thats one thing i didn't like about GTA 4. The police knew your where abouts instantly. LIke once I got a a single cop in Niko's flat so beat him to death not using any weapons. but even though i was in a flat and used no weapons that make a sound. I still got 3 stars and the rest of the police knew where i was.

Also, if the police lose sight of you (still have a wanted level) if your quick enough to get into another vehicle then your wanted level should decrease, as the police would not be looking for the vehicle you have just stolen.

I have to agree and say that I hope the cops are more "human" in that they don't automatically hone in on your position on their first try. If you've ever attempted to escape a large wanted level on foot, you probably know how exhilirating it feels to know that the cops can't see you, yet they are running around everywhere trying to search you, with a helicopter buzzing above you, and patrol vehicles wailing around you. For example, with a 5-star wanted level, I was on foot and hiding behind a tree next to an intersection. Next thing I know, a small convoy of wailing cop cars passes on by in formation, but they don't see me! I want to see that more often in the next game.

Well, I do know that if you committed a crime on the streets, and pan the camera around, you would see a Ped get on the phone and actually call the police. It was a bit unrealistic but wasn't annoying, seeing as how they search the area instead coming to your exact spot.

Not as bad as in Driver series or saints row series. SOMEHOW, even if you have a faster car, the police ALWAYS catch up to you. Its very annoying. Turned me away from the driver series cause it was so bad. The only driver i can still play, is the underrated Driver 3, Which i adore. I use to play Driver 1 and 2 on PS1 before i played GTA 3 for the first time, have good memories of them, cant play them anymore though. I cant play Driver PL cause it sucks, and Driver Sanfransisco is HORRIBLE and you cant leave your car anymore. I still play Saints Row 1 and 2, but not 3. 3 sucked big donkey.. you know.

Yeah it's called rubber band AI. I think it's a really stupid way of trying to make chases last longer. But i don't think GTA has ever had it. On topic though, i hate how the police constantly know where you are. I think you should be able to loose your wanted by staying out of the police's vision for a while.

Actually, GTA does use a type of rubberbanding when you are chasing someone. The "someone" will vary their speed depending on how close you are to them. If they are far away, and you're on the verge of losing them, they slow down. If you're "up their ass" (proverbially speaking), they find a sudden amazing burst of speed.

When you're being chased by the cops, their top speed is influenced by the wanted level. If there is any rubberbanding going on, it must be fairly subtle or well implemented. But usually cops simply spawn ahead of you, which makes sense, because they'd coordinate over the radio to head you off.

If there is a problem in GTA, it's that the cops (or any other pursuers, or any fellow racers if you're racing) can't corner. They go too fast to make the turn and go all over the place. It makes it easy to get away by driving round a few corners in a relatively conservative manner.
