The_Majestic
I see a lot of comments on this site saying things like "there isn't enough time to promote GTA V for a 2012 release"... In fact, the general consensus on this board seems to be swaying towards a 2013 release. I think you are all forgetting something however...GTA V doesn't need a 6-8 months to promote the game. GTA V is not Max Payne 3. It generated record views for the first trailer. More than any other GTA game ever by a large margin. They can release one trailer in April/May and then another in August/September and release the game in October and sell a TON of copies. The game promotes itself. The first trailer opened up a world of possibilities and was trending on Twitter in 3 separate categories. A 2012 release is not only probable it's a near certainty in my book. The only thing that would derail this was if the game was delayed.
TrialzGTAS
Right, and maybe (in my opinion) that Rstar is trying to break there usual GTA and big game scedhule to keep us guessing quite honestly. They want us to guess, not predict.

CorneliusCoffin
I agree with you that GTA is a series that doesn't need extensive promotion. But that doesn't mean it's not going to happen anyway. The calculation is simple. Without promotion, GTA's sales are going to be off the hook. With promotion they're going to be off the hook+1. So why not go for it? That's corporate thinking. HeNDo6750
All GTA V needs now is a 2nd trailer with part of the storyline, platforms (which we already know) and release date. No need for 6 + months of marketing, and like some people have said, our guesses are the marketing. Many months of marketing is a waste of money, and more of peoples time in my book, and a 1 month of marketing is just right
IBONEgta
As a teen i used to get most of my game's around Christmas by relying on my mum to buy them for me, so i honestly don't know why all or most games are released October too December. Yes they might be in competition with each other, but i think it's one time of year your most likely to buy multiple games.
GTA-King
They've never gone this long without giving more info on a GTA. So my guess is their trying out a new marketing strategy.

Gtaghost22
Not everybody thinks its a 2013 release on this forum, honestly i think its a very late 2012 release (i.e november, december)
SheHePaedo
I doubt we will get a trailer in April/May due to MP3, this month maybe and then RS will be in full promotion mode for MP. But If we don't get a release date before the end of June, sadly I think we are looking at 2013.

unknowngtafan
IF the xbox 720 is coming out next year in october as rumoured, i think GTA V HAS To hit dhelves this year. With a new console coming out, the hype for that along with the games all coming out for that means there will be less money to put on other games for other platforms such as GTA. Many games are announced at E3 and come out later that year, GTA V was announced in november,. plenty of time to get a campaign going from june-october. V 9 L U K 3 4 V
Realistically they most likely will release it December/January time. They will promote this game they have to they can't just give you another trailer then BAM there it is. They have to build it up allot then release it n that usually takes a good half a year at least n knowing rockstar they will delay it

They want us to guess, not predict. Exactly They have been promoting by releasing nothing for months. All of our wild guesses and predictions further the marketing for the game. Nothing = Free promotion? What a load of bollocks. All this proves is that if you create a vacuum of information, someone will come along and fill the void with bullsh*t. Remember that we here on this forum are quite close to the goings on of GTA:V. We talk about it all the time. That's what we're here for. But there are millions of people in the world that don't know anything about GTA:V. People who don't know that they want to buy the game until a marketing campaign tells them that they want to. No. If you've invested $100m in developing a product, there is not a snowball's chance in hell that any half decent business going to take a gamble that it'll sell itself. What they'll do is market the crap out of it, just like any other product to guarantee that it'll sell. It's common sense. The history of business is littered with products that failed to sell disastrously because of skimping on marketing. The numbers of products whose sales went through the roof in spite of only the minimum of promotion you can probably count on the fingers of one hand. Look. Rockstar's promotional strategy is relatively straightforward. If you look at the way they have marketed previous titles, you'll see that the main marketing push starts around three months before the release of any given product. That's all they need. Before that three month window they might drip feed odd bits and pieces (such as trailers etc) into the public domain, but there's no particular schedule to this. But at a point some three months prior to release, they let loose with a full blown balls-to-the-wall advertising campaign. If they are aiming for a Fall 2012 release and they decide they can meet such a date, you can probably expect a concerted marketing push to start in earnest in July or August. So yes, there is more than enough time to market GTA:V for a fall 2012 release.
CorneliusCoffin
They've never gone this long without giving more info on a GTA. So my guess is their trying out a new marketing strategy. I disagree. GTA IV was initially announced at E3 in May 2006, with a planned release for October 2007. (source: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/706/706217p1.html) The first trailer for GTA IV came out almost a year later in March 2007. It was followed by two more trailers, one in June, the other one in december, before an April 2008 release was finally announced in January of that same year. HeNDo6750
If people don't know what GTA is, then where have you been for the past 15 years. In those 15 years, GTA has grown from a small franchise into a massive success worldwide, which everyone knows what it is about. GTA V doesn't need tons of marketing as people know about it from III onwards. If R* spend months of marketing just for GTA V, then all they will get out from is wasted time, which instead can have more time with future DLC. R* knows this and is changing their old marketing strategy for a new and update marketing strategy to save a bit of money and time. It's not so much about knowledge of the GTA series as it is about convincing people that if they just buy one game this or next year or whenever it is that it comes out, then GTA V needs to be it. With your argumentation, Coca-Cola wouldn't need marketing, because everyone around the world knows Coca-Cola. The truth, however, is that hardly anyone spends more budget on marketing than Coca Cola. Because they feel they constantly need to remind people that they're the hip brand, they're the best tasting coke that's out there. And so far that's worked for them. Chunkyman
This notion that Rockstar doesn't need to heavily market GTA V is silly. Coca-Cola, Call of Duty, Mustangs, Ipods, etc, are all very popular and also rely very heavily on marketing in order to promote sells. GTA games aren't a magical exception of the need to market a product.
HeNDo6750
GTA V will be released in 2012 (which people know and not 2013). But when exactly is unknown. But think about this GTA IV released 29th APRIL 2008 EFLC for XBOX360 released 29th OCTOBER 2009 EFLC for PS3 and PC released 16th APRIL 2010 GTA IV COMPLETE EDITION released 29th OCTOBER 2010 GTA V APRIL 2012? See the pattern since 2008 to now. And if GTA V was released in April 2012, then it would be the best time as it would be the start of fiscal 2013 and will rake in the most money, same with IV at the start of fiscal 2009 Edited March 9, 2012 by HeNDo6750
CheesyJ
There's plenty of time for them to promote and have a 2012 release, however I think it's definitely to late for a release in the next few months, which many originally thought might happen. I do think that we may be waiting till 2013 though for the game.
