MrcTOtheJ
This could work the same way with GTA V so that if you are "searching for the hidden packages" then no assasins try to take you out. Rockstar arent stupid, they know what they are doing. Yeah, they could have it so that event wouldn't happen if you have your phone turned off, that would work quite nicely. That way just incase it's one of those rare times when it happens, it won't so you can do what you're doing, without the worry of geting a hit squad sent after you. _SMOKEY_
These random events shouldn't be just assassination attempts. But car accidents between two or more NPC's or two ricers speeding past you as you drive to your next mission, it would make Los Santos actually feel like a living breathing city. Imagine this: As you walk out of Burgershot, a speeding futo gets t-boned by a bobcat on the intersection. Some NPC's stare in shock and some even come up to the drivers to see if they're ok. One of them calls for an ambulance. Suddenly the driver of the bobcat speeds away (maybe the car was stolen, or he doesn't have insurance). A nearby cop sees him and chases after him Or You're stuck in traffic, when all of a sudden a girl gets out of the car in front of you after having an argument w her boyfriend, and walks away balling her eyes out. Or You walk towards a nearby hotdog stand, when a couple of customized japanese imports drift the corner Edited April 28, 2012 by Alaannnn
Da Perzinga
In GTA III it was a little bit annoying. In SA it was a good balance in my opinion. They don't attack you immediately.
Timjones
Personally I think there should be an obvious trigger for this so you know what you're letting yourself in for and so it's not random. If I remember correctly, in LCS hitmen kept going after you after a point in the game and I found it annoying. In Skyrim you get assassins after you for no reason, too. Then, knowing the police in GTA you'll get wanted for defending yourself. I'd accept the idea provided that: - There's a way to put an end to it, eg. a specific mission(s) or weakening the gang's strength - A choice in-game which triggers it or prevents it eg. killing a key figure in an enemy gang or letting him live - The ideas you've suggested
Official General
To the racecar guy bitching about this idea and saying that it would be too real or end up annoying (even after it was thoroughly explained to you that there would be checks and balances with a system like this) the kind of things you describe doing in the game sound pretty lame and more like a life sim to me. "Let's say you're cruising around Los Santos enjoying the scenery and bird watching, that shouldn't be interrupted by assassination attempts!" I mean seriously, what are you aiming to do in a crime game? Kill all the pigeons for some gay achievement, just say f*ck the storyline and only focus on stunt jumps? This is an awesome idea and would fit perfectly with GTA, you can't tell me you were happy with the boringness that insured once you completed IV, it felt like this world you had been introduced to just abruptly ended. This idea could increase the longevity of the game and add to gameplay, the danger shouldn't end just because you killed the main bad guy I 100 % agree with this. Especially with the part about the GTA IV abruptly ending after the main storyline. This is why I say GTA IV disappointed in many areas and wasted chances to be very great. Liberty City in IV would have been the perfect place to include this assassination attempt feature - it has all the dark alleyways, narrow backstreets, and huge block-by-block settlements that would have made it all the more exciting. Imagine walking in some dark Broker street at night, and some guy comes out of nowhere running and fires shotgun shells at you ? Yeah, who the f**k cares about shooting pigeons, seagulls and all that rubbish for achievements/trophies ? Certainly not me. Something like this is badly needed in GTA V.
