thatstupidbug
Everyone knows that sometimes a game is relased multiple times in different version, and in every version there are some changes. You can find changes between version of different consoles, or even between version of the same consoles but there's something that i've never understand: what is the "real" version of a game? Tommy has killed "gang lords" or cubans? there are tear gas granades in VC? Claude was chased by the Mafia or FBI? the extra missions, or objects, or even buildings that exists in one version but not in another are "canon"? i know, maybe this whole topic is a little bit nerdy PS: and what about beta versions? if the beta explain something that is NOT in-game (for example, the whole relation between tommy and mercedes was cut, so in game there is a minor plot-holes), it still exist? LoveMediaExecutive
I suspect the original release is the true canon for the game, the only reason the Cuban and Haitan thing was cut is because of complaints from Haitans about their portrayal in the game, the GTA 3 thing baffles me a bit because it worked really well the first time, you kill Salvatore Leone and the Leone family stations spies around Staunton prepping for a possible war, you wipe the floor with them and I'm guessing they finally realize that the Yakuza could squash what's left of their crumbling family. I kind of wonder if they got some complaints from a mafia family or something who might have taken issue with this? Maybe a mob family thought the Leones were based on them? Although in GTA IV all the mob families were directly based on real-life counterparts but at this point Rockstar is very rich and I doubt the mob could muscle a big corporation like Rockstar. As far as side quests, side quests pretty much exist outside of the main story so those aren't what you'd call canon. Beta isn't canon because if it's not in the final product that hits store shelves, it technically doesn't exist. So if you want to see the intended version, track down the original pressings with full programs on them, I'm not sure how it was for overseas countries but for the U.S. they would be the original "blacktop" Playstation 2 releases, if you live overseas check out somewhere which version was released first and hope it wasn't censored or altered before being launched in your country.
