An Easter egg is something hidden within the game world that, unlike secrets, Rockstar Games actually intended players to find. They usually have no effect on gameplay, their only purpose being amusement. A good example would be a the large beating heart found within the Statue of Happiness in Grand Theft Auto IV, which is only accessible by landing on top of the statue's pedestal via helicopter and walking through a non-solid door (suitably marked with a plaque saying "No Hidden Content This Way"). That is from GRAND THEFT WIKI; more reliable than GTA Wikia. @Rodney, nod to you People will take you more seriously if it's from Grand Theft Wiki. "Hidden in the game world". CHECK. If you didn't point it out for us, I'd never have found that f*cker. "Intended players to find it." CHECK. Oh look! OG Loc. LOLz. "They usually have no effect on gameplay" CHECK. This did what to my character again? Or the story? The final outcome was changed because of this because why? "Their only purpose is for amusement". CHECK. Got a kick out of seeing OG Loc again. The fight between people who believe in universe continuity and people who believe in different universes are like two bald guys fighting for a hairbrush. Put this in your head for once, doesn't matter if you believe in same universe or not: YOU WON'T SEE RETURNING CHARACTERS!!! You can only see OG Loc, Madd Dogg, Love Fist, James Pedeaston, Lazlow (the character, not the real guy behind him) until today because they are famous in GTA world, and so well known among everyone (AKA "pedestrians"). You, player, only know everyone - from Claude to Niko, from Bubba to Luis, from the Loonies to the Grove Street Families - because you put yourself in the shoes of that time and place protagonist... but THEY DON'T KNOW EACH OTHER. The protagonists are only small time criminals that, after doing something big (AKA "last mission"), remains anonymous because probably aren't caught by police, never (canonically speaking). Well, Negro is the spanish word for Black. It's not really an insult. As far as I can see he's not speaking Spanish. In America the way it was used, its kind of offensive now. They'll have different names, stories and dress codes, but fill the "feuding street gang" niche. It'll be like how it was in GTA IV - there's Triads, Yardies and black street gangs, but you can tell that they're not the exact same gangs as the ones in GTA III. We definitely won't have a Grove Street Families, that's for sure, if only for the reason that there won't be a Grove Street: the city is being redesigned from the ground up and split up in different ways to GTA SA's Los Santos - we've already seen how the Venice, LA stand-in in GTA V is called Vespucci Beach, not Verona eBeach. Ok, so let's say that the characters in the game had lives of their own, like Toy Story (stick with me here). Niko would find the OG Loc cd and be like, "who is this guy?" Then let's say he spends hours searching for him on the internet. He would never find an answer to who OG Loc is, because in his world, OG Loc doesn't exist. All the peds and characters in the game could get together and do a deep investigation and never find an ounce of information on him whatsoever. OG Loc only exists in the III universe and to us the players. The cd is there for our own amusement. Same for the CJ advertisement, etc. Just how I personally see easter eggs though. Which, as I explained, can happen because while OG Loc doesn't exist in GTA IV's universe, his minor impact on GTA's pop culture does. It's complicated. Also, the fact that it appeared in a cutscene doesn't change the fact that it's an easter egg. Your attention wasn't drawn to it, it was only a prop in the background. ALL of the CDs that can be found in GTA IV are from previous games: there's your OG Loc and Madd Dogg CDs, there's a Rochell'le CD from a GTA SA teaser website, there's a few CDs that were advertised in GTA LCS as being by the fictional bands on Lips 106 and Head Radio, and there's two CDs that were advertised in Manhunt 2. These references to previous games are there because some Rockstar developers thought that players would find them funny. It's like the large building in Dukes that is covered in the artwork from III, VC and SA, and that was shown in GTA IV's second trailer. Do El Burro and 8-Ball exist in GTA IV's universe? How would that work - did someone they knew just decide to stick their faces on a building? Just because something's easy to find, doesn't mean it doesn't share the same purpose as an easter egg. Also, regardless of whoever wrote the articles, they were on Rockstar's official site, so they have to be approved by Rockstar. They don't just let some junior PR guy make stuff up and call it canon. Grand Theft Auto is a work of fiction - it doesn't all have to work on a realistic level. How does the Statue of Happiness's heart beat? The fact that they put the CD in the Bohan apartment proves that it was "intended to be found" otherwise "Roman's Sorrow" never would have come up or even happened. True. But literally, the CD had no effect on the game. It was just there. Radio stations have an effect on the game SOMETIMES. they recap the news of your events. Advertisments actually had the option to call them by leaving a phone number, so a slight effect. Websites had an effect. Most of them were for interactive purposes. Actually it doesn't. If "Roman's Sorrow" never happened, Rockstar would just place the CD in any other place they wanted to. The CD did not define the safehouse. If the CD wasn't there, there would still be the Bohan safehouse. I'm just stating the criteria for what an Easter Egg consists of. True, most stuff put in GTA is for our amusement. If you are referring to the CD, I watched that same video and could not even make out where the f*ck the CD was. If you are going to use that, then you are going to have to use something better. If you didn't tell me, I never would have seen it. Which means it's a littl tougher to find than normal. Everyone wants to believe what happens in a game. Not to be a stickler for details, but I believe R* said there's a 2D universe, 3D universe, and an HD universe. This would imply IV and V are part of the same HD universe. The fact that they are both present day suggests they are also the same era. So, I would only expect to see characters from IV, not SA. Damn... I've become a universe theorist.
