Possible reveal during NBA playoffs/finals

This all somehow makes sense to me. R* needs money to advertise GTA, so what do they do? They spam their website with mp3 info to get buys for that game which in turn they will use to advertise GTA V at a sporting event which would blow black oops 2 out of the water.

Nope. I don't think the NBA would want to risk promoting such a controversial game with teenagers and their parents watching. Thats why NFL wouldn't have done it. Plus R* wouldnt want to waste that much money on getting a slot when they have such a massive following.

You do know that the NBA and NFL don't control the ads right?

While you make a great point, it's the networks that control the ads. TNT, one of the major NBA playoff networks, has action movies for R-rated audiences with killing and gore all the time. They show Saving Private Ryan almost nonstop for memorial and veterans day.

Yeah I get that, but with all the parents up in arms about not wanting kids to see that and calling it a "murder simulator", I don't think TNT, ESPN, TBS ect. want to showcase GTA during such a prime slot. I think movies are a little different however. Like a movie is something you sit down, and watch, there really isn't much participation besides viewing it (and maybe putting on 3-D glasses and sh*t cool.gif ) Where as GTA, its a little more hands on where you guide a set story and make decisions. Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you that it shouldn't matter, but too many people still buy into to the "Those games make kids go crazy and kill and rape people"

I see. Sadly, you are right about parental views. Advocacy groups would have a field day.

*Off-Topic: f*ck Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) too. They're the reason that the legal drinking age here in the US is 21 while Canada and Mexico are both 18. Fat soccer mom c*nts.

Why spend money on something only a certain population will see, when they can just post a trailer on their website for free which would probably reach a greater audience.

Not everyone goes on their website

A more diverse population visits the website.

Most people who visit R*'s website are already fans. The advertising goal is to broaden the fan base, not cater to the one that already exists. TV ads reach people who haven't heard of MP3 and GTAV.

*The R* website is an even smaller portion of the population than the NBA finals.

Problem with advertisements during these playoffs is the only country that gets the advertisement is the U.S and possibly Canada. The ad would end up on the internet anyway. May as well cut out the middle man.

True. It will end up on the internet, but the initial wave of exposure to the ad via the television is much larger because in reality, people don't really surf the web for ads. The ad has to come to them.

I don't think Rockstar would reveal V at NBA playoffs. Movies and other games. The only way V would be revealed is on the Rockstar Games website or maybe at e3?

Off Topic: By the way,GO MAGIC biggrin.gif

I was thinking about this too, though it's highly unlikely it could happen. Even if the new COD is being revealed most of the world already know it is going to be revealed at the playoffs but nobody knows nothing about GTA so yeah it could be possible. Never say Never right?

Why announce something during a sporting event...with a game not even remotely related to sports?

...no offense, but you'd have to be living under a rock to not know that this has been done TONS of times.

Not everyone likes NBA you know...tounge.gif so he might not watch it

The NBA is growing in popularity, and it is easy to market the game to chunks of the market instead of just the internet. A lot of Americans and Europeans watch the NBA finals; and a lot of Americans and Europeans are in the R* target market. Plus teen through middle aged males who like sports generally like action too.

suicidal.gif No offense but I think the NHL and MLS have bigger audiences than the NBA now and that's embarrassing considering its an American based sport. For this reason, R* would be better off advertising on the Lifetime Movie Network or QVC.

no way, this is not the way to work in R *

Wow, I am glad you know that, thanks for sharing your wisdom with us all!

R* had a new tv spot premier for Max Payne during March madness, so yeah, they definitely don't work like that...

suicidal.gif No offense but there something called multiple ads. When did I say that this should/would be the only ad audience? MLS and NHL can have commercials too. NBA is the matter at hand (read the topic title) so that's why I didn't reference the NHL and MLS.

You really think that there is only one sport that R* can air ads for and be done with it? I don't watch the NBA much, but that doesn't mean you should ignore that entire audience. Think outside the box for once.

As for your better off with Lifetime and QVC remarks...MP3 had ads on ESPN during March Madness (college basketball) so I hope you're just trolling.

Why not?! The league is already controversial itself....not to mention corrupted.

Yea, Rockstar do TV ads, that's nothing new. What they don't do premier their first few trailers on TV. I do not so Rockstar ever doing this, because they have a global fan base and making the trailer exclusive to an American sporting event is not what they do. Their trailers will be released on their website for everyone to see. Once the game is closer to release then we will see TV adverts.

Ha The Chi-Ca-Go Bowls. All I'm saying is I don't think TNT or what ever network hosts sport's playoffs would want to promote GTA. I guarantee 20,000 moms would call in the minutes after they play it and say, "YOUR COURRRUPTING MY SON YOU BAST*RDS! happy.gif " I wish people would just chill the hell out about Video Games, it's the kids that do the things they do, not the games.

I'm pretty sure NFL and NBA are the biggest audiences here. Or maybe i'm just biased and distorting it because I love basketbal and hate hockey. But either way I don't think there's going to be a trailer. I know Black Ops already has a spot during the playoffs though. Tomorrow I think.

Isn't this what everybody said about the superbowl?

Why yes, yes it is. That thread went from advertisement speculation to an all out "f*ck your country mine's better" thread in a matter of minutes.

I keep seeing the term Reveal being used. GTA V has already been revealed and is out there, we are waiting on info such as the plot synopsis, new features, characters, release date and system info, most of this stuff is highly unlikely to be highlighted in a video let alone during a commercial break. Black Ops II, while already leaked still hasn't been properly reveled yet. there will be a trailer followed by game magazine articles or online articles.

I hate NHL MLS and NBA. My point was the NBA is not a great advertising market because its not even a top 3 sport in America anymore. And if you thought I was serious about QVC well then suicidal.gif

icon14.gif Tell that to R* then, because apparently they found it necessary to air ads during March Madness basketball on ESPN.

Did anyone visit the Call Of Duty website before this? Duurrr the big announcement from Black Ops 2 had a countdown timer and everything saying to tune in during the playoffs.

You guys really thought that they would show a reveal at the same venue at the same time as Call Of Duty.

Hahaha
