But Ubisoft overhyped the game like hell. They never said the game was GTA but they overhyped it in a different manner. Remember the "2 months is enough to visit LS" poster? Yes the gamers have to take the blame for joining the hype train but Ubisoft should also take some of the blame.

This argument is utterly ridiculous. Ubisoft didn't "over-hype" the game, they engaged in some slightly underhand but humourous marketing and advertised a lot. The technical demos- which are seldom every anything like the final game at release- people took as canon and and based their opinion of what the finished product was going to be like on them.

You make a good point here. And yes I agree the people who overhyped this game to be a GTA clone are of course going to find it to be a disappointment.

But I think another problem with Watch Dogs was that (and this was posted by Johan. in another topic) is that if it was a next-gen only game released in 2016 or something I think it would have had a lot more polish. It looks as though Ubisoft were initially developing it for 7th gen consoles and PC and later and rather abruptly switched to NG consoles which affected the final version.

But like I said before my main worry is the PC optimization. It is the only thing holding me back from giving this game a shot.

I can only speak for my own experiences so far, but I'm having no issues with optimisation on PC. Very smooth, very high frame rate and excellent all-round performance. I appear to be almost unique in that though.

Blood-is-in-diamond: enough with the GTA loving. There's a whole section of the forum you can go to shout from the rooftops about that. Meaningful comparisons focusing on W_D, fine. Generally comparisons and asking why everyone is "hating" on GTA, not fine.

Surely there's a simple explanation as to why I'm spending 5 f*cking hours on the mission Breakable Things....

Is that because it's so difficult because of the difficulty setting or is it a really long mission?

We don't need a W_D versus V thread. It's bound to just be a sh*t-flinging match and I really can't be arsed to deal with the inevitable cheal-up operation.

Has anyone played the Multiplayer yet?

I haven't bought it yet and my decision hangs on that pretty much. Mostly just information about the "free roam" mode. I understand it only exists on the next gen versions. Are you able to create your own private lobby and just mess around with a mate or two, or is it a veil to disguise a full map deathmatch?

So far the game does not sound worth it, especially considering it is £55 for download on 360 and £60 on download for next gen, yet £40 in stores for both consoles. It makes no sense and it is f*cking extortion considering it is almost entirely pure profit from a download. It should be at least £5 cheaper than retail. Especially if they want their f*cking diskless vision to ever come true.

By the looks of the gameplay vids, even those on PC with maxed settings, it looks pretty awful. At least just comparing it to almost any other game out right now, even older titles.

All those little issues, add up to an annoyance that makes you want to stop playing. I don't want to waste that kind of cash on something that could easily be better absorbed after waiting until it goes cheap.

Does anyone own this on the 360/PS3? I know the graphics are obviously not as good as next gen. I just want to know if it is worth buying or to get a PS4?

TBH anything that has similar graphics to GTA5 would be good for me and plus graphics are not the be all end all of games, are there any mechanics or depth missing from current gen?

i have it on PS3 and was thinking the same way you are.

IMO, i have yet to see a NG game that actually looks "next gen". i'm holding off on the PS4 until a game gets made that forces me to buy one, e.g. a new RDR? :O

WD is fun and there is loads of sh*t to do, but it's not worth buying into the next gen just to play it. :monocle:

I am going to go out on a limb here and say you either suck at the game, or were overthinking the hacking or could not find the office or something. It took me a while but only because I was doing stealth, or trying to.

You can create private free modes, yes.

And there's this option to have friendly fire on (it's off by default.) If 2 players have that enabled, they can kill eachother.

So it's not really just a deathmatch, which I dig.

Don't judge the graphics by a gameplay video. That's all I'm going to say.

I would. It has the graphics and stealth of hitman, stealing cars and open world like GTA. It's an amazing game. Trust me, it's even amazing looking on last gen!

I recommend it, but before buying it, watch this video:

at this point i would. it definitely appeals to my hitman/deus ex gaming sensibilities and i feel quite a bit of freedom with how i want to approach things. i am the type of person who sometimes likes to blaze guns, yet is also prepared to wait patiently for that perfect stealth kill or sneak through opportunity to arise.. it being my choice is what appeals to me in these instances.

from what i've experienced so far, it may be leaning more towards the rpg crowd, as opposed to strict gta fans. there are perk trees and rewards for different styles of gameplay, which i personally like.

as i only got to spend a couple of hours with it i think i will hold my final opinion until i have enhanced the skills and seen the end result.. but i will say this, i got that lovely feeling of "what do i want to do now.. probably should go to bed, buuuut.. i'll just check this thing out"... next thing i know it's 3am and i'm debating whether or not i need to sleep before work.. (i do)

You're going to be disappointed if you're a long time Deus Ex fan. It's fun enough though.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm probably going to check it out in a few weeks! Got some other games in my backlog and busy with school. I'm going to see if my friends have tried it.

I love the game. But, I'll admit. The graphics are a little weird to me. There are some points where the Graphics are not that mind blowing then they are breathtaking, Apparently its hard to make mirrors in games and only rockstar knows how to do it lol. I feel like Ubi hyperfocused on certain graphical elements then skipped over some. It doesn't make sense to me to make rain effects so awesome but then not put reflections in windows and mirrors. They purposely didn't put mirrors in cars because they don't know how to make reflections. Its not a hardware issue because rockstar did reflections in last gen.

Driving isn't that bad too me. If you go into this game looking at it being its own game. its entertaining. But, its hard to get over those little immersion details that are important.

and gameplay wise it is like from 2009 with better animations. The Order 1886 looks great and the only thing they showed so far is scripted stuff,QTE in cut-scenes and TP cover based shooting with cramped levels.

I don't think you've played inFamous. The animation is fine and so is the gameplay. Whats wrong with it? It's always been fluid and smooth. Why fix something that ain't broken nor is it boring? It's a next gen game in every way, unless you're a hater.

So basically guys aren't buying next gen because they don't have that game thats "pops" to them. Okay, I guess I can understand that, to each his own I suppose. But, I hate to break the bad news for guys, it aint getting any better for atleast the next year or two. When your saying games like W.D. and say for instance Infamous SS or hell even the new Wolfenstein and well Ryse even, doesn't "pop" for you. I think your going to be real dissapointed for the next two years at least. The jump from curr. gen. to next gen. this time was not like going PS2 to PS3 or Xbox to Xbox 360. The jump isn't as far as those were. Even games like The Witcher 3 or even The Division, from the actual gameplay videos, not cinematic scenes. Will not do it for you either I'm guessing. Can't forget, all these trailers we are seeing for games now are going to be like the E3 12' W.D. trailer, all done on high end PC's that won't look that good come release time. Even The Witcher 3, after seeing gameplay, it for sure "pops" for me.

Now, me for instance loves how the new games look. They all "pop" to me. W.D., The Witcher 3, The Division, Sunset Overdrive, Wolfenstein. I think they look crisp and next geny. So if you wana just watch videos of next gen stuff online for the next two years be my guest. But until developers pull there heads out of there a**, it aint getting any better any time soon for ya I guess. This also means to quit trying to do all these cross gen titles, and focus on the future. That actually might be a reason why as well, maybe if they put all that curr. gen. effort in next gen stuff. But after reading more comments, I think basically a hand will have to come out of your tv and slap you in the face to tell you next gen is here and it aint getting any better for a while. Infamous SS is deffinatly next gen looking along with others. I'm starting to think as well, anyone will come up with an excuse on why they shouldn't buy something thats either one out of there league or two they just can't afford it. Basically, when someone tells me next gen. doesn't look next geny, its just like saying Kate Upton just doens't look good. But like I said, to each his own. Its all good (especially since I'm next gen.)

Surely there's a simple explanation as to why I'm spending 5 f*cking hours on the mission Breakable Things....

How is it taking you that long?F*ck do I know. But I know for sure this game is steaming pile of utter sh*t. Why? Longetivity in missions; like constant detections by enemies. It kills the game for me. Not hype. I was never hyped for this.

I only bought this game because it's open world. If I knew the missions were VERY difficult & long, I wouldn't spend $95 on a POS.

I don't think you've read my post carefully enough. Nothing is wrong with the animation,it's superb but the rest of the game(game mechanics) is something that we saw already, nothing new.

I'm only asking because it only took me maybe 20 mins to do that mission and that's because I prefer stealth and hacking to handle enemies. Try all different entry points and look or cameras so you can cam hop. It marks enemies and it will show you vulnerabilities

G The Generous

ahahaha! I love how those who believed the hype trying to defend this game

Ubisoft is really good at building up people's hype by good marketing and PR stunt.

I don't mind about the dumb down graphic, but the game's tone looks horribily blank (unlike the tone you saw at E3)

just like Ubisoft's typical trend (Far Cry 3, AC4 for example), the main campaign is too short, and they filled the game with ton of repeatedly side quests to keep the game's length, it feels fun at first but can akso gets boring fast.

the plot has some annoying cliche, there are no plot-twist or mind-blowing, but they did a good job keeping the story exciting and you can't really stop playing once you deep into it.

hacking is kind of disappointed to me, the idea of hacking the whole city by a phone is amazing and creative, too bad it was poorly executed in game (press X to hack dis, press X to hack das)

the enemy's AI suck, which makes the game too easy. even on realistic mode, the game is still a walk in the park, if you can keep your life well.

well, I think it's a good game, not as expected, but just good enough, nothing special. I would give it a 7/10
