and will not allow their games to get banned where it is easily avoided.

Besides, Max Payne 3 is more violent and graphic than GTA V will ever be.

PS3 is not region locked so a game from anywhere will run on the PS3, Xbox however you must purchase PAL games, which are also sold in the UK and there are UK retailers that specify in selling games to Australia, so yes it is possible and easy to do.

 

However fines of up to $200 000 apply.

So if I go to the US, get the 'Brüno' version and bring it back to Australia and I go thru customs and some security Robocop detects it, then I will have to (a) pay a massive fine or

These developers don't just write their products at random and just hope they will pass. There's too much money at stake for that.

 

Rockstar know how to control the content of the game so that it will pass censorship in most territories. And if they have any doubts about any given element, they can open a dialogue with the censors.

 

Their aim is to write a game that will sell in as many territories as possible while having as few variants as possible. They generally know what they are doing. Of course, there is no accounting for the odd nation state that likes to 'nanny' it's citizens more than most.

They'll probably cut it for Germany. In Max Payne 3, for example, you couldn't injure or shoot civilians, which was alright for Max Payne, because there were hardly any civilians there anyway.

As for GTA V, I'll probably import the UK version, if they cut the german one.
