73duster
I know that it's a different era in the GTA series, but i think it would be great to see ties to the original San Andreas. I'd like to see older versions of CJ or the hippie. I'd also like to see how Grove street looks today. It would be interesting to see the houses gone and replaced by highrises, but keeping that familiar cul de sac street shape we remember. Again, i'm only talking about periodic trips down memory lane, like showing whats become of CJ. Is he a legitimate business owner? Is he in prison? Is he a homeless drug addict? Maybe the Hippie is a drug councelor, or an activist fighting big corporations. The game IS supposed to be representing the current state of the economy, so him leading some sort of occupy wall street movement would'nt be a stretch. He should be between 50 and 55 years old.

Vormek
I don't want to see any characters returning (It will never happen I know) but what I do want to see are references. Like in a few missions you will hear your boss saying something like " I remember twenty years ago, this place was a hell hole. Riots, drugs, corrupt police officers. Today things are settling down but I see how the streets are slowly going back to its roots". You know what I mean right? Simple and small references like that really puts a smile to my face. Remember the mission in Las Venturas where CJ and Rosenberg are at some meat factory I think and Rosenberg mentions something about Tommy Vercetti and "good ol' times" and CJ replies "Who the f*** is Tommy?". Aaaah man, I laughed so hard. And even though I don't want any old characters making a return it would be nice to have some characters RELATED to some of the old characters which we haven't seen or heard about in previous games. Like the brother of Big Smoke or something. You would do missions for him and he would often speak about Big Smoke and how greed got him killed and how some old friend killed him. Buffalo Soldier
I want the whole of Los Santos to have the same sort of structure. I mean Jefferson, Idle Wood, Glenn Park, Ganton - I couldn't give a flying f*ck if Rockstar make the map bigger and add new locations and stuff in, but It will annoy me to see Ganton renamed and Los Santos bearing no resemblance to it's 2004 counterpart at all. It was fine when they did it to GTA IV, I honestly didn't play that much attention to the original liberty city anyway - but for San Andreas I want them to keep some elements the same. I want to see Grove Street just located somewhere in Los Santos - so we can go to it and just take it all in, it'll be brilliant to see a revived version of Grove. If I can have anything in GTA 5 that's what I want - to see Grove Street, just for the memories and stuff. And if Rockstar are still sticking to this 'It's a different universe' bollocks - then even if they simply have a few 'GROVE STREET FAMILIES 4 LYFE' or 'ROLLIN' HEIGHTS BALLAS!' tags still plastered on the walls from 20 Years ago, that would be a great little reference. R* said its a different "universe" so he wont make a return I know about the whole different universe thing, but i don't see why small references to the old San Andreas would hurt. Nobody is advocating that these things play a central part in the game, but simply pop up throughout the game, or while roaming around. If Rockstar is so adamant in keeping the past in the past, then why bother going back to Los Santos? They could easily have gone anywhere else to create GTAV's environment. bluesboyjr
I don't see why we shouldn't get a few little callbacks. GTA is just a video game after all, so the whole "universe" thing is only to establish that what happens storywise in the GTA III Era games is unrelated to whatever happens in the HD games. Rockstar is free to bend that as much or as little as they want. I'd be surprised NOT to see several little references that serve as easter eggs. Pedestrians vaguely referring to the events of GTA SA, some really old GSF graffiti hidden away somewhere, maybe even a long-abandoned house that looks strikingly reminiscent of the Johnson place (maybe even the whole cul-de-sac)? Things like that shouldn't change how the "universes" lie - not everything's canonicity has to be in black and white. As long as there's nothing too explicit, like actually meeting CJ or the other characters, it'd be fine as long as some people don't take it too seriously and start dissecting the games like it was The Catcher In The Rye. What if, on the in-game television, they advertise some sort of 'Boys N Da Hood'-style film that's made up of cutscenes from GTA SA? That'd really f*ck with people's minds... The two Los Santoses will both share plenty of similar-looking areas, seeing as unlike III's Liberty City they're both satirising one real-world place. However, I wouldn't hold your hopes up for them having the same names - we've already seen that Verona Beach (Venice in real life LA) is now Vespucci Beach. Death2Drugs
Compared to most threads, this isn't junk. I'm sure we'll likely see some references to GTA: San Andreas. We've seen a lot of III era references in IV. So why not? Also, I'd like to see some references to other games from R*. For example, in a graveyard (perhaps modeled after the Inglewood Park Cemetery) we see a grave dedicated to "Officer C. Phillips", a reference to L.A. Noire. I Am Jeff Terry
Different universes my arse, did anyone notcie that CJ was skydving over Los Santos on TV (lifestyles of the rich and famous parody) in GTA4. CJ is also on one of the posters for "Fruntalot" it also says something about the CONCRETE JUNGLE (concrete jungle = CJ) From what I've SEEN in my copy of GTA4, CJ exists and he is a rich, influential and successful business owner/former gangster in San Andreas...
