HeNDo6750
We already have that, its called Blu-Ray which holds between 25GB to 50Gb one disc, maybe even more by now, and is for the PS3 and latest PC's and Laptops only and not for Xbox 360 There is atleast another year before the PS4 and Xbox720 at minimum and not before. So don't panic until then (2013-2014)
Slamman
Microsoft is more likely to think in PC terms, using SSD, I really believe they could do what Sony has done with choice of delivery systems, making them very cost efficient, that's what Sony has REALLY realistically done with BD

Slamman
How GTA V relates to a non physical media possibility I assume is the reasoning, however, not really related, since bringing out a new Xbox or PS3 means studios like Rockstar won't be first release software studios, They NEVER work that fast, and supposedly not biased to one system or another, I think GTA IV proved a costly development, that meant partnering with Microsoft to aid in cost, assuring some quality DLC, since few can argue their merit
ll rdny ll
They're not saying that there won't be a DVD/BR drive in the new console. They're saying there won't be a HDD. Instead, they will have memory cards. It was confusing at first, but I'm fairly certain that's what they're talking about. I hope its not DD only. I bought LOST Via Domus from the Marketplace for $20, then went to Gamestop and saw the game new for $10 with the disc/manual/everything... What the hell is so special about the Digital version that makes it cost more? But the whole argument is moot, seeing as how GTA V will be a current gen release, not Next-Gen
ballsdeep30
Used game market's already shot with the online pass system though, retailers are going bankrupt, EA/Acti/THQ want rid of used games completely and the rest of the industry hasn't really got a choice You want used games buy on amazon. They include online passes I only paid 20 bucks for Battlefield 3 Not in Europe, again, over here the used market's shot GAME (pretty much bankrupt) now won't take PS3 titles. I tried to trade in a brand new, unopened, unused FIFA 12 boxed copy. I got told 'Sorry, but we can't take used games now' They won't take PC games ('Piracy' concerns), or PS2 games (which is the largest used game market per console in the UK). Also Slamman, I'm out of work yet I prefer PC gaming for one key reason: Modding. Looking at my TV with the SEN store up, let's see, FIFA 12 is £60. I can buy it on PC, direct download from Origin, for....£45.

Sure some publishers require a pass which more often than not WILL not deter the trading of games.. You can still get a second hand game plus pass for ten quid cheaper than full price so to me it doesn't affect me buying second hand nor does it stop me renting from lovefilm ect. That said though... It's pretty stupid to charge to play online when Sony themselves don't charge for the PSN.. 90% of publishers will continue to not charge imo.. EA and the likes are money grabbing bastards plain and simple.. People will only take that for so long.
Isuck100%
I don't think it will be downloadable games only, as 3/5 of the world's population doesn't have a high speed internet connection. I personally won't be able to dnwnload a 25 GB games, and so for 50% of people who will own an Xbox 720. Huge money loss if Microsoft does this. Like he said, it is highly unlikely that GTA V will be download only. Not everybody has high speed broadband internet. Also, it is more convinient to purchase GTA V from a shop, rather than downloading it off the web. It takes time to download, whereas if you walk into a shop to purchase it, it only takes a minute or two. rockstar is not stupid. Rockstar knows that they will have lots of angry fans and loss of money if they make GTA V a download only game. But microsoft are They see me trolling... AtomicPunk
If Microsoft does 'download only' then it will be the end of XBOX and to be quite honest, I say good because they are figuring out ways to reach even deeper into gamers pockets. As if $60 bucks for the game isn't already enough! Microsoft has gone the way of Israeli. And who are they to tell me that I cannot buy a used version of a game? So now we are to drop full price for some joke of a game? I lost all respect for Microsoft loooong ago and if they do this then I say good riddance. Quit giving parasites like this buisness and they will go away.

Its next gen for Pretendo, and is more powerfull then PS3 or 360. It says in it that games won't be put on discs anymore and will be put on some sort of solid state storage. (Similar to what the PSVita has done) Nowhere does it state that it would be all digital. Anyways it's all rumours at this stage.

Inncognitoo
You guys do know that the xbox360 automatically updates its disc drives to carry more memory capacity? MIKON8ERISBACK
People aren't gonna just abandon physical storage mediums like that. Imagine if your HDD fails, and you have no program data disk to re install on a new HDD without buying a new copy? The idea of people moving away from physical storage media is just retarded. In order to appreciate the full greatness of a game when you first get your eager hands on it, you need lay your eyes on it, feel it, smell it, and read the printed synopsis on the packaging. The packaging for NES and SNES games have already become antiques, even without the game itself inside.
jnzooger
@rodneythesavior: WiiU is NextGen the same way that the 360 was NextGen to the PS2 and that PS2 was NextGen to the SNES. Just cause it comes out before the other consoles of the Gen doesn't mean its not part of it. It's still an 8th Generation console. Also, the article is talking about physical media for game consoles, aka optical discs. If it were talking about hard disk drives, it would be spelling it "disk", not "disc". You guys do know that the xbox360 automatically updates its disc drives to carry more memory capacity? We shouldn't be that worried about it. by the time V comes out, there won't be any issues with memory problems. You do know that all they did was remove a required section of data on the disc to free up more space right? The physical disc and disc drive are still only Dual-Layer DVD. They still only have a maximum size of 8.5GB. People aren't gonna just abandon physical storage mediums like that. Imagine if your HDD fails, and you have no program data disk to re install on a new HDD without buying a new copy? The idea of people moving away from physical storage media is just retarded. Slamman
Strange as it maybe, I saw this same rumored report on the official TECHSPOT website, I think they're suggesting there's SOME truth, but I don't think it will be completely DISC-LESS, it will be ODD less in favor of SSD, or Flash drive, USB, etc, maybe even USB3 if we're lucky!? I think it will have to support more then an online model, but there were already rumors of a 2 SKU tier for Xbox buyers, and one is geared as a set-top box with Kinect a heavy accessory option, if not mandatory
