how is it unnatural? I daresay that 95% of all cities in the world are landlocked.

Id defiantly love to see a mountain range to the north, after you pass through all the mountains or fly over, its just regenerating patterns of trees, with wildlife such as wolf, bear, reptiles, deer etc. - to the west? Regenerating sea, as usual. To the east, never ending desert, and to the south more desert

it´s true, but the cities in gta not and we are speaking about gta not about real world.

What is the obsession with landlocking? GTA should never have any visible barriers to stop people from going too far it ruins the illusion of the gameworld.

The reason landlocking worked in RDR was due to the lack of planes and helicopters in that time which gave them a reasonable excuse to use it, however in a game like GTA epecially a modern day one I fully expect to be able to scale those mountains infact those hickers in the trailer should be a obvious hint that it will be posible to scale those vast mountains if not by climbing at least by plane or helicopter.

They should definitely stick to the ocean, perhaps if you go too far a storm begins which rapidly damages your plane/boat and the harsh waves would be an instakill for anyone that tries to bail from their vehicle.

For those who think having Los Santos just being surrounded by ocean will mess with the continuity of SA remember its a new era san fiero and Los venturas could now be a plane trip away in the 4/5 era problem solved.

I'd like to see your plane stall and crash at the mountains, forcing you down ith it to your death, or to parachute down, your parachute gets pushed back into the game area by strong winds.

I like the idea and it seems likely. Rockstar might make a set of higher and higher mountains but as you rise, the winds will get stronger and stronger, making you crash the plane and/or get pushed back to the map if in a parachute. In the trailer you could clearly see dynamic wind, I see this very likely.

I think GTA V should have the endless sea around the map...

BUT!

I should't ONLY have endless sea, by north and east of the map it should be instead of endless water (like in SA) endless desert.

Just make the endless desert have the same memory-use as endless water and it will be good for performance.

I know there is not only desert north and east for los angeles, but it is at least better then endless sea EVERYWHERE.

So this is what I want:

Endless sea on the west and south border while having endless desert(or a endless terrain that fits) on the east and north border.

I'd prefer it if you just die and go back to the hospital if you go to far out at sea or over the mountains

That thing only works in game like battlefield games, much because you are in constant war, and if you get outside of border, you get shoot/killed.

edit: could work south though...(mexico border)...?

You have to remember why Rockstar chose to make the maps of RDR, LA Noire and III (to an extent) landlocked.

It's all about the 'immersion', making the player feel as if they are in a setting that is a part of something much larger. For GTA III's Liberty City, the 'countryside' in the north of Shoreside Vale was intended to, in Rockstar's own words:

Why were the tunnels on Shoreside Vale blocked off? And where did they lead to?

Rockstar says:

There was never meant to be anything on the other end of the tunnel, we were just playing with ways to make the world feel like it continues past the physical boundary. It’s something that we’ve been pushing in all sorts of ways ever since, making the world you experience as a player feel like it’s part of something bigger. This tunnel was one of our first little baby steps in that direction.

Personally, the idea of infinite desert is a good one. We can have infinite water, so why not unlimited desert or grassland?

what was wrong with good old water-locking system?

it fitted gta iv and handled even the big state of san andreas well, so why should it be replaced now?

Simple! Make your plane turn back when reaching the limits. You don't need to make it crash to make it stop.

Remember that there's an invisible barrier in the sky even in GTA4, but helicopters don't crash at it, they just stop going higher.

It worked for Vice City.

they did that in Vice City and obviously rockstar didn't like so they changed it end less sea. In an open world game sky barriers work because it looks like you're going up while you're not, kinda like an illusion but having a barrier stopping you from moving forward wont have the same effect

An invisible barrier on land would feel weird, especially if there are views beyond the restriction. It will look and feel unnatural.

This was ok in GTA IV, because you can't use planes there (do you fly choppers as high as you fly planes...? nope).

Planes are in SA, and the skylimit there is BIG.

It was also possible to bypass the height limit with a single cheat.

They could just do like I mentioned on a similar thread. If you're on a plane, give an excuse like strong winds and make the plane turn slowly. If you're on boat (in case they want to block the water, although it's not needed), make some waves a little big and they'll do the same job.

The sky limit is big, but it still exists. Do you remember what happened to planes if you went too high?

If you include cheat, then there is no point off discussing this topic...

also, cheats may f*ck up your saves.

It was still better then the skylimit in other games.

But it would be cool with endless sky, but what happens with memory if this is inplented?

(man, if this issue is just as easy to fix like endless water...)

Well, San Andreas required bigger limits because otherwise faster planes would reach the limits too quickly.

If they wanted to add limits back to GTA4, they could do without problem. There are no planes you can use, and helicopters would simply stop when reaching the side limit, just like the sky.

And about memory, it would actually make the game run faster on those situations. It wouldn't need to load the city map when you get too far from it. lol.gif

Hmm... I'd rather have endless ocean one way and the other way some hills that if you get behind them you get shot down by the military... Yup.

So the best way would be this?:

endless ocean west and south

endless desert(terrain that fits the area) north and east

getting killed if going over mexico border(south-east)?
