The Made Man
There wasn't even a 5 family cosa nostra or commission in the 3 era. Yea but the gist of it all was the same, things only tightened up a little and became much more realistic in IV In GTA 3, not at all. But in lcs, they tried to expand of the 3 families a bit. How were they so different? it's still the somewhat stereotypical mafia thing, just with different names and more depth in IV Um GTA IV had a more realistic view of the real life NYC mafia families. 3 era liberty city was barely based of NYC. The sindacco family wasn't even from LC, but LV. There is no mafia family in nyc that's from Los Vegas. The only game in the 3 era that tried to go in depth with the mafia families was LCS. Um, you basically just repeated what I already questioned. The gist of the mafia remains the same through different gta universes with varying degrees of realism. I was trying to make a comparison with how the mafia transcends universes in different forms so it wouldn't be too far fetched for ls street gangs to do the same, albeit with more realism and maybe a few minor changes in history or name My bad. Trideez
Probably a dumb question but what does [defunct] mean? Defunct adjective 1. no longer in effect or use; not operating or functioning: a defunct law; a defunct organization. 2. no longer in existence; dead; extinct: a defunct person; a defunct tribe of Indians. Secura
So it's a bet on what colour clothing the gangs in GTA V will be wearing? It's basically a bet that R* will continue using "Famlies and Ballas" instead of "Bloods and Crips" and purple and green instead of red and blue. THIS IS WHAT THE BET BETWEEN ME AND TRIDEEZ IS ABOUT! This topic is your opinion about what gangs will return, if any, in GTA V. Also, we go over a discussion of each gang that is posted. The biggest discussion right now is that of the Families and the Ballas returning to V. If it's about gang discussion fine. OT: Anybody else think It'd be pretty cool to see Kenny Peterovic in the game, living out his days as a Russian godfather in LA. I can just imagine it him, still completely stricken by his own sons death and driven to the brink of insanity due to a hefty drug addiction and the fact he feels that his right hand man is conspiring against him ( He could be right ) and if you do choose the off him it might have similar outcomes and rewards to killing playboy or dwayne Perhaps you could unlock Tommy's outfit Anyway I just think it'd be cool to see the ongoing repercussions some of the choices you made in IV, having Peterovic in the game may also cause some hilarity, with him going half insane he could have underwear parties with Yousuf and task you to do some crazy OTT missions. Another gang member or last remaining member of said gang I'd like to see return of Angie Pegorino who's trying to restart the gang in LA with Phil Bell. I mean trying to restart the Pegorino's would be pretty cool considering you spent half of the last game destroying them. Lastly but not leastly I'd like to see the return off would be the Irish Mob This would be the most probable of my speculations considering we saw packie getting on a west bound flight at the end of TBOGT Didn't think of a good way to end this post so CHEESE FOR EVERYBODY! SGT. Johnson
Remember from Vice City, well theres a golf course as seen in the trailer. These gais could be some suris dudes Leaf Links Golfers (not a true gang) TBH, I have no idea why R* classed them as a gang. To me, they were just senior citizens who would help out each other. The only thing that would make them be thought of as a gang was the fact they drove the same vehicle, had one location where they always spawned, and of course carried weapons (golf clubs ). However, nice job bringing these guys up. OT: I'd hate to bring this up but, would we get any type of GAY gangs such as the White Stallions Biker gang form VCS? Well unfortunately, the Sindaccos are a III-era gang. Plus, they pretty much lost all influence in Liberty City in GTA III, so they wouldn't have been around much longer. GTA SA happened in the 1990s; according to the timeline, the Sindaccos were a very powerful gang with influence in both Las Ventauras and Liberty City around the 1990s; this power however, slowly declined due to the events of LCS, and the death of Paulie Sindacco. By the time GTA III comes around, which took place in the 2000s (10 years after the events of LCS), the Sindaccos lost a lot of power, they were basically defunct by the time of GTA III. What I said before was actually the Forellis. My bad.

SGT. Johnson
LCS was only 3 years before GTA 3 Whatever; the point is that it came before GTA III, which was when the Sindaccos were in power. When GTA III started, due to the events of LCS, the Sindaccos were either defunct or disbanned.
samyG
I know none of you want to hear this but I don't believe any of the gangs there were featured in GTA:SA will be present in GTA V. Why would they? Why not bring about something new? Let's look at it like this, in LA you have the Bloods, Crips, Hoover Criminal, 18th St, Surenos, MS-13, and a sh*t ton of other gangs mainly being Mexican/Hispanic (though they all represent sureno/La Eme.). Most, if not all the Bloods/Piru are cool with eachother, not alot of conflict with each other. Crip on Crip violence is centerfold. With crips, there are many different crip gangs and crip alliances such as the N-Hood, Rolling, and Gangster Crip alliances. There are hundreds of Mexican gangs, all of which tend to not like one another outside of the Prison setting. So what GTA V needs to do is reflect this in the new game. 2 different black gangs with different sets and alliances who fight each other and mexican gangs that run in between them and fight among themselves as well as the black gangs (racial conflicts). Who knows what these gangs will be called. Aside from the black gangs it won't really matter. I just kinda hope they do in the matter as I described, lol. A perfectly logical answer Prepare for Trideez's counter arguement. What SamyG said sounds like EXACTLY what I want. Many many different Crip sets, many Bloods sets, many Mexican sets etc. The Crips and Bloods already exist in Rockstar's world, they're called the Families and Ballas. I don't know why anyone would think anything different. They are BRANDS. And brands carry through the "universes" according to Rockstar. They are also BACKGROUND CHARACTERS in and of themselves and they also carry through the "universes".
GarrowsKai
Maybe this'll end it. In GTAIII Liberty City you had three Mafia families. Leone, Sindacco and Foerelli. In IV Liberty City you had five Mafia families. Pavano, Lupisella, Gambetti, Messina and Ancelotti, and then the Alderney family Pegorino. So Trideez, if the Families and Ballas are background characters and brands, then surely the Mafia families must also be background characters and brands, so why did the three families from III-era not carry over into the IV-era? It's not a logical answer. And here is the counter to it. It's quite simple. GTA III's Liberty City is not the same place as IV's Liberty City. They are two TOTALLY seperate places. Dan Houser said that III's LC was NEVER meant to be New York City. It's obvious that it's not NYC. It's no real place, it's a generic American city. IV's Liberty City on the other hand was Rockstar's version of NYC. So there's your answer. Liberty City, III and Liberty City, IV are to totally different places just like Portland, Maine and Portlan Oregon are, they only share the name. HOWEVER, both Los Santos III AND Los Santos V are meant to be LOS ANGELES.
