It might be the most successful one, but there has been a few before it. Besides, the word "clone" seems rude. Many of the modern crime sandbox games try to follow in the footsteps of R* instead of "stealing" their work. Anyways, I'd say Scarface: The World is Yours is by far one of the best crime sandbox games out there. Too bad it didn't get much attention (probably due to being mainly sixth generation release when most developers were moving on to seventh generation consoles). Driver 1, did most of what GTA 3 did. So it should technicaly be Driver clone. And yea, it is unfair. These Devs do a hard job same as rockstar does. Rockstar is no babe in the woods. Mass Effect has roads and you play as a human, what a f*cking rip-off. Baldur's Gate you can walk through the streets, such a rip-off. Formula Racing you drive in a car, what a f*cking clone. Looney Tunes Basketball, you play basketball like Big Smoke does in GTA San Andreas, what a f*cking clone, jesus christ, and the same goes for NBA games, why didn't Rockstar sue them.
