WebGL GTA

Niklas von Hertzen has implemented an open-source loader and renderer (currently very buggy) for the files from the original GTA using WebGL (i.e. in a browser):

Pretty cool if someone were to pick it up (given that they have said this is all they are likely to do on it).

I think you can just walk around the city but it's cool being able to do that from a web browser. I hope someone continues it.

I can't seem to get it to work on FireFox 12. I can only see the fps graph at the top-left corner of the screen. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

 

Edit: Doesn't work on Chrome either.

That's the loading screen. You may have to wait a while but it loads in less than 10 seconds here.

Do you have a decent gfx card? Integrated gfx cards may not work with the demo

 

It's about 4mb download and about 5 second initialization on a half decent CPU, so shouldn't take very long for the game to start.
