San andreas had an amazing soundtrack just as vice city perfected the idea with the ideal time, that offered an amazing variety in music that flowed like the champagne at a banquette in aspen. Braindawg
It's Rockstar. Let's keep it as simple as saying this: They have enough money to license enough music to blow your mind away.

Its not a surprise that GTA SA had the best soundtrack so far. I think it will remain the same even after GTA V, contemporary music just sucks, everybody knows that. Algonquin Assassin
VC and SA had amazing soundtracks, but it was because of their time periods. I never used to like GTA IV's, but after sometime it grew on me. R* can't help it if most modern music is sh*t, but they should do a good job of picking the decent music. Though what makes VC and SA so good is music people remember growing up. Modern music just doesn't have that "magic" IMO, but it's not all bad. Coral_City
Brace yourselves, the "omg, rock stations, rock music, freddy mercury" posts are coming. In all seriousness though, GTA IV's DLC's improved on the soundtrack GTA IV had to offer. If it was up to me, we could pick and choose the type of music we want to play and skip songs we don't like. CorneliusCoffin
I think the problem between SA/VC and GTA IV in terms of music was that the former two were both a retrospect on a certain era, while IV was set in the here and now. Looking back at a decade makes it much easier to identify certain trends in music, subculture. You know, nowadays that urban Hip-Hop has gone mainstream, you can look back at the 90ies, when it was still pretty much local sub-culture and say: This and that track was very influential for future artists, or this and that artist is going to be huge in the future and have his own fashion label, record company and basketball team. Looking back it is pretty easy to determine which cultural trends are of importance and which are just trends. And it just doesn't work that way with the present. All you can do with present tense is speculate and maybe judge from your own taste and experience which songs are going to have an impact on the music industry and which won't. With that in mind, I think the soundtrack of IV had it's hits and misses.
RockStarNiko
its set in 2012 while san andreas was set in 1992 so the music the refrences was so awesome will it live up to what san andreas had? as long as they include enough "classic" radio stations it should be fine I hope there will be classic stations of rock, country, pop and hip hop then can have modern dance/pop/rock etc i also want there to be a jazz station AND a classical music station
Vormek
The music today does indeed suck. I'm not some old grunt bashing on modern music but anyone with intelligence can see that the music industry is going down the drain. Sure there are some good music still being made today but most mainstream songs are pure sh*te! 80s and the 90s are the dominating decades in music! I don't know much about the 70s though but I imagine the 70s had some good music as well. Hopefully Rockstar will have a decent soundtrack even if most of the songs will be modern songs. But we'll always have a couple of classic radio stations.
GarrowsKai
They should have a Grime station! For any non-Brits (and probably quite a few British people for that matter) who might not know about it it's sort of the UKs present day version of early 90s hip hop and rap in that its a predominantly underground urban music scene, characterised by lyrics involving crime etc but also being very clever in its delivery! I'd love a bit of that in the games (look up Mz Bratt, JME and Kano lol). They should also have a decent classics station, soul/funk, metal, hip hop/rap and maybe a ska station. Basically try to cater for both mainstream as well as a few more niche area which are producing music in 2012. Maybe even have a classical station with the likes of Mozart, Elgar and so on. xDavyJones
I really hope R* doesn't put in dubstep and that sh*t, f*ck that. If there is an oldshool rap channel i will be happy, bring back tracks from the rap ledgends into one channel, that would be awesome.

What are you talking about?? GTA IV's soundtrack was good.. It wasnt the best but it was good! @OP dont worry.. I'm sure GTA V will have an AMAZING soudtrack! I have faith in R* IV's was better than LCS that's for sure, damn the music on that game sucked. Also when have R* ever disappointed us, I mean big time. They haven't, I think it's fair to say all the main big GTA games have been successful, some more than others depending on the view of a certain individual. To me III, VC, SA and IV were all stupendous games. III because the story was good enough also first 3D GTA giving us that awesome feel. VC for the story-line, new features and soundtrack. SA for the fantastic game-play and IV for it's better graphics, deep story and just the fact how much it resembled present day New York. The thing I liked about III era GTA's most is that they ALL linked up together, un-answered questions were answered eventually and some weren't, like the Donald Love case making us, the players think more and coming up with all these conspiracies/theories! I don't think V will link in with IV at all, the DLC's pretty much answered most questions about IV and polished the whole series off. V I think will be totally new and awesome in every way, however I hope the next GTA era does what it did with III's.
reform
Hopefully the soundtrack won't suck as hard as IV. The IV soundtrack made the SA soundtrack sound good, when it could have been a lot better in terms of capturing the 90's vibe. There's loads of great music these days, it's just not on the radio. I guess if V's radiostations suck they will at least be realistic. But I'd love R* to delve deep and bring us a wide variety of stations with something for everyone. Inusan
will it live up to what san andreas had? Does it need to? GTAV and GTA: San Andreas are two entirely different games, despite the same Grand Theft Auto logo within the title. It just has to be good. The reason IV's soundtracks are horrible is that today's music is horrible. Of course there are nice songs nowadays, but only a handful. IMO, the only way to solve it is to add 80's and 90's radio stations, just like SA's KDST, which had great 70's rock. On my phone, I wish you good luck trying to find even one recent song. All 90's and 80's here.

Oh thats what he meant? I remember I used to go on SAMP with a mate and we'd reenact the scene from terminator when the bad guy was in a truck, john connor was a dirt bike and arnold was on a harley.
