Was it CJ or the customizations that you loved?

Wasn't much the character that people loved, but rather the game. If you got GTA San Andreas within a year or two that it came out, you'd be in complete awe at how brilliant that game was for its time. With such limited technology and disc space, it had one of (if not, the) biggest 3d maps on a video game, an amazingly large array of things to do, a great storyline, etc. It was just a "DAFUQ" moment.

The diverse map.

Whoa! I earned a "this" !! I think thats my first ever... NICE

Anyhow, I suppose we are forgetting one more important thing - the nostalgia factor..

i loved the personality of CJ , his story the customizations and all the stuff , gta sa offered the non-African-american players a chance to "live" in another way and somewhere else

Clothes were just painted on, the quality was very bad, very low resolution and all of them were pretty much ugly and the same.

You do realize it was 2004 right? Graphics back then look like sh*t.

On the other hand. I loved San Andreas. Say what you want but it allowed so much freedom. The customization for cars was what did it for me. The fat wasn't that annoying to me, it just made the game a little bit more realistic, same with the girlfriends, and muscle. What did you expect from territories? It's not gonna be a walk in the park like... Oh I got the territory, no one better attack it! C'mon. SA's story wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst either. IV was too movie-like. It didn't allow me to feel the freedom old GTA's had with the crazy cheats, and customization was piss poor, especially with cars. But on the other hand, the graphics blew pretty much all of us away. The story for IV got really boring for me at times, and the ending wasn't all that great. The EFLC helped to make the gameplay feel more free, more like past GTA's.

I never really even realised up until now, that CJ was one of the very few black protagonists in most games. I still don't like him to be honest, I didn't like any of that gang trash bullsh*t. But the environment was pure gold.

I am a little confused as to what you folks mean by the story?

To me, it was CJ returning to SA...(I'm sure you know why) and

restablishing himself in the "hood". He had to prove himself, solve

a murder, deal with cops, deal with the mafia...

I really didn't see much wrong with the story.

Basically the problem is that the story is so disconnected. It's like if you took Luke from Star Wars and put him in WWII. Yeah, it might be fun to dogfight Zeros in an X-wing, but would it make any sense?

Now, on that same line, without letting SA cloud your judgement, take an LA gangster and have him breaking into a secret military base by himself to steal something that logically doesn't exist in that world. Does that make any sense, really? How about that same person going on to be part owner of a casino?

On the other had, there are 3 decent, albeit disconnected, stories, one in each island. The problem is that they are so disconnected that CJ logically should not have been part of all of them, especially while on the run from the cops and while he was so concerned with what was happening with the Families.

GTA IV would have had the same issue, had they not separated the stories among 3 characters. Niko would not have run a club, and Johnny would not have dealt with the Russians. But had it been SA, Luis would have done it all.

A good story follows logic to move from point to point, and doesn't break the characters. A thug is gonna stay a thug, unless there is character development, and in that case they don't revert so quickly.

Sneakerhead.

I would have to say CJ, the customization, the soundtrack and SA-MP(This might not count) because in my opinion SA made VC and III alot more dated compared to SA when it comes to features.

Ok, VC has a good story and better gun sound effects.(The sound of the Ruger, Spaz and PSG-1 inlove.gif )

While III has the nostologia feeling (The story was a bit wierd in my opinion whatsthat.gif )

I liked some customizing options in GTA San Andreas, but some were too over the top like the pink afro and the joke glasses.

I mean, could you take Tony Montana from Scarface serious if he would look like Homey D. Clown?

VC had better graphics...vehicle destruction way better... A bigger map doesn't mean anything. The features in SA were and still are very badly done, also too simple. Nothing they wouldn't have acomplished when making VC.

Oh and the soundtrack in SA, not my taste at all except maybe K dst. Otherwise, the soundtrack hardly fit with the game. LS music maybe with the rap and k rose in countryside... But others no.

Ijust liked the map to be honest, I spent hours driving around the countryside trying to do difficult manouvers on rough terrain and also trying to drive the tankers around the difficult country roads. I dont personaly need the customisations or CJ just various terrains and a selection of cars and my mind will do the rest.

customisation, the diverse map.

if I wanted to go for a mountainbike race, I could.

if I wanted to go offroading in the forest, I could.

if I wanted to raid a military base, I could.

if I wanted to cruise in the cities and highways, I could.

if I wanted to do a mock dakar rally in the San Andreas desert, I could.

if I wanted to fly a jumbo jet into a building, I could.

if I wanted to do driveby's on enemy gangs, I could.

I know the gang life gameplay has been done, but I wouldn't mind seeing optional gang related games or missions, similar to San Andreas. it was kind of fun starting a small gang war against ballas.

I wasn't too keen on CJ, he seemed to goody goody for the gang life, he complained too much, and was whiny.

I did like the vehicle options though, and what I could do with them. (hook up a fuel tanker to a truck and plow down the highway, causing a big explosion would be fun, but can't remember if you could do that in San An. )

Had anyone else gotten this troll like message?

as good as SA was, CJ was a punk. He was such a moron. Cutsomising him was cool but especially the scene where they get that free garage in SF, he walks in then starts throwing a wobbley.

No i don't like CJ much. I don't hate him but I don't want him to return.

Even tommy who's my favourite III-era protag shouldnt return.

i imagine that you haven't better to do huh ? i'm watchin you for a good moment and your opinion don't surprise me since your are a troll née...

and like other people on the topic like miamivicecity and other you probably will never stop to trolling SA for every singles reasons.

your post demonstrate only what is the gta community today... full of garbage and troll no more soul and sympatie thanks for contributing to ruin's the community.

I don't mean to repost spam, and the user had been reported, I would just like to highlight how pathetic some people are that their opinions don't match others'

I stand by my answer that cj was a moron. but I feeli should elaborate and say that the customisation in SA was what did it for me. Cj wasn't a very good character IMO (he workings in the game but as a person he was terrible)

Funny. This person somehow has the courage to call me a troll in a random PM, but doesn't have the balls to say it to me directly. Whoever sent this message if you have a problem with me don't be a damn pussy about it running and hiding. confused.gif

I didn't realize an opinion was trolling though? I've given SA plenty of credit where it's due, but because I'm not a SA preacher I'm a "troll"?

God some people on this site need to get out more and embrace life.

For me it was definitely the huge, diverse map that made the game special. The story felt like a huge cross-country adventure that came full circle by the end.

The amount of features, vehicles, and activites were pretty good too, although some of the things you had to keep up with became increasingly annoying - weight, muscle, territories etc.

IV definitely felt more cinematic and had a movie-esque story, but the nature of the missions, and the lack of diversity in surroundings meant I was never inclined to play through again. BOGT was much more improved in this aspect, and they should build on this for V.

The customizing was great but CJ as a character just made no logical sense. He has absolutely no qualms about murdering thousands or even stealing a high tech jet from the military without even bothering to wear a ski mask to hide his identity, but he refused to smoke weed because drugs are bad? That's like a preschooler's understanding of morality

haha yeah.

And his attitude toward Cesar early on was strange. I think it was meant to show the rivalry between GSF and other gangs, but it just came off as ignorant racism.

"Whats your kid gonna be called, Leroy Hernandez?"

I like how he manages to be racist toward his own sister.

The game was good and i did enjoy it, but CJ, even though i still liked him, was a complete douche.

This was a PM I got when I bad mouthed CJ once a few years ago now -

How? CJ was a pussy that took orders from just about everyone.

Tommy is the only one who set himself up to work for himself, didn't take sh*t from anyone and he was also the biggest psychopath in the entire series.

Tommy hands down for me. Niko and Luis 2nd and 3rd.

a shut up asshole cj is much better than niko and luis lopez , luis and cj is so similar so stop critiquate cj asshole go back in afganistant motherf*cker and shut up .

The guy only ever made one post to the forums so his name doesnt matter.

But yeah, CJ fans are extreme.

For various reasons, he was the worst character in the series.

now that i thought about it after reading these posts... everyone is right San Andreas was a pretty sh*tty game... like yeah the good thing about it was the amount of things u could do but the story was cag and territories were annoying as hell i also didnt like the stats, driving skill and shooting skill was stupid. The only skills i think are acceptable are Sex appeal based on clothing and haircuts and Muscle based on physique.
