Was it CJ or the customizations that you loved?

Right from the moment we got to know that GTA V was under development, many began to argue that CJ will return, despite the desperate efforts of many knowledgeable persons to make them understand the right thing. Now, when MayLay confirmed that he is not associated with V, they began to argue that CJ will be back, but would be voiced by someone else. Under these circumstances, let me ask – was it CJ the protagonist that you loved or were it the customizations and the cool things he could do? I personally was excited with the latter. It would be acceptable for me if V had a protagonist who could do all those things. What about you?

I loved every single thing about Gta SA. The diversity of the map, the vehicles, the customisation. I'm so looking forward to Gta V

Oh, and the music... Everytime I happen to hear a song from that soundtrack it instantly sends me back.

like someone said, the diverse map defintely. and the soundtrack. customization was a nice little bonus too. I loved the airstrip and going from Los Santos to LV to AREA 69 then getting bum rushed by feds and what not.

Yeah the best personalities were the hillbillies, ah the good times were starting a fight with them, and stealing their tractors or combine harvesters. colgate.gif

Can I say neither? Quite frankly SA was the third worst GTA for me after London 61 and LCS. The only things I really liked about it were the vehicles. Planes and Bikes were awesome. However, the incoherent story, the constant nagging about fat, muscle, girlfriends, territories, the metric $#!^-ton of collectibles... This is supposed to be a third-person action shooter, not an RPG.

Basically, everything that III and VC had going for it, SA had going against it.

Now IV on the other hand was structured like a movie, all the pieces fit and when it was done, there was a nice full wrap up. That is what a story game is supposed to be about. Adding in TLaD just helped it sell the overall story better. BoGT was like that spinoff TV show though, it was good, but not really needed.

Now, this is all just the opinion of one man who loves a good cohesive story in all his games, so you'll have to forgive me if you don't agree.

CJ, the big diverse map and the large amounts of things to do after the story finishes. The entire game was the best they have made and it shows as being Rockstars best selling game. icon14.gif.

as good as SA was, CJ was a punk. He was such a moron. Cutsomising him was cool but especially the scene where they get that free garage in SF, he walks in then starts throwing a wobbley.

No i don't like CJ much. I don't hate him but I don't want him to return.

Even tommy who's my favourite III-era protag shouldnt return.

The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.

I have to agree wuth Jnzooger and others here, that SA wasn't a great game. To me the story was quite literally sh*t. It was badly done and didn't line up. The reason for everything you had to do wasn't there. The graphics were bad and textures really low res. What i really hated was that it wasnt as realistic as and well compromised as VC was. The cars didnt break at all almost. The map was terribly put together, they just like threw everything together. There were roads that were just poibtless and empty places in the cities that had no meaning. Vc map was built with care and everything suited well.

Of course a big map and lots of vehicles were nice but that was it.

I really hope nothing from SA comes to gta v. That would be just terrible.

The story was average, but the map, guns, cars( not the best handling, but decent), soundtrack and customisation made the game a classic for me.

If anything, the map made the game the success it is today. If V is just a city map with a small country side then i really do think it will not be as popular as SA.

This is supposed to be a third-person action shooter, not an RPG.

I wouldn't agree with that. Max Payne and Gears Of War are third-person action shooters. GTA is an action game set in an open world which you have the freedom to explore. I'd argue that collectables are appropriate to that style of game.

I'm with you on the weight, territories and girlfriend thing though.

I agree, fat, muscle, girlfriends and especially terratories made san andreas annoying as hell, I hope none of these come back, especially terratories.

Not so much as CJ that I liked, rather it was San Andreas (game) that I liked.

Why?

There was SO much you could do in it.

When San Andreas was still new, I thought it was the most amazing game ever, with its huge map and a variety of things to do. Just recently I decided to play it again and It's horrible compared to IV, I used to think it was the most realistic game ever lol!

Claiming the territories was fun.. but it was sortve annoying afterwards when you were supposed to defend them... especially when the story has moved on.

Well,I gotta it was just the variety of realism.

You could become skinny, fat or put on muscle.

The variety of foods to pick at a fast food,it had the realism touch to a open world game which I really loved. CJ was a pretty good protagonist but if I had to choose which is better, between CJ and Tommy Vercetti it would probably end up as a draw,in my opinion.

If GTA San Andreas's features were to return in V,I would like them to be adjusted a bit. Like say,we can eat when we want and not have our stomach rumbling and our health decreasing if we don't eat, that's what I think.

Overall,Brilliant Topic! cookie.gif

By the sound the negative opinions here, R* should just create an art piece for entertainment purposes with no replayability or diversity.

The GTA franchise is growing and evolving. They couldnt have gotten to the stage of IV without San Andreas. So just like with V, R* needs to have had experience with IV.

No one is saying that, people are just pointing out stuff that made San Andreas really annoying because you HAD to do them, you had no other options: territories, muscle, fat all that annoying stuff that you had to do as if you were playing sims or something.

Well this topic is going not going in the direction it was intended to go so I better shut up mercie_blink.gif

One thing more i don't like. The clothes. There were so many of them, seems like a good thing, but hell no. Clothes were just painted on, the quality was very bad, very low resolution and all of them were pretty much ugly and the same.

There werent that many options what to do IMO, and thse things were quite boring...except for casino stuff and gambling. That was ok.

For me it was the freedom, map, music, customisation, gang wars, burgalary missions ,feel & serious to wacky missions oh and the music. There was very little boring stuff to it, far less structured missions than IV - if you had a rocket launcher you could end the mission about 10 minutes earlier.

It was one of the first games where you truly could do what ever you wanted to.

Playing back through the game recently CJ/Ice Cube's voicing was terrible but after an hour of playing it you see past the poor graphics (they were good at the time) and everything else that isnt that good and I still think it's 10 times more fun than IV.

V needs to have everthing good from VC + SA + IV + RDR + TLAD + TBOGT + something extra to have the same impact that SA did.

Kind of like SA wouldn't have got to where it was without VC, GTA III and so on? Actually it's good to see people being honest as usually SA is overrated to the point where it's made out to be flawless.

I liked the diverse map, but as others have said the story was incredibly disjointed and I think RPG elements aren't really suited for GTA. Maybe that's why it has been seen since SA.

Overall I think it gets to a point of being boring like all GTAs do when you've played it enough.

I liked both CJ and the custom aspect of the game. I remember when I

first played SA...I was amazed. I found myself comparing other games

to it at the time, SA was the first game I had seen where you could

customize so much. The music was decent, although I will always favor

the VC soundtrack.

I am a little confused as to what you folks mean by the story?

To me, it was CJ returning to SA...(I'm sure you know why) and

restablishing himself in the "hood". He had to prove himself, solve

a murder, deal with cops, deal with the mafia...

I really didn't see much wrong with the story.

There was a vast selection of clothing, something I wish more GTA's had...

In fact, the only thing I complain about is that airplane mission...

where you had to fly through the rings. I hated that mission and

was overjoyed when I got past it.

As far as the Girlfriend thing, it wasn't too bad. I thought it was funny

if you ignore Denise, she calls the radio station...

(I don't know if the other girls do that too?) It's pretty easy, if you don't

want the GF's, don't do it...you only really have to do one in LV for the story anyways. My problem with them was the "dates" always feel incomplete.

Although I liked IV, I found Niko to be far too conflicted. He would complain about a life of crime, while doing crimes. I thought Roman was a little

more interesting.

it was the customising, trying to make him look less like CJ so we can be individually happy with the character.

When it comes to San Andreas, i liked the customization more then CJ. But what i liked most was the map and available activities, such as robbing houses etc.
