I don't even understand how they'd go about incorporating a countryside in the game, if they truly want to stick to what they're saying then having a countryside just wouldn't work, unless somehow, some way the countryside became rather high tech and had a lot of machinery and electronics built into it then it simply wouldn't work.

I disagree, smart phones etc could go a long way with a bit of imagination even when in the country side. On the other hand i also agree with MWC, country side in certain chapters of the game would create new challenges what with the lack of technology, technology you are obviously dependant on throughout the game.

Not really, there's nothing for the smart phones to interact with, therefore it becomes pointless for there to actually be a countryside.

See this is your imagination limiting you.

What would players be doing in the countryside then? Hunting bears with their smartphones?

Honestly? I can't be bothered to think of it right now, give me time and an incentive and i'll come up with a whole list of sh*t worth going into.

I recognize the extra possibilities country side would present in a game based around technology like this. If you were to step back and think about it from a different perspective i bet you'd be able to think of things to do also. End of the day however this is the job of the game developer. Thinking out side of the box is a good thing.

Not when the box itself is something that you're trying to portray.

I guess you guys are never gonna see the possibilities in country side so i'll just leave it at that. Country side doesn't have to be just empty baron space you know.

Of course we know that you fool, what we're saying is Watch_Dogs isn't a type of game that's built around nature, it's built around technology, so please list all of the things we could do in the countryside that would add to the feel of the game, I'll give you as long as you like, and when you get back to me I'll tear a hole in each and everyone of them.

I asked a question to Jonathon Morin ,the Creative Director of Watch_Dogs, and hope he answers the question. I asked him if the map is just concrete jungle or there is more to that.

For this type of game. It doesnt make sense to put anything other than city....Countryside would be a waste of time....GTA 5 will have all that country jazz

What about if the countryside was much different than the countryside we know?

What if it was the main connection for the CtOS, long power grids running through it, huge roadside generators, and all the rest?

It's taking place in Chicago, in the countryside you'll find lakes, lakes and more lakes.

The countryside surrounding the windy city is everything but varied. Not interesting enough for game developers nor gamers. Lincoln Park and Grant Park are the closest you'll get to countryside. It's a nice city. Lake Michigan really feels like it's an ocean so the backdrop will be like GTA IV.

The Disrupt engine does seem to do water physics well so I think we could have a large lake in this game perhaps in the suburbs of Chicago in this game. I believe the closest thing to rural areas will be outer suburbs. The countryside idea was just wishful thinking. I am sure Aiden will have breathing room from the core of the city though.

How and where exactly did you obtain this piece of information, although it's far more likely that it'll come out after Grand Theft Auto V there's absolutely no saying that it's a fact. We've got no official release date on Watch_Dogs so there's a higher chance that perhaps Grand Theft Auto V will release first due to Rockstar having a set release window in mind, though we all know how Rockstar love delays.

Therefore I see no real reason why you're making an assumption like this and then passing it off as fact. Just because something seems like it might be true doesn't mean that it is, that's valuable advice and not just for video games but for life in general. Yet sadly it seems that a rather large portion this forum would benefit greatly from taking it since they haven't figured it out already.

Now, I'll give you the fact that of course September seems a little strange of a month to release the game in, but it still wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Rockstar to either push their game back a number of months (perhaps to next April or May) and because of that and the fact that there's still a chance that Watch_Dogs will have a shorter marketing campaign the Grand Theft Auto V's.

Long story short, it's still too early to have anyway of telling if what you've assumed is correct.

The lead developer said it's coming out at the end of the year.. most likely to coincide with the release of the PS4.

I'm sure he appreciates what you're trying to tell him, and it is true what you're saying about the general life lesson of not stating things unless they're facts, but you are incorrect.

Watch_Dogs is releasing sometime in Fall 2013. The astronomical fall for the northern hemisphere begins on September 22. GTAV is schedueled for September 17. So this man was correct in stating that Watch_Dogs will release after V, unless V gets delayed in which case it wouldn't be the poster's fault, but only Rockstar's fault.

Ah that's okay then, but what I've said still stands. Without a dead certain release date and even with one there's still no certainty that we can expect either game to launch before the other, at least until Ubisoft decide to give us an actual release date then there's no certainty of anything happening.

Plus if there's one thing that any Rockstar fan should know about them it's that Rocktober is the place where Rockstar like to release their games, and if they want to stick to their schedule without too big of delay then they'll most likely delay it again for one or two months, especially with the announcement of the PlayStation 4.

Not to say that it doesn't look like all the evidence is currently pointing towards Rockstar releasing their game before Ubisoft, it's not set in stone just yet and it's something that we're all going to have to adept a 'wait and see' kind of attitude for, if we want to be able to judge it properly, and not just unthinkingly claim that one will release before the other at such an early stage.

In an interview with a Dutch game website, Ubisoft’s boss Yves Guillemot tells more about the development of Watch Dogs.

It appears that the next-gen and PC-version is developed first, and after that is finished, they’ll be looking at how to put it on X360 and PS3.

“The team is developing it on high end pc’s and next gen, after that other teams are looking how they can make it fit for the older generation. So the first approach is to see how they can take full advantage of the next gen consoles.” Watch Dogs is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from Ubisoft’s Bucharest, Paris, Quebec and Reflections studios.

Who me ? I'm sorry dude, I just like to make my posts worthwhile, I always think that if I'm going to post I might as well make it a good length.

Though to be fair towards me, it's not too, too long, I mean come on, it's only three paragraphs, it isn't like I bother to write a novel every time I post (now that would be worthy of calling something a long post). I suppose that it's also due to the fact that I'm quite a fast typer so every time I start a post I don't really take the time to look at how much I've written down and by the end I only take a quick scan so that I know I've not misspelt anything before I post it.

Other then that though I'm not too sure that I actually make long posts, I'd say that they're a decent length, but certainly not at a length where they'd actually put people off of reading them. So I've come this conclusion, you've either got a very, very short attention span (which wouldn't be too unlikely) or I make ridiculously long posts far too often, I'm going with the first conclusion.

Oh and I hope this isn't too long for you to not read and justify looking past it.

Ignore him mate, really. I wouldn't classify your post(s) as long at all. Some of the other forums I browse often have up to 1,000 word comments and users don't have a problem with those!

Unfortunately I don't have much to say in regards to Watch Dogs. I'm not a big fan of the cover art, but hey, that doesn't really affect the quality of the actual game so I'm not too fussed.

No, backwards adapting is what you want to hear. That means it's built for next-gen then ported to current gen, so expect way more then prettier graphics. I understand the worry from the standpoint of AI & physics though, but I think they built this game for next-gen from the ground up and they are compromising with the current gen edition.

I hope so anyway.

A Watch Dogs exec just called GTA out.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/39341...hallenge-gta-v/

I don't like the idea of backwards adapting it for the current gen - it sounds like the only difference in the next gen version would be prettier graphics, but we'll see.

You have no idea how big the difference will be, Just compare any cross gen game and you'll know.

I don't think you understand what I'm getting at.

The next generation of consoles opens up a lot more possibilities in terms of gameplay - not just graphics. What I'm worried about is that Watch Dogs on the PS4 is just an xbox 360 game with a free hi-res texture pack.

What I'd like to see is a more bustling city with more peds and traffic on screen, running more complex AI routines. The player character should also be able to do more animations, controlled movements and have better physics. This might not happen with the early cross-generation games.
