why PC version always coming so late ?

Are you still running the Wall of Shame?  That says it all as to why the PC gets their games late.

Hello there. Yes, it's there but the hoster disabled my freaking account, I'm waiting for them to change their minds before I upload somewhere else.

Sorry, I forgot to say hello and something along the lines of "long-time no see" smile.gif

Well that sucks. Given the important content of The Wall, hosting companies should be vying for the opportunity to host that thing.

Data is not lost, I just need to find another hoster and get off my lazy ass.

....  Many of the console kiddy types (not console gamers in general, but the console kids and Rockstar staffers who rant and rave about stuff they know nothing about) think that the first game in any series simply must have a heavy 3D element in the first-person perspective.  Since GTA 1 and 2, despite being technically 3D, were mostly 2D sprite-based games, they don't count these as part of the GTA series, and therefore think that the series began with GTA III on the PlayStation 2 (there's probably also an element of simply not being able to count).  Max Payne was always a first-person shooter game when it started on PC, and therefore the aforementioned console kiddy types know that they can't pull a swifty and pretend it is and always will be a console game (despite that being their true desire).

Which Rockstar staffers do you refer to?, if you can shed more light on your opinion with facts

The Housers didn't come in and invent the wheel, they just re-invented it, and yes, consoles will always be part of the gaming equation, though PC was used for gaming, the idea of the console DOES extend into the mid 1970s, computer gaming was just not there at the same time frame

Slamman, there has been a number of ridiculous claims coming from mouths of developers. Can't remember any off hand coming from R* as they like to say next to nothing about PC gaming, but I do recollect some statements about that Lucas arts SW game. They said something along the lines "you're going to need a $2k PC to play this game properly" comparing it to the console version. I can dig up the link, if you need it. There are just extremely stupid examples that are aimed at confusing and misinforming the public.

I haven't heard them speak on PC gaming other then modding, which by most accounts I came across, they still support, but since HC, it's been more covert perhaps. I do think the modders impress with their efforts, even on the jaded Rockstar staff. The future will perhaps shed more proof of this, lets hope

Slam, you know I always like to take claims to the extreme when I talk of Rockstar. Certain developers (Epic) have been known recently (last 10 years) to talk console technology up as if people shouldn't even bother trying to get into PC gaming. That theory I posted regarding the reason for no serious amount of Max Payne 3 exclusivity is pretty weak. In reality, the true reason that Rockstar began (and continued) delaying the GTA III games (and possibly other subsequent original console games) was because of a contractual agreement with Sony for 6 months of exlusive release with the PS2 console. Later with GTA IV, Sony and Microsoft were seemingly both at the table receiving an excessive period of exclusivity, while Microsoft went even further and received the DLC exclusivity due to a drunken tattoo mishap between Peter Moore and the Houser brothers at the Blue Oyster.

Definitely a bit of console whoring and hatred for PC gaming there with the Housers, but not enough to delay the PC version of Max Payne 3 for more than a week or two.

With the later of the games of the GTA series, it is clear that piracy fears were part of the reason for the delay, but we all know about the contracts and the dealings, and there's a strong possibility that Rockstar would've milked the two console manufacturers for all it was worth when it came to GTA IV.

Even though I'm trying to point out the Rockstar mindset as intrinsic to the Houser's background, I'm not in any way saying consoles should be and PC games shouldn't

There's room for both, and advantages keen to both ends, so I do hope RDR as well comes to PC and hoping they can make it work optimized, the biggest challenge since I still have glitching for RDR on console that makes it a hair pulling experience at times, freezing, textures and audio not loading, and having to start the game over from removing the disc, so it's trouble no matter which way you slice it.

Speaking to the Sony vs Microsoft end dealings for exclusive release, this has no real outright bearing on PC, but though not spoken, again I feel it's PC as not at the heart of the Housers since they were raised with Nintendo and you don't equate Nintendo to PC gaming at all, that's really the crux of that

The need for funding was to build RAGE, we don't see a repeat of that now. With a new console, one can argue price, but it comes down eventually, Specs stay the same and it's easier to get all games out on the same hardware, a number of things behind it.

Also regarding new console cost versus PC, the game developers aren't selling consoles, they get the kit ahead of it's public release so they can work on it as such, in the PC realm, work is geared differently, but my point is a $600 new console versus a gaming PC might be thought of on more level ground for the consumer

R* may not care about the number of consoles sold, but MS and Sony certainly do. GTA games have been console sellers so it's no wonder things like those deals went on. The level of hype for GTAV is very low atm and once it picks up, there will surely be room for more behind the closed door accords.

To be perfectly honest, the reality is most sales and profits happen the first seven days, that's been true for most games. In this light, it's very important to delay the effects of piracy for the first two weeks, if at all possible. In this regard, if PC piracy is really such a big influence on their sales, I can live with 2 week delay which seems to be standard for some publishers. If those 2 weeks will help them make loads more, let them. However, if they decide to play us like idiots and dick us around for another 6-10 months so they can maximize profits, I'll just have to minimize my expenses and put my money where it's at least one tiny bit appreciated. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem and I don't think I'd have a hard time giving up on a developer which long ago gave up on me, treating me like an idiot only because I don't do my gaming in front of a telly.

I may be a masochist, but enough is enough.

Funny but when I mentioned Max Payne to highlight the PC version delay

(expecting the GTAV version to do the same)

The Mods shut my message down (NOT a max payne forum?!)

Maybe the Mods should grow a pair and stop making excuses for Rockstar and

berate them for making PC users suffer

The PC version of GTA V will come out with a week or so after the console release. The reason why GTA IV was delayed on PC is that there wasn't a PC version of the RAGE engine. Now that there is one, they can basically copy and paste all the game data, and pay one guy to port all the changes done to the engine on the console version to the pc one. They don't care about which console they release their game to, they care about money.

you guys are missing the point.

more people own consoles than game-ready PC's.

it's simple math.

if you release a game across multiple platforms on the same day, the console version will always sell more copies and make more money.

the industry is well aware of this.

so when they sign release contracts with the console makers, the console makers usually/always add a clause that ensures any PC version will be not be released until well after the console version has been picked up by everyone who wants it. it's a very common practice.

What the hell?

Your math is so wrong... There is no way that there are more consoles than PCs. There is a lot of PCs which can play most games on normal. High and ultra is other thing. Consoles are playing on Low settings.

There is more sells, because most people just want to put DVD in and play it. They don't want to lost his time for driver updates etc. They are lazy!

It comes later because Rockstar prefers crappy cheap ports for the PC and then leave the rest to the modding community (like Bethesda).

Is it possible Modding "console gaming" similar to PC modding?? If not, WHY?

The file formats are different between console and PC versions of games. All these modding tools which are created are for the PC version won't open Xbox game files. However some files are still the same format like .dat and .cfg because they're simple and can be opened with notepad.
