t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/...fers-77-800-DLC "Curiosity, gameplay-wise, is based on a single black cube placed in the middle of a bare room. Players will be asked to chip away at the cube, fracturing it. Fractures inflicted by other players will appear in tandem with those you inflict, with everyone working together to reveal the grand mystery at the heart of the cube. Here's the catch: only the player who lands the last fracture before the cube cracks open will get to see what's inside. The number of fractures required to reach this point is known only to 22Cans, but is apparently huge. To up your chances of being the one to see the contents of the cube, you'll be able to purchase an iron chisel 10 times stronger than your normal one for 90 cents (59 pence) or a diamond chisel 100,000 times stronger than said basic chisel for the princely sum of $77,838 (£50,000). While iron chisels will be readily available, only one diamond chisel will be up for sale. "It's an insane amount of money," says Molyneux. The aim of the diamond chisel is experimental: Can curiosity alone drive one player or a syndicate to spend that much money? "This is not a money-making exercise; it is a test about the psychology of monetization," he added." So, do you think anybody will actually buy it? And any guesses as to what is inside the box? Firefly8000
Well if it costs that much surely the contents will be worth more? How many people are playing this anyway? If it's a lot of people chipping away at the same time what are the chances of you landing the final blow? Only someone with money to waste would even consider spending that much money on a game. HbKYolrr
I heard trailer #2 is inside. You shouldn't be saying stuff like that here. The little kids here will get their parents in alot of debt. Edited June 9, 2012 by Senax
OchyGTA
It'll be some bullcrap stunt by Molyneux to make a quick buck. Someone will buy the £50,000 DLC and the content will be a message about being too materialistic or some sh*t. Either that or £50,000.01.
OysterBarron
So its got a cube and a pickaxe! im in.
papanesta
Surely the diamond chisel doesn't actually increase the chances of seeing what's inside, only lowers the number of people required to fracture the cube?

DeeperRed
Peter Monelyux is batsh*t insane. In a good and bad way. more like he spews batsh*t. This idea is good, but he's had many good ideas over the time that he failed to meet. If your going to do this right it really needs to be real time so your chippinging away with everyone else which if popular would be thousands. If its just text based or just a sh*tty little graphic then it will be pretty crappy. I just hope he actual gets a team together that can have the ability to produce his dreams. Fables while very good, lacked the richness he descried.

DeeperRed
it will be out on PC and phones in 6 weeks apparently. I hope they really get it right. Could be quite interesting distraction even if you don't want to chip just having a sphere slowly chipping down to something (hopefully) awesome. OysterBarron
well if it does come on phones then will be a nice little time killer by the sounds of it.
DeeperRed
Indeed, kind of thing id have a check off every few days and see some decent changes. If where all choosing spots the sphere itself, regardless of the content, could produce a really nice image at stages with all those different sizes. Original Light
Paying $77,838 for something that's made out of pixels, inside a box/cube? Yeah right. Someone should let me know what's in it, when some fool with alot of money to blow off buys it. But here's the thing, will you win a physical reward, or is it just an in-game prize (when you open the box)? Wouldn't it be funny if the prize was getting all your money back? If hes got the indispensable income theres nothing wrong with with wanting a bigger brush to sculpt with also its just supporting a neat idea. Also I hope the prize is the all the profit, that would great for the winner. Especially if he was using the standard free pickaxe.

Exkabewbikadid
Someone's been watching Kubrick's 2001 a bit too much, me thinks. I bet it gets hacked too, sh*tty pun intended.

Knife
I kinda think that if someone does buy, they'll be refunded at the end. If it's not about money making then why not refund at the end? But obviously it's still quite a risk because we can't know that's what they plan to do.
Crokey
What would be funny, is that as this is being set up as a social human experiment, well to prove what we humans can do, someone should hack his bank account and take the $77,800 (£50,000) and use that to buy the diamond chisel. No money is lost the prize is revealed, experiment over.
Pat
I still fail to see what prevents someone from datamining the program as soon as it's released to find out what's in the box. It's an interesting concept, but with modern technology, there's really no way to pull it off the way he intends to.
Fireman
I started saving since today to get that DLC. Man a diamond pickaxe, I've always wanted that.
OysterBarron
I would imagine the contents of the box would be stored online and not within the game files itself, allthough this could still be open to hacking im sure it would be alot harder to find out the secret. I am swaying to the idea that the prize will not be in the sphere itself but revealed once its done. That way no one can really get there hands on it Also I don't see why everyone is being quite cynical towards this idea. If you don't like it or it doesn't interest you then fine but why would you want to be hacked ? We need to support these ideas regardless of if we agree with them or not because it promotes others to think outside the box. Stig
I'd laugh if the guy who buys the DLC (Whom we're all making fun of) gets a 150,000$ grand prize for chipping it away
