No Doubt about it. The easily did. But still. 3 million dollars worth of baseballs. When Lets be honest, you could probably play a game with 10 or less.

so while 3 million Dollars isn't that big of a deal to the MLB, its still a sh*t ton of money.

How many Soccer Balls are used in a game? I have no idea, but Im guessing around 5 or 6 at most?

I know why it was outlawed.

but it's the principle of the matter.

if some players are allowed to use the substance, all players should be allowed to use the substance. either everyone can use pine tar, or no one can use pine tar.

also, you're right.

the ball is changed about every 2.5 pitches. it's a non-issue anymore if it ever was to begin with.

Pine tar may affect the flight of the ball though, so it's not truly a non-issue.

I know this is kind of off track but pretty interesting.

There are 2,430 games per MLB Season

About 50 Baseballs are used per 9 inning baseball game.

That's 121,500 Baseballs used for the whole season.

at 15 dollars per baseball, that means MLB spends $1,822,500 on Baseballs per year.

Holy sh*t. That's not even including Playoffs, Spring Training or Batting Practice.

Its probably closer to $3,000,000.

Damn. A Yankee's Benchwarmer could buy enough baseballs for a few seasons of the entire MLB :p

But yeah I wouldn't mind seeing Pine Tar come back for pitchers. It would add an interesting dynamic to the game.

That's true also. Someone should do a study on it and see if it should be brought back.

I doubt they pay for every baseball if any. Rawlings probably gives them balls for free in exchange for being called "the official baseball for MLB". So when someone goes into a store looking for balls, do they want Wilson baseballs, or Rawlings, the same balls that Cabrera and Trout knock out of the park?

I understand that Its all sponsored and stuff. It doesn't change the fact that they use 3 mil worth of baseballs a year.

That video is great Johan. its fun to laugh at those people but if they did the same thing with SF Giants fans and Brian Wilson, I would have probably have done the same. I root against him now and he is not my favorite player ever, but if I met him I think I would react differently.

this has never really been proven....

That's why I said may ;)

To be honest it probably does affect the flight of the ball, but nowhere near as much as a scuff on the ball does.

With that in mind I would support a standardised pine tar rag or cloth that could be used to increase grip on the ball in certain conditions (I guess the rules for use would have to be standardised too, mandating no use when the weather is good).

The thing is that Brian Wilson plays for the Dodgers. A Giants player moving over to the Dodgers is different than A Yankees player playing for the Mariners. It's more like when Roger Clemens started playing for the Yankees.

I can't believe the Twins are above .500. There is a good shot they may be above .500 entering May if they can at least get one game against the Dodgers. which would be amazing.

I get the whole rivalry thing. But he did Help bring the Giants their first World Series in 50 years. So I will always like him for that.

But I hate him on the Dodgers and hope he fails with them. lol

gtamann123

Pretty sad that the Twins have fallen back below .500 and are now 5.5 GB when they were as close as 1 GB not that long ago. But the Tigers are just too damn good. Well at least Detroit has one thing to be happy about these days :p

Any Reds fans out there? I know we're not the largest fanbase outside of Cincy and Northern Ky, lol. I've followed the Reds since I was young, and they're also the closest team to me, at about 2 and a half hours away. I try to go to at least 1 game a year at GABP, but since tickets have went up i doubt i'll make it this year.

Pussy!

Well he shaved the beard. So that's pretty weird.

He still has this though??

Wow, damn Rockies are doing well this time of the year. Best offense in the league, hopefully it can last the whole year.

The Reds are cool. Its been a charm seeing them return to relavency recently. Considering they were the team to beat back in the day.

I'd love to see a renewal of the great Reds-Giants rivalry from the 60's and 70's. Perhaps if they contest for a couple of NLCS pennants in the years upcoming, but to do that the Reds need to get past St. Louis' massive bank account to stay competitive.

excuses, excuses.

money doesn't win baseball games.

the Reds should quit bellyaching and start playing better during the month of September...

I haven't been able to watch much baseball this year but the Orioles vs Astros game yesterday was good. Looked like the O's had it until the Astros came back in 9th inning. There was a rain delay before the last half inning, so I turned it off expecting a home loss. Then I read today they made a comeback after the delay finished, nice.

I don't have cable anymore so my only option to watch baseball is either online or watch the Cubs on WGN. So I really haven't watched too much baseball this year. That will change though in about a month when I get cable again.

we have MASN and MASN 2 here which cover all the O's and Nationals games

i know there also used to be a nice sports tracker where all the MLB games would be uploaded but it was taken down a while ago

2,700 balls for the Tigers, so 30(teams) * 2700 = 81,000 dozen balls and $7($84/dozen) per ball = $6.8mil or so per year :p

Nah, home runs, scuffs, foul balls, players tossing some into the fans. Definitely need 3-5 dozen a game

I don't understand the Rockies, 11 runs scored one day and basically shut out with 1 the next. STAY CONSISTENT!
