I don't really know what's realistic for the first 2 weeks of sales for any ordinary game, so I took a stab in the dark and went for 10,000,000, which I think is realistic for a game of GTA's size and stature in the video gaming industry.

GTA V will be the best selling game in 2012!! I predict it will sell something between 7-12 millions in the first two weeks.. btw GTA V will crush the next call of duty in sales!

OTHER- about 20 million

Modern warfare 3 Sold 6.4 million copies in the first 24 hours

I think GTA5 has the potential to reach 10million in the first 24 hours

especially if it comes to WiiU as well

I hope GTA5 crushes call of duty even though I prefer treyarch's offerings compares to the disembowled infinity wards!

Whoever answered 100m is f*cking stupid. GTA V will not break any CoD sales record either. CoD has too big of a following now and as has been said a lot already... the majority of GTA fans also buy CoD but the opposite is not true.

Agree with above, 100 Mil is f*cking stupid, as well as 10 Mil, it will be around 1 million or 2, or least Half million, It wont reach 100 million, not even for 2 or 5. But how do you know it won't break CoD record? Maybe it WILL? Edited by lol232

Half a million copies sold in the first 2 weeks? GTA V would sell that amount in it's first 2 hours on the shelves. Any new game would do that in it's first week.

It'll probably sell a lot in the first 2 weeks. Def multiple millions but MW3 right now has the entertainment media sales record as far as I know. Theres a lot more CoD fans than there are GTA fans simply because there hasn't been a GTA game in years. CoD is "new" every November and they always sell a lot. Everyone I know who has GTA IV also buys CoD. However, everyone I know who has CoD games does not have GTA IV or plan on buying GTA V. Its just simple stats. For GTA V to break CoD's sales records they'll need to put in serious promotion and give people who like the fast paced, get right into the action type gameplay in CoD, a reason to buy it.

In terms of promotion, GTA never seems to have a lot of proper marketing. They have features and adverts in Game mags and often will be on the news for controversy before release but I have rarely seen TV adverts or anything. From what I can remember I saw maybe one for VC, none for SA and only a couple for IV.

Two things to say.

Firstly, I presume that figure you're asking us to predict are GLOBAL sales as opposed to sales in any particular territory.

Secondly, for a bit of perspective: the highest selling game thus far is the record breaking COD MW3 which sold 6.5 million units in the first 24 hours in the US and UK territories combined. It went on to accumulate 12 million units globally after the first week. I can't find a figure for sales after 2 weeks.

In contrast, last September 2011, Take Two revealed that GTA:IV had sold 22 million copies globally at that time.

So, this is something to bear in mind when deciding on a figure.

Sadly the poll isn't granular enough in the most likely range, which is between 10 million and 50 million. I've chosen 10 million on the poll, but it's more likely to be between 12.5 and 17.5 million units. This is reasonable given the install base of PS3 and XBOX 360 owners is larger since GTA:IV came out in 2008.

Also the time of year of release could have a massive influence on the rate of sales. I'm guessing that October and November are likely to yield the most sales what with their being in the run up to Christmas. Of course it remains to be seen if Rockstar can meet this sort of a date this year.

Over 5 millions.. and after a few months probably around 15 mio.

It's nearly impossible that V will break the MW3 record with over 6 mio sales in the first 24 hours.

But maybe it can break the overall sales of any COD (over 25 mio). IV and San Andreas both have been sold over 20 mio copies (each game, of course) since release.

I say 5 million. GTA isn't as high profile as CoD, even if it's much better.

GTA V will CRUSH the next call of duty in sales.. I wont be surprised if GTA V sold 20 millions in the first month!

The Wallet Inspector

So amusing watching a forum that (rightly) mocks Pachter, banging rocks together and shrieking out numbers with absolutely no idea of what they mean.

I THINK IT'LL SELL NINE COPIES IN THE FIRST WEEK

PERHAPS EVEN MORE THAN NINE

NO

WHAT'S THE RECORD FOR THE FASTEST SELLING GAME IN WEEK ONE? OKAY, DOUBLE THAT

What's the record for the fastest selling game in week one? Okay, double that.

That is at least a more reasoned method of coming up with a figure than a lot of the finger-in-the-air and rose-tinted-overly-optimistic pronouncements that many people are coming out with (which with all due respect, they can do if they want.)

But! ...

... sales stats tend to manifest themselves as a curve over time. They start out with massive initial sales as a result of pre-orders, fanatic queuing outside games shops at midnight and generally people just buying it as soon as it's out. The curve climbs steeply early on and flattens out over time.

The fastest selling game, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, sold 6.5 million units in just two territories in the first 24 hours. But it took the rest of the week to reach 12 million units globally.

So I don't think a straight doubling of week one sales will get you figures over two weeks.

But at least you have a starting point. It lays out the dimensions of the proverbial ball park, which would be somewhere between 12 million units and 24 million units. You'd be on your way to a decent guess.
