If its more detailed underneath then use the clone/stamp tool and use somewhere similar in the image to cover it up, or you can find a similar image and use part of it to help bring.the image back If you have photoshop cs5 onward then there is a content awarness feature in the fill and in like a clone brush which I think is called the spot healing tool. It has been fixed of bugs. -> http://www.partha.com/ Also download the additional plugin installer from there, install it after Gimp installation. Now it´s very easy because You don´t need to install Python separately on Windows, like in previous versions of Gimp. Meaning You can easily install other useful python plugins too from gimp registry, like layer effects. From menu Filters->Enhance->Heal Selection. Selected area will be filled by pixels taken from outside selection.
