leik oh em jeez!

Just give it a rest with going around and posting duplicate topic links. You're just fighting a lost cause. If there is a topic about the same thing on the same page, well, go ahead and link them, but in the case you gave, that topic had it's last post over a month ago which means it's probably on like page 25 by now.

That's generally what I do, but then people use the excuse "well his topic was only for talking about his specific idea, my topic is about my idea blah blah blah, ur not a mod, f*ck off"

That's the exact reason I created the topic, to rid people of that excuse. Now there's a topic for the discussion of ANY idea relating to the protagonist.

Though it seems that the only reason post in the protagonist topics is to argue with the OP about why they're wrong. I guess I gave them nothing to argue about which is why my topic fell back so many pages even with new topics about the protagonist popping up everyday.

To say it's a lost cause seems quite counterproductive to me. The only reason they do it is because they have no reason not to. If a reminder was given the first time, and verbal warnings after that, I bet we'd see a lot less repeat topics.

When you're freelance, you can be your own boss. Hence, my confusion at forum members who want to play as a gangbanger. Independence is so much more badass than being part of some gay street fraternity that mindlessly rivals some other gay street fraternity.

Honest Bill

Personally i'd like to start off as a freelancer. That way you are not limited in which gangs you can work for, and it woud present them an opportunity to bring back a much more sophisticated version of the respect system from GTA2.

The story could see us playing many factions against each other, just like Claude in the GTA2 intro movie. and it would give us great freedom of choice

Perhaps using a mask would be a good way to perform actions without affecting the respect of particular gangs towards you (Just like in Red Dead Redemption)

Then once you become respected enough, you decide to form your own gang and take over

It'd be a huge waste of time making a game in the gang capital of America and not playing as a gangsta.

I'm sorry, but I don't think V is going to be about gangstas. That was San Andreas' theme. They could do so much more with Los Santos instead of focussing on gangs. That was the 90's anyway... V is present day.

There are way more hispanic gangs than black gangs now than there were back in the day. Stop acting like you know L.A, you would have to live here to understand why you are seriously wrong mob boy. That's like saying GTA IV shouldn't have been based around mafias.

Not only are there more hispanic gangs, but the variety of gang cultures has increased as well.

And who said the game had to be about gangs? The protag could be a former gang member getting into more high-end work.

Freelance and then work your way into running your own game would be the best IMO.

But just freelancing would be fine by me, I've allways prefered the Freelance, gun for hire feel over being part of a Gang or Mob.

Mob boy? lol, you're such a f*cking tool.

All I said was San Andreas already had a "gangsta" theme. Hispanic gangs are "gangstas" as well (they were also in San Andreas. herpa derp). I never said anything about black gangs. A gang is a gang, no matter the ethnicity. While I guarantee there WILL be gangs in V (because that's part of LA's culture... this I know you f*cking dumb cock sucker), I highly doubt they will be the theme of the game, because like I said, it was already the theme of San Andreas.

It's time for a different perspective of Los Santos. icon14.gif

It's hard to be serious though when some people are just seriously ignorant.

Yeah.. "some" People on the internet can be annoying sometimes, but you can always ignore them you know..

On Topic: if the Hispanic guy (most likely IMO) is the protagonist then he will probably be a gangmember , on the other hand if its the balcony guy as the protag he will be a freelancer

If you want change, then switch out your tamp-ons, you have no reason to be exclaiming over something so stupid. San Andreas was about a gang leader, not a former gang member. The hig-end work starts at the beginning of the game. You don't start off fighting Ballas, you probably start off taking it easy, and then something comes up and the missions start to get deeper and deeper.

And again mobs were both part of III and IV, why the hell wouldn't there be heavy gang involvement at the beginning of V? Every city has it's crime groups. Miami, drug cartels, New York, mobs, and Los Angeles, gangs, and this time it's Los Angeles, so gangs.

As far as crime goes, NYC is synonymous with organized crime such as various mafias, while LA is synonymous with street gangs. A game that portrays LA and doesn't feature street gangs (especially Hispanic ones now) as the main focus isn't capturing the true identity of LA crime.

Honest Bill

There is no doubt that street gangs will feature prominently in the game, but that doesn't necessarily mean that our protagonist has to belong to one. I'd say it looks more llikely that we are in professional robber's crew.

We will of course, have various dealings with street gangs, both black and hispanic. It is also quite likely that we will have friends who are in street gangs, so we will still get to do all the stuff that is synonymous with LA gangs, such as drive by shootings in south central and that sort of thing.

It would be impossible for them to have the game set in Los Santos, and not have all this trademark criminal activity.

Personally, i think it would be nice if they delved much deeper in to it than they did in San Andreas. I'd like to see the reality of it a little more, like the brutal initiations, home made weapons, old feuds and gang networks.

I completely agree with this post. I'm not one of the desperate people who thinks that the protagonist is the Hispanic guy in the car. It's pretty obvious that the older man on the balcony is the protagonist, or at least one of multiple protagonists. However, V still needs to display gangs prominently in order to capture the true identity of LA, and I do believe that it is possible to achieve this while still having a non-ganger member protagonist.

Of course gangs will be in V. I'm not stupid. I'm just saying that I don't want them to be the MAIN focus like they were in San Andreas. Don't you guys want to see Los Santos from a different perspective other than a gang member's?

I would argue that the mafia was the main focus in IV, being that it was based in a city that parodied NYC. Nearly every mission we completed pertained to the mafia in some way. Yet, Niko wasn't actually a member of those any of those mafias.

Similarly, the protagonist doesn't actually have to be a gang member if the main theme is gangs. He can be like Niko and choose to interact with them, and in reality, he'll be forced to interact with them if the game is realistic, since there are no major crime-causing groups in LA besides gangs. Of course, this is assuming R* made a realistic parody of LA, which I sure hope they did. It would be a travesty to see any type of mafia (other than the Mexican one that is based in many of California's prisons) having extensive influence in LA.

The way I see it, if its gang-related it would be hispanic like you said. Cartels would be cool. Probably not the mob, they aren't really as big in LA (right?). I hope its freelance though. And centered around heists, and assassinations, and big jobs like that. That would be cool. Especially heists.

I definitely agree with this. And I stated this before, if Rockstar place any heavy focus on the Mafia in GTA V that would be quite unrealistic and frankly a tad unbelievable.

I do hope that guy on the balcony is not the protagonist though, I wont lie!

I don't think R* wants to piss off people by letting you participate in gang-violence. I'd like to see a freelance criminal with no real affiliation like in IV.

I know the theme of V is money, but I really hope drug cartels play as big a part as the mafia did in IV.
