Even if V is half-landlocked, it'll still be amazing.
MrcTOtheJ
Well if there are planes I don't see Land Locking the map working to well, unless Rockstar just generates random desert and highway after a certain point. Like meson1 posted, it could work quite well, maybe even throw in a random town or two out there too so it dosen't seem to empty. Just have it so it saves the set up of the land as you go out there. But odds are it will just be endless ocean due to the fact that it's easier, no real reason to make random endless land besides making you feel as if you're not in the middle of nowhere, but the thing is, you'd feel that way in a vast randomized land scape too after awhile. Though I do admit cruising a Random road(s) though a huge desert would be kinda fun. But yeah the ocean thing is easier and works well enough, issues will arise if planes are blocked in my opinion, wouldn't fell right. If they do the infinate desert then I'll be ok with that too, for reasons I've, and others stated before.
urbanfire
I don't see how endless desert will work. We need to remember that endless ocean isn't as difficult to develop, since the water is flat and you can use repetitive textures over and over and still retain that authenticity of endless ocean. If R* is going for realism, then a huge amount of resources are going to be needed to make an endless desert look like a desert. But there's no such thing as an endless desert, as every km of desert looks unique and different to say the least. Flat yellow sand for miles might work with activision or ubisoft, but it isn't going to cut it for R*.

GTA III had a landlock Sort of but not really. rockstar said in the Q&A that they were attempting to make the work feel like it continued past Liberty Citywith the tunnel but it didn't go anywhere, there was a lighthouse but that's pretty well it.
