At the beginning, we could get to know the guy(think Shenmue)--where he works, who the people are in his life, then one day, as he is on his way to the local game store to buy the latest, blockbuster title, someone runs by him on the street and stuffs something into his pocket(diamonds), and that person gets executed in the streets, right in front of the protag. The gangsters who do it focus their attention on him, so he runs, and so starts the game. You are on the run from people you know are going to kill you no matter what so you fight for your life and end up working for some other gangsters and trying to find the person who is trying to kill you, but then there is a major twist; the gangsters that you started working for wanted the diamonds all along and knew who you were and that you had the 'ICE' so now that you helped them take out their biggest rivals, they want the diamonds and there can be no witness'. Kill them mother f***ers I say! Kill'em all! You just want your life back!! And time to play the new game that just came out. You have been thrust into the underworld of crime and learn it's nastiness and you learn how to defend yourself. You level up the more you do stuff until you become an expert. Doesn't have to be redneck, but small town/city indeed. Family could be Irish, African American, Hispanic, etc. (doesn't matter). -Your family name comes to prominence locally over the course of the game. -You go back to your home town and all out run sh*t like CJ did with Grove Street and Ganton. -You also become influential in LS. -You struggle with being involved in the vices of the big cities nearby while taking sh*t from the family about forgetting where you came from. -You don't easily become wanted in your local town. -Random people protect you from outsiders. -Your family is heavily involved in your crime ring. -Your family is diverse in life paths (related to a cop, senator, drug addict, snitch, a few straight edge corporate men/women who distance themselves, etc.). -You kill your brother or something in the final mission or somewhere along the way. They both suck and are played out. @SaddisticOtters, not all criminals now I'm more one the side with those who need a more believable criminal life path to prominence and respect. CJ's story was pretty believable, but his stereotypical gang-banger antics reminded me that his influence throughout the game was kind of far fetched. I know it's a video game, but yelling out "I'm a well dressed maniac foo" and "f*ck you po-po" (when getting arrested) just doesn't sound like the gestures of someone highly respected in a wide range criminal communities like his character. We must remember that the most powerful and wealthy in any trade (including crime) are generally highly intelligent, whether it be formal education or not. CJ was a good protag., but he didn't seem that intelligent. He just seemed like a thug who could simply shoot his way to the top; which is an approach that doesn't work in today's criminal structure. The thing what bothers is they never say what they actually want. So for all the people who don't want the hood feel, what kinda of theme do you want? Have any of you seen the movie Takers or the town? Gangsta theme I hate i dont like being a gang banger. Mafia theme i dont mind but i kinda want to change it up. Id rather want like a CREW theme. A group of well organized thieves of multi cultured. Crew of maybe 11-13 guys like danny oceans crew who organize big and small time robberies. Each having individual skills.
