I'm fairly certain I already know the outcome of this poll. Majority will say they want to see the map before the game is released.

Yesterday, I would have been one of those people. But, now I'm hoping they don't reveal the whole map until the game is out on shelves.

Here's why:

Imagine that feeling you would get if you went out and purchased GTA V, not knowing what the map was going to look like. You go through the Credit screens, then the loading screen, then the opening cutscene. Finally you're playing the game. You pause, and go to the map. wow.gif

I want to experience that feeling, the realization that the map is WAY bigger than what Rockstar had shown us. Knowing that eventually I'll be able to explore the map, in all it's glory.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the map is not as big as Dan Houser is making it out to be, but I'm going to avoid any and all Map-related posts/updates just in case.

I want to see the whole map in its glory when I boot up the game. What fun is it seeing the map before owning the game? It would be no fun. Besides, they've never done that before anyways.

Oh, I thought they released the silhouette of Liberty City in IV. That's basically the same thing to me.

Maybe they did, and I'm just wrong. I personally don't remember them releasing maps prior to release. Lol.

With GTA games in the past I've always looked at the map that comes in the case - espescially with GTA IV having to install is spent that time looking at the map and tha always hilarious manual

The silohette of the IV map didn't spoil it for me, I opened up IV and was amazed with the Map and couldn't wait to start combing through and picking up on my brand new homeland!

But, I agree with the OP, I don't want the full map to be released but if its leaked I know for sure I will end up looking at it, sad truth.

Anyone who says they won't look before release is lying, or dreaming!

Ideally, I'd love to wait until I start it up myself, but I like to know what I'm going into and spending big bucks on. I don't want to set myself up for disappointment, because you do realise there is a chance the map will be smaller than you are hoping. First everybody thought Liberty City was big, then the idea of redoing Vice City was a dream... then slowly and slowly our anticipation for the next game map is getting bigger and bigger - don't be surprised if it's just a city with a few beaches and some shrubs on the outer edges of the map. Then an unpassable mountain (like in the trailer) on all sides.

I always thought that it would be incredible to start a GTA game knowing absolutely nothing about it. Most games should be that way because if they are good it will travel by word of mouth. If R* suddenly drops GTA in May or somewhere around there without releasing anything else about V I would be proud to be a GTA fan. It would truly be an exciting gaming moment for me. Discovering the map without knowing anything about it. A lot of games used to be like that back in the eighties.....god I'm gettin' old.

I wish, they'd just magically put the games out on the shelves without telling anyone and make a surprise release. Everything in the game bar the location would be a total surprise! biggrin.gif

I'll do like I did for RDR and GTAIV. As the game is loading up I'll open up the paper map that comes with the game, and take a quick overview of the entire map. I'll try and guess where on the map the protag will start and by then it'll be time to pick up the controller cool.gif

I won't be looking at any "leaked" stuff because I'm not that impatient. Chances are I'll forget about the game completely once I can preorder and a final release date is confirmed.

I'd like to know what the map is as soon as possible. In fact, i think it's the most important aspect of the game. If anything, they should keep the story under wraps, and let us find out what it's about when we start playing for the first time.

I love surprises and the sense of discovery.

I hope they don't show the map itself in any trailer or press release or anything.

show characters, show gameplay, show a little story, but not the map.

Every GTA I buy the first thing I do is have a look at the physical map, but it doesn't really spoil anything. In the case of GTA V I think R* will showcase LS like they did with LC in GTA IV, but they probably wont dive too much into the surrounding areas.

If I remember Alderney was never shown in any of GTA IV's trailers.

IV's map was never revealed before release, but the subway map was leaked like a few days before.

I want to see the map when I open my game and unfold the paper map. Yeah, they will have it!

Same thing happens with Fallout. Never looked at the map before playing the game so I was amazed at the sheer size of F3's map!

I accidentally voted that I wanted to see the map before buying, because I just realized the same thing. It'll be hard to not see it before it comes out, or before I buy it, but I'll try to not see it.

I am actually in this same dillema, since a few weeks ago. I am a hardcore forumite. I tell my friends the info they desire because typically, I'm one of the first people to find out.

But I've been thinking of something very hard, risky, but rewarding. I want to try to eventually quit these forums (until gta6 news) and avoid all info everywhere, and just preorder the game, pick it up, and play it. I've imagined the feeling numerous times, and on every occasion it feels GREAT! However, there are some problems/setbacks to this "Fast":

-Chances are I won't stop visiting this website. It's the first thing I go on when I turn my computer on.

-My friends and peers alike will probaly spill the beans out loud, whether talking to me or not.

-I will be just TOO curious, and end up visiting the newswire.

So it's pretty hard, but if I can't do it, I'll just attempt what the OP is doing and that is to just avoid map info.

I ain't even going to lie to myself by saying I'd rather wait. I'm getting my eyes on that map as soon as I have the chance, whether it's through a leak or if R* reveals it themselves, whichever happens first.

No option for unfolding the map from the box?

Thats better than the pause menu view for first time imo

Anyways if it was leaked before release id probably look as curiosity would get the better of me but nothin beats unfolding the map for the first time then spending an hour tryna remember all the correct folds :L

I want to see the printed map too.

I want it to be like the past few times... I'd have bought the game but have other stuff to do before I get home. So I'd be reading every bit of information in the booklets and studying the map supplied to keep my excitement at bay (or build on it even!) til I get home. Then first thing I'd do is dump everything and start installing the game.

Even if I did want to wait, temptation would probably beat me to it.
