ramarar
I have a 256 kbps dsl connection on a desktop with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, 2 GB Ram. I changed my DNS to google public DNS, the 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 one. My internet speed improved with this but after two days it suddenly slowed down. I use IDM to download files. After changing DNS my speed was about 40 to 70 kbs but after two days it became 10 to 30 kbs. Can anyone help me gain back that speed. I don't want to buy any other plan as this one allows unlimited downloading while others don't allow unlimited downloading
Slamman
Whenever I encounter router issues, I unplug the CAT cable from the laptop or desktop, reconnect and see if anything helps, the next step is turning the router off and on again (pausing for a minute I believe), if the basics like these aren't working, complain, call 'em up and declare the issues you're having, I feel you're within your rights to see just what max speed you should be getting at least, and let them know you're dissatisfied. Or did the speedtest show you as slower? What other internet plans are available to you? What country are you in?
radioman
You should definitely upgrade to Cable internet-it is a lot faster than DSL and about the same price..Plus, even with the lowest package, you get 1mbps download/384kbps upload speeds-and with the highest package, you get 28mbps download and 5mbps upload speeds. For example, I have Cable internet(the Preferred Package), and get up to 18mbps download/2mbps speeds-this is the best option for downloading music, videos, playing online games, uploading pictures and videos, etc. Plus, another thing, is Cable internet has recently had an increase in speeds..So, this would be the best option, in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Slamman
The simplest approach really, and it could always work out that way for ya, however, digging into the settings can be off-putting to some non Tech types
