sven1122666
I have got myself a nasty crash problem in Gta IV and I was hoping some of you could help me out. When I start shooting in-game my game crashes randomly. Sometimes I can go and play for like an hour straight shooting everything around me and sometimes it crashes after 5 minutes of shooting. It is shooting related because when I don`t shoot and just walk or drive around the game works fine. So when I shoot someone there`s a fifty-fifty chance that my game freezes just as i press the button. The game freezes on the screen and you can see the muzzleflash of the gun and the person getting hit. Then it just crashes to desktop. I was thinking this may have something to do with the physics because its whenever I shoot someone and hit them then the game crashes to desktop. I have tried several things but nothing works and there wasn`t anything I could find on the internet. I run some mods and also weapon mods but the crash also happens without mods so that can`t be the cause. Here is some info on my system. Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.60Ghz Ram: 8gb Video card: Nvidia GT120 I have the latest drivers for my hardware. Please reply and if you need more information about my pc just ask and I will give it.
mkey82
Are you quite sure you removed all the modified files? As things are now, I'm 97.5% sure this is a mod related problem. You should uninstall the game, remove the install folder manually, reinstall and then try starting a new game, just in case something happened with the savegame. I deleted the games + all the folders that were remaining. Then downloaded the game again(steam). It was completely new nothing of the mods were left in place. mkey82
Sorry, but I really have no idea what could be causing this. Two farfetched options would be to defragment your drive (fragmentation is know to cause some really silly issues) and to verify the file integrity from Steam options, some people got the game working properly only after doing that check. Done both already. Sadly didn`t work but I`m gonna check the data files. Maybe something within the weapons settings or ped settings that`s causing this. Was going to study those anyway since I`m a game design student but I thought it would be handy if anybody knew instantly or had this before. If I find something usefull I will post it here so if somebody has the same issue. Too bad nobody knew right away but atleast thanks for your help. YankeesPwnMets
Do you know how to dual boot? If so, install another copy of Windows 7 on another partition (make it at least 25GB) and then install the game. Maybe its just something wrong with your current OS

Maybe its just something wrong with your current OS That would be really strange since it worked before but after a time it suddenly started to do this. Maybe it`s been an driver update that`s causing this problem. If so I will have to live with it because I don`t have the time to go and find out which driver it was. And I also need the latest drivers for my game development. I will dig through the data files some more and I already found out that the blood textures aren`t causing this but most data files seem okay and my os is working fine for everything else so it would be a really weird thing. ahh... Rockstar learn to program normally -.-
