After watching time and time again Vice City Beta Mods start with large goals and aiming high only to fail I have decided it was about time someone actually make some decent beta content that gets released, so the main goal of Vice Beta Collection is not to make a full beta recreation but only certain content that is actually possible and also to release the mod in stages, so as to not drag out releases for months and months while waiting for different parts to be finished, when one certain aspect is finished, it is released, which will hopefully over time slowly build up a small collection of Beta content to release a kinda Beta Mini Mod.

Below is my first progress picture, it is not much but I am moving in the right direction, also there is a Birds Eye view of the Beta Map I am basing the Airport changes on, it differs in some ways to the map at Sunshine Autos but the layout is still similar.

Progress Report (No.2)

 

The base is slowly forming for the Runway, I will have to remap some of the UV's and perhaps clean up the models but my main goal for now is to get a base formed and then put the Runway down.

Progress Report (No.3)

 

Alright the runway is now complete I have matched it to the tiny bit that was left by R* and going by the LOD Beta Map now I have a little bit to the left of the Runway to Model, I believe that could have been a small terminal or some other sort of building. Any ideas about it?

Anyone got ideas what could be done with this area, or what buildings are supposed to be there, I can see that something is meant to be there.

 

It looks to me as if there is roads running alongside the Runway leading to a Building at the end there.

The Ghost tower is actually a old clocktower, i have a old clocktower picture of what it (may) be, i also made one.

Also, that's just concrete. Not roads. and that dark grey bit above the white is water.

By Roads, I was meaning basically what you have said as different concrete, they would not put proper roads or anything in that part of the Airport, but I was meaning that is the Path that Vehicles would take.

 

I was actually wondering what to put in the White area it looks like it is supposed to be some buildings or something there, I highly doubt that the white is sand or something like that.

 

A Clock tower..... I dont think it is a clock tower, Going by the location and all it would most likely be a Control or Radio tower like they Have at Airports. What makes you think it is a clock tower?

Am I being dim? Was there beta versions? Is there like a complete map etc? wow.gif

Only some pics and some videos, when they were working on the game. There are alot of differences between Beta and Final. There's a video on youtube called ''GTA Vice City Beta(Complete)'' correct me if i'm wrong smile.gif

Progress Report (No.4)

 

I have made a small bit of progress on the final bits of the Tarmac, but I cant complete it until I decide what to do with what looks like a building at the right side of it, so to take my mind of it and still do some work I decided to make my own Radio Tower out of the already existing Control tower, I will try and add a few things and perhaps some 2DFX like flashing lights to the Antenna when it is in game, overall for a quick bodge up it has turned out great.

 

I was thinking that perhaps I will take the Large building from the Military Base and just change it around a bit and use that as the filler for the Mystery Building, it is most likely the best option.

It's crappy i know, but i'm a newbie to 3ds max. I started modelling in 3ds max a few days back XD

@Mandog, nice attempt, you only get better at 3DS the more you use it so we can expect great models from you in the future, your not Hijacking the topic I asked for peoples Input and there opinions and that is what you gave, but dont you agree that a clock tower does not suit it for where it is placed.

Progress Report (No.5)

 

I am now on the Home Stretch, I have made a Filler Building for the Block at the end of the Path, now I just have to finish the Path and what goes next to the Path, Then it is Break Up the Model, and Export for MooMapping then In Game Testing.

ALMOST610, you better to alter the tower as it looks when you see its lod
. Just add some windows under the roof leave the color as it must have(grey). Of course you can do some details else if you choose version i've showed.

I think I will leave it as is, if you look at some of the surrounding LODS that get loaded with the Tower they use that same texture being that Creamy colour despite the real models looking completely different it was most likely just a filler Texture they used.

Yeah well done, good work there.

 

Adding patches of dirt/grime to the whole ground area and adding airplane wheel skidmarks on the actual runway would add detail too, stairs-on-wheels and more grounded planes too. icon14.gif

 

Edit: Ah ok, good plan to get the whole base to match the LOD first.
