Triple Vacuum Seal
I thought the same thing if R* was really aiming for some publicity; but I was thinking so about Max Payne 3 because it's a game where people actually need convincing to buy while GTA is a household name. MrcTOtheJ
Why announce something during a sporting event...with a game not even remotely related to sports? That's only going to rich a fraction of the Audience, and I'm sure allot of the fans of GTA will just which it on the internet, so they might as well just show another trailer Via the website and save some cash while they're at it. Triple Vacuum Seal
Why announce something during a sporting event...with a game not even remotely related to sports? ...no offense, but you'd have to be living under a rock to not know that this has been done TONS of times. The NBA is growing in popularity, and it is easy to market the game to chunks of the market instead of just the internet. A lot of Americans and Europeans watch the NBA finals; and a lot of Americans and Europeans are in the R* target market. Plus teen through middle aged males who like sports generally like action too. Then I stand corrected, I really don't whach sports what so ever (besides motor sports) but still I don't see why, unless they want to maybe hit some new fans with the trailer, allot of the long time fans, like us here on the fourms, would find out about it online, which would be cheaper than geting a commercial during a major sporting event, and be easier. You do make a good point on the issue of price. NBA playoffs/finals ad slots are very expensive; so that is where I see things getting cloudy. MrcTOtheJ
Exactly, which was the main point I was trying to raise was the money, it costs a fortune to get a slot on a major sporting event such as this, or something like the Super Bowl, I mean GTA is an established enough franchise to where they can just release online trailers, untell the release is near, and then they just send out some minor adds on the TV like they did for IV. Triple Vacuum Seal
Yeah, if I was R*, I would try to go for the holiday slots and try to air ads during action movies to save money. "shut up, sit down, relax"
Australia
Why spend money on something only a certain population will see, when they can just post a trailer on their website for free which would probably reach a greater audience.

KrushLTx10
I never thought of this. This could very well be possible... but not for GTA. If they had a long commercial during the NBA finals, that could very well increase MP3's sales a ton. It has a good chance of going through for MP3. If a GTA trailer actually comes during the playoffs though I'd sh*t my pants.

Not everyone goes on their website A more diverse population visits the website. Most people who visit R*'s website are already fans. The advertising goal is to broaden the fan base, not cater to the one that already exists. TV ads reach people who haven't heard of MP3 and GTAV. *The R* website is an even smaller portion of the population than the NBA finals. GTA_La_Costra_Nostra
Nope. I don't think the NBA would want to risk promoting such a controversial game with teenagers and their parents watching. Thats why NFL wouldn't have done it. Plus R* wouldnt want to waste that much money on getting a slot when they have such a massive following. You do know that the NBA and NFL don't control the ads right? While you make a great point, it's the networks that control the ads. TNT, one of the major NBA playoff networks, has action movies for R-rated audiences with killing and gore all the time. They show Saving Private Ryan almost nonstop for memorial and veterans day. Yeah I get that, but with all the parents up in arms about not wanting kids to see that and calling it a "murder simulator", I don't think TNT, ESPN, TBS ect. want to showcase GTA during such a prime slot. I think movies are a little different however. Like a movie is something you sit down, and watch, there really isn't much participation besides viewing it (and maybe putting on 3-D glasses and sh*t ) Where as GTA, its a little more hands on where you guide a set story and make decisions. Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you that it shouldn't matter, but too many people still buy into to the "Those games make kids go crazy and kill and rape people"
