but the hacking is fun

you mean pointing your mouse cursor and holding Q?

TB was playing on ps4 and I am playing on Ps3.I cannot say anything regarding the graphics but it just on par with gta4.

The hacking TB mentioned as fun was using the hidden camera to search for stuff and things, the flow of hacking while driving is smooth.

I have a feeling the pop-in is because of it being cross-gen.

can you parkour????

Hold R2 to run and while running, hold O to parlor, the whole action is smooth. But it just feels too simple..

i have now had the chance to spend a couple of hours playing and my initial impression is that i like it. i am seeing elements from some of my favourite games- hitman, fallout, assassin's creed, deus ex, batman and of course gta. right up my alley with only minimal lube required..

..so far the story is interesting and there are ways to play the game that suit your own style. i like that you can blast your way through, or use hacking and stealth, or a combination of both. at the moment it's all working well and there seems to be quite a bit of freedom with how you play.

there are a lot of things going on which can feel complicated and overwhelming at first and it takes a bit of getting used to before you are able to utilise things to your benefit, but this is something i am enjoying because once you get it, it feels natural.

as far as the driving goes, i wouldn't say it's the best or the worst. i would say it takes effort to learn how to do it, and as others have said, some destruction elements are a bit naff. once you master driving and hacking it does become quite enjoyable though. if i were to compare the physics to the driving in gtav, i would just say that it feels "heavier" and is definitely different.

now for the lube- i agree with people saying that it needs more polish. i never get sucked into hype and didn't expect this game to break all barriers, but there are things it is falling short on which it really shouldn't be for this type of game. having said that, at the moment the good is outweighing the bad imo and i would like to see where they go from here with this type of game..

there are certainly aspects that could be done better, but all in all i am really looking forward to getting back in there after work and ignoring everyone i know for a while as i delve further into it

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I am already interested to see where they take the game from here. Look at what they did from AC 1 to AC 2.

So guys if anyone is having stutter issues like me, then lower the GPU Max Buffered Frames to 1. It pretty much nearly eliminated it. It plays wonderfully for me on Ultra settings with MHBAO and SMAA at 1080p

at this point i would. it definitely appeals to my hitman/deus ex gaming sensibilities and i feel quite a bit of freedom with how i want to approach things. i am the type of person who sometimes likes to blaze guns, yet is also prepared to wait patiently for that perfect stealth kill or sneak through opportunity to arise.. it being my choice is what appeals to me in these instances.

from what i've experienced so far, it may be leaning more towards the rpg crowd, as opposed to strict gta fans. there are perk trees and rewards for different styles of gameplay, which i personally like.

as i only got to spend a couple of hours with it i think i will hold my final opinion until i have enhanced the skills and seen the end result.. but i will say this, i got that lovely feeling of "what do i want to do now.. probably should go to bed, buuuut.. i'll just check this thing out"... next thing i know it's 3am and i'm debating whether or not i need to sleep before work.. (i do)

I love kids nowadays.

"here, let me show you this video of some physics I personally don't like, while showing absolutely nothing else! Don't buy this game just because of the very few and select things that this video shows!"

It's pathetic, really.

You want a video to base your purchase on? Here it is:

I haven't watched it yet, but TB's the best in the business.

53:19 xD

Well if you want a true opinion of a game such as this and a real look at whether you should get it or not then it would have to be that long. Same goes for GTA games or Fallout and elder scrolls series. Other games like CoD and Max payne or Hitman will be shorter videos.

So far I am loving the game, the driving takes some getting used to, not as bad as saints row 2 but not close to GTA IV or V, the turning in particular is a bit over-sensitive, I keep turning too far and hitting a wall, the braking as well is almost non existent, takes a long time to stop, but all this is just something to get used to. I would prefer it if cover was O and vault was X, more of what I am used to but again that just needs me to adapt. The gunplay is decent and I am sure there are ways in the missions to avoid these massive shootouts by clever hacking and stealth but I've never been one for that, I am glad the gunplay is good so I have this kill em all alternative, was worried we would not have that from what I saw in trailers. I like the Reputation system, there are 2 main ways to go about a karma system that I see a lot of:

  • the infamous approach where it mostly depends on binary good or evil choices, but can be affected by gameplay, and you should be aiming for full good or evil to get the rewards
  • The approach used in true crime where it is just a number that goes from badass to badass asshole, not good and evil, and completely decided by gameplay and has no real benefits or consequences except for maybe some cosmetic ones like the people hating you more or liking you more.

WD is the latter from what I have seen which is the option I prefer.

So far I have seen that this game does everything to a satisfactory standard, and most things are done well, however nothing has blown me away yet, the hacking is fun and the police chases I have had come close but not yet got me hooked to the point I play for 12 hours, however this might be due to my current mood and being quite ill but it is an indication that this is not a 'special' game but it is a good one, very good in fact.

I don't feel comfortable with giving it a rating at such an early stage. Probably be about 8 or 9 as of now.

The same thing happened with Saints Row IV. I see a pattern here: GTA fansite members hate games that can be said to be like GTA that are not GTA. So-called "GTA Clones"

That's like calling Halo a Doom clone. Candy Crush IS a Bejeweled clone, but Watch Dogs, Saints Row IV etc are NOT GTA clones. because they take a similar formula to GTA and do something else with it, whereas Candy Crush IS Bejeweled with candy instead of jewels, memorise the difference people, there will be a pop quiz. It is not like R* have a patent on open world crime games. Yes it is not super creative to do but that is what the people want, it provides more entertainment than the games that are created with a similar methodology but singing off the same hymnsheet as Call of Duty.

The way I see it, I like GTA, so I am likely to like a game that does similar things to GTA but is a different spin on it.

seriously.

I mean, half the reason that I love Watch_Dogs is because I love Grand Theft Auto.

if GTA didn't exist, Watch_Dogs might not exist.

you know if chocolate cake didn't exist, then German chocolate cake wouldn't exist either.

so do they really need to be compared?? they're both f*cking great for different reasons even though they share similar roots. why does it matter which one is "better" or not?

it doesn't.

Sorry Diablo but I have been hearing a lot of bad things about Watch Dogs. By "bad" I mean that a lot of people who have indeed played it are saying it is good but nowehre close to being great. The number of people you quoted are very little to the ones who find it a disappointment.

That isn't my reason for not getting the game though it's because Ubi completely messed up the PC version and all these stupid DLC stuff.

A few things I like about Watch Dogs is that

  1. the city really does feel alive. NPCs react to each other and the player. They have real backgrounds, and actually serve a purpose in the game
  2. when driving a vehicle, I won't see a thousand other vehicles that are the exact same model as mine everywhere
  3. evading the police is actually FUN
  4. features weren't cut from the single player for multiplayer
  5. everything is random. From NPC behavior to different crime opportunities that pop up
  6. interiors. Whether walking in buildings or hacking into someone's network and seeing inside their apartment/house/office
  7. the cops aren't overpowered

Those are just some things I can list off the top of my head. I'm still in Act I and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Sucks for those that played it and found it disappointing.

But what can I say? When you go in expecting GTA set in Chicago with hacking abilities, you're setting yourself up to be disappointed.

Simply put, this game is NOT GTA. It does nothing to be like GTA. And even if it was, it's way too detailed to be a GTA game. Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it fanboys.

I'm back to playing my money's worth out of Watch Dogs, and then some.

Just my opinion but I think most of the people I've seen that say they hate the game or it sucks are the ones that already had made up their minds that they were gonna hate the game OR over-hyped the game in their minds which always leads to disappointment. That being said, i do think it's a great game that does have it's flaws like all games. I think this franchise has a lot of promise and it will only get better over the next few years

This. But I think Ubi is too blame to here. Especially the downgrade fiasco really affected their reputation a lot. But then I watched a few more videos and I must say this game does seem to lack a lot of detail (ONLY ONE SAVE SLOT? What the hell?) but I might still get it in the future though but my PC should run it first. But as of now I have no plans for it.

But Ubisoft overhyped the game like hell. They never said the game was GTA but they overhyped it in a different manner. Remember the "2 months is enough to visit LS" poster? Yes the gamers have to take the blame for joining the hype train but Ubisoft should also take some of the blame.

This argument is utterly ridiculous. Ubisoft didn't "over-hype" the game, they engaged in some slightly underhand but humourous marketing and advertised a lot. The technical demos- which are seldom every anything like the final game at release- people took as canon and and based their opinion of what the finished product was going to be like on them.
