Earth Hour

It's a little on short notice and too late for some countries, but there's still time for most of the world to join this. Around the globe, at 8:30 PM in every time zone, the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) wants people to turn off all lights and electrical appliances for One hour (60 minutes). 5,251 cities participated in Earth Hour in 2011. In India, they are taking pictures of the night sky to show the difference in clarity without light pollution.

You can learn more about it here. I'm going to shut off my computer, tv and lights at 8:30 tonight for the hour, it won't make a long0term difference but it's worth doing anyway.Do you know of any earth hour activities in your area?

Will the Power shut down in the City or I will need to shut it down myself?

I'm pretty sure the city will need power in some areas, so you'll have to do it yourself. That doesn't mean shooting out the bulbs in the streetlamps outside your house.

I'm in work tonight, and I need power for what I'm doing. Even if I wasn't in work, what, you expect me to masturbate by candlelight? Who do you think I am, Thomas Jefferson?

Is it wired not to go with the flow?

I'm no Power Plant specialist, but surely the sudden power surge of everybody turning everything back on at the same time after the hour would cause such a surge that the energy needed to power the surge would probably be more than the power that would have been used during the hour anyway.

So it's a bit t*ts on a Nun really.

This is the absolute truth, In this 4 year recession period, I went a full month with no power, I couldn't pay that month, so I relied on BATTERY power, it can get you by on a number of things around the house

Every hour should be Earth hour.

Anyway I'm going to be working at 8:30 and while working I will either be walking the streets or driving around so I won't be using any electrical appliances at all. Except a car maybe.

I'll be in the pub. Turning the lights out for an hour wouldn't end well for anyone involved.

Was at work until now, so we couldn't turn the lights on - was f*cking busy too. Now I'm home and all I have on is my bedroom light, oh and the downstairs bathroom fan for the condensation from the shower. Give it another 20 minutes until I'm hungry and I'll be turning about 4 lights on to get to the kitchen. Its a nice idea, would be great to see the satellite pictures from a normal day until tonight.

I could care less about Earth hour to be perfectly honest, no offense to you guys or anything. But the light on my ceiling fan burned out, and I don't have any of the halogen replacement bulbs for it, and it takes some kind of bulb that I can only get online, so I guess I have no choice but to participate, lol.

Earth Hour? All I care about is Youtube keeping it's lovely black skin. f*ck websites with blinding white backgrounds.

But not really, I genuinely agree with the sentiment, I'm just lazy.

YouTube should definitely keep that option all throughout, not just for Earth Hour. It's a cool feature.

Participate!

My family took part in this.

But with lights out it was dark so we lit a bon fire and burnt the old tyres to keep it light and warm.
