El Dildo
I disagree completely. this is genius sh/t South Park is doing. after like 15 years they're turning the series on its head once again. everyone just expects another typical season but Matt Stone and Trey Parker aren't satisfied with merely resting on their laurels. they're actively doing something very creative to try and keep the show fresh. there's a consistent theme they've carried through the first 3 episodes and I hope it only continues to build on that foundation. have you noticed that the story is staying intact? usually the plot is thrown out immediately at the end of the episode and next week everything 'resets' for a brand new topic. but this seasons it seems like they're trying to tell an actual story instead of just putting their social messages around some fart jokes. they're actually trying to do some long-form character development with storylines that are interconnected. like a season of Walking Dead or some other more serious show. I think it's freakin' great so far. another bold move from the guys who literally broke the mold. Smith John
Good to see the show is still going. The last series I watched was back in 2011 when I thought Parker was gonna call it a day through that 'you're getting old' episode. That two part episode was not only f*cking hilarious, but a pure accurate description of how the older you get, everything from the younger generation seems sh*te, hence, my title. Seriously though, loving this series so far; I like how they're continuing a theme throughout the season whilst giving each episode its own little story. Kinda reminds me of something...I can't think what... But yeah, this scene from PC Principal is...yeah... I f*cking love South Park! DeeperRed
Love continual story of this season. South Park was getting stagnet, needed a big change up. The new characters as well are great for the most part. The adverts in the City Part of Town episode were hands down the funniest things South Parks done in years. So on point I was in tears. The whole meta joke about the city wok guy being out dated in the new times was amazing, then following it up with the child labour gag just completed it. Faith in South Park has fully been restored. It's not Scott Tenerman Must Die, Red sleigh down, Awesome-o levels but at least it's fresh, and most of all, funny. El Dildo
El Dildo
I dunno how much people realize it yet, but the things that South Park is doing with season 19 here are revolutionary. especially so for anyone who has been following the show since the beginning. Trey Parker and Matt Stone could have so easily just sat back and rested on their laurels at this point. Emmys, Oscars, Tonys. they've got all the awards and all the praise for their comedic and satirical genius but they're still not content with just doing the same old thing. they want to be heard and they have real statements to make about the direction of our culture and our society. instead of just going through the motions and maintaining the old South Park formula, they're actively turning the show on its head and reinventing their own playbook. it's pretty amazing really. http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/22/best-south-park-season It’s been a long time since we talked about South Park as a TV show. As an institution, sure. Trey Parker and Matt Stone took Comedy Central mainstream in 1997, and they’ve outlasted all the network’s ensuing zeitgeists: Jon Stewart, Dave Chappelle, Stephen Colbert, Key & Peele, soon Amy Schumer, maybe Tosh someday. In 2013, the show downshifted to a 10-episode-yearly schedule: a shorter season, but also maybe just the new normal for cable. They’re contracted through 2019. ... South Park is six episodes into its 19th season. When I say this is the best South Park season in a decade, I don’t mean South Park is emerging from a creative dry spell, or that these are the six best episodes ever. We’re coming up on the 10th anniversary of “Trapped in the Closet,” an activist triumph that still influences how the culture talks about Scientology. “Britney’s New Look” is one of the best things anyone has ever said about how America treats pop stars. The two-part “Cartoon Wars” remains the definitive word on Family Guy. Every single thing that happens in “Fishsticks” is hilarious — even funnier now that nobody remembers Carlos Mencia. But it’s never really made sense to view South Park as a “season” kind of show. That has changed, gradually and suddenly. After the occasional dalliance with serialized two- and three-parters, season 18 quietly built several running story arcs toward the finale. Last season also saw technology as a central topic. That may have been an accident: When I talked to Parker a couple months ago, he admitted to feeling a little bemused looking back over last season. “Every show had this running theme: We can’t keep up anymore,” he said. ... Maybe that’s why, starting with the season 19 premiere, South Park has launched a sustained world-rebuilding narrative arc that doubles as a satire of the new wave of PC outrage. Political correctness isn’t a new target for South Park — you could argue it is the target — but what’s new is how the show keeps rooting its comedy in the larger changes underpinning its little mountain town. Ivan1997GTA
Having watched all of season 19, I thought it was pretty good by South Park standards, but that 3-parter... holy crap was that stupid! So, what? The PC Principal & Leslie were ads all along that had taken human form and the PC frat was all just a plan to exterminate humanity? Matt & Trey must have been seriously running low on ideas. I know that they have written some wacky sh*t in this show before, but this takes the cake in terms of absurdity! Plus, that ending where the Wholefoods supermarket flies away was a huge deus ex machina. On the plus side, though, these last 3 episodes made me appreciate Adblock more than I have already, and I'd be lying my ass off if I said I didn't enjoy the 3-parter. I really loved how the PC Principal killed Leslie. While the first 7 episodes were great, I think these last 3 episodes were a bit lackluster, IMO. "Sponsored Content", "Truth and Advertising" & "PC Principal: Final Justice" to South Park are what Wishology was to the Fairly OddParents (which is a coincidence, considering that in Latin America, FOP & South Park share a lot of voice actors, but I digress). I mean, think about it, in my very honest opinion, those 3 episodes of South Park & the 3 parts of the Wishology ("The Big Beginning", "The Exciting Middle Part" & "The Final Ending") both don't hold a candle to the respective franchises compared to the movies that came before, (i.e. Bigger, Longer & Uncut + the Imaginationland trilogy in South Park & Abra-Catastrophe + Channel Chasers in the Fairly OddParents).
