FloRzoniTe
Michael Hunter - Soviet Connection one of the best soundtracks of the whole Grand Theft Auto Series. But i think even GTA V will not be better than SA and VC.. they had the best music and i dont think anything can be better in future. Of course, at TLaD and BoGT we had new music at Vladivostok FM or something like that, it was "pop" or whatever but i listened to it (something from David Guetta also) and after playin a lot i liked it. I also liked gta iv's soundtrack after a while and i think ... the past is the past... you like to have a second san andreas ? i dont think so... Grand Theft Auto V will have Los Santos and the countryside but i think it will have nothing to do with SA. Past is Past, Future is Future. Iam sure R* will choose great songs for V as for IV, SA and VC. Best music was in Vice City on Flash FM, Vrock etc...
boxmonster
I think the problem between SA/VC and GTA IV in terms of music was that the former two were both a retrospect on a certain era, while IV was set in the here and now. Looking back at a decade makes it much easier to identify certain trends in music, subculture. You know, nowadays that urban Hip-Hop has gone mainstream, you can look back at the 90ies, when it was still pretty much local sub-culture and say: This and that track was very influential for future artists, or this and that artist is going to be huge in the future and have his own fashion label, record company and basketball team. Looking back it is pretty easy to determine which cultural trends are of importance and which are just trends. And it just doesn't work that way with the present. All you can do with present tense is speculate and maybe judge from your own taste and experience which songs are going to have an impact on the music industry and which won't. With that in mind, I think the soundtrack of IV had it's hits and misses. No, just no. You pick a song and that's it, it doesn't have to be a trendsetting song or anything like that. It just has to be good. The reason IV's soundtracks are horrible is that today's music is horrible. Of course there are nice songs nowadays, but only a handful. IMO, the only way to solve it is to add 80's and 90's radio stations, just like SA's KDST, which had great 70's rock. On my phone, I wish you good luck trying to find even one recent song. All 90's and 80's here. GTA IV had a majority of its music not from this decade. I think the problem is that most of the music did not connect with the characters, setting, and time. Basically all of GTA VC's music was 80s music and that's why the soundtrack sounded so unified, a majority was very "poppy" too but no one complained. Rockstar seems to want to avoid modern pop for some reason (yeah a lot of it nowadays is club garbage/stupid cliches, but it shouldn't be impossible to find decent pop song). I'm not saying it should all be modern music but if it isn't it should connect with the game more: say a big main character happens to be a Vietnam veteran, then a psychedelic music station would be justified; if there's a roadside town full of rundown '50s architecture, then a rockabilly station might be justified. If not the soundtrack comes off as someones tacky playlist.
Sanjeem
Put it this way, any station in GTA beats the hell out of any radio station in the real world eh?
pez555
To me GTAIV's soundtrack sucked big time dude, hopefully V can have a good mix because i always found the soundtrack to be an important part of Grand Theft Auto. have to agree, although there were a few good tracks. really hope R* pull out the big guns in terms of radio. I want a station for a lot more genres of music than have been offered in the past.

It didn't connect with the game? Very funny, it fits the dark, gritty atmosphere perfect. It's the same with the GTA III soundtrack. Most people didn't like it but it fits the game perfectly. Well, the GTA IV soundtrack is better but the the music in GTA III is good, too.

SmoothGetaway
^Yep. I don't really give a sh*t what music people like, it just seems odd to write off IV's soundtrack because "modern music is teh suck". I mean it would make sense from a personal standpoint if IV's soundtrack was purely post 2000 music (I like post 2000 music as much as anything else) but its not so it doesn't. GarrowsKai
Apart from the classic 'She's on Fire' I didn't really like the music in III, from what I can remember anyway. A lot of IVs music was pretty good, like Tuff Gong (although there is more reggae than just Bob Marley lol) and Liberty Rock. Also Kanye West Flashing Lights was good, I like his stuff. I thought the rap station was crap, I agree Liberty Rock was awesome. I also think that classic music station was good, the one with all the chill high tunes. Capricornus
its set in 2012 while san andreas was set in 1992 so the music the refrences was so awesome will it live up to what san andreas had? I can see where your worries have been conceived. This time period is sh*t on many aspects, including music. Being that the 1990s was am excellent decade, I do no think that it will be in the same league as SA's. Then again, R* can make it work so time will reveal. Death2Drugs
Don't worry, my friend. Rest assured. I know the radio stations in this game will NOT be flooded with Justin Bieber. They'll find a good mix of both. New rap is sh*t and new pop is sh*t. I'd prefer if there was a radio station dedicated to 80's pop and 90's rap. That'd be amazing. Express Yourself is a classic. A modern song that has to be in the game though is this: I have no idea what the lyrics mean, which may explain why it's so good.
GarrowsKai
A good thing to have could be the option of creating your own 'radio station'. Have a 'blank' radio station (call it Custom for arguments sake) which is at the end of the 'radio list' when you're flicking through stations. Have the ability to upload your own choice of music, podcasts, whatever sound file you want really, onto the PS3/Xbox/PC and then onto GTA. Then the Custom radio channel could just either shuffle the music etc or it could give you the option to create a playlist. Having it as an actual station would also mean it could be interrupted with important news bulletins (such as those that announced the bridges were open) or go quieter when you're on the phone. To me this doesn't seem like it would be difficult for R* to code for it and would let you retain the freedom to be able to just flick round the standard stations but know you always had a station with music you liked all the time. GTA IV was really lacking in the music department for me at least

Superblaze1
Hopefully the soundtrack won't suck as hard as IV. The IV soundtrack made the SA soundtrack sound good, when it could have been a lot better in terms of capturing the 90's vibe. There's loads of great music these days, it's just not on the radio. I guess if V's radiostations suck they will at least be realistic. But I'd love R* to delve deep and bring us a wide variety of stations with something for everyone. Dang, nice Sig. did you.. use images from you know what? lol

Hugef1
I may be in a minority of one here, but I'd really like to see the return of the classical station. Mixolydian
Every decade there is a new group of people carrying on about how music just isn't any good since the previous decade. The truth of the matter is there is a lot of great music from every decade, and people who claim otherwise just haven't managed to find it. Moving on to opinion, the music in GTA IV was mostly awful. And finally, my worry: that R* will, once again, leave us stuck with a horrible on-foot camera and constantly tries to center itself, fighting against the player at every movie, with no option to switch off that behavior. That's one of the main reasons I don't play GTA IV. Here's hoping my worry is unfounded.
