Girish
What are the rest of your specifications? Do you have any mods installed? Have you updated your video drivers? Try deleting all files from the Settings folder located at; Windows XP SP3 - C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings Windows Vista/7 - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Settings

radioman
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 EditionService Pack 2 ^^^^ It seems like that is your problem-you are using SP2, and IV Requires SP3 for XP....So, update to SP3, and you should be good to go... But, you are getting over 40fps, and you are complaining?-there are people who do not get that with this game...

radioman
First of all 64bit windows does not have service pack3 ive checked every where the game runs with pack 2 and 64bit xp only has pack 2 Then you should seriously consider upgrading to Windows 7, as according to Microsoft.com here, it says that SP2 is NO longer supported... Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) ended on July 13, 2010. Plus, Windows 7 is A LOT better than XP, as 7 allows you to upgrade to 8GB(for laptops)/16GB/24GB(depending on the computer-some max. at 16 and some at 24) ram, whereas XP only allows a max. of 4GB, as I have a XP Pro machine, and it says that it can is expandable to 4GB max. ram....I have all 3 OS's-a XP Home PC, a XP Pro machine, a Vista, and a Windows 7 machine, and the Windows 7 PC is A LOT faster and plays games A LOT better than both my XP machines and my Vista machine....That right there says that Windows 7 is a lot faster than XP.-lol
Xcom46
Dud i don't care for windows 7 i came here for help not too argue and you sound too me like you don't no what your talking about your telling me stuff that i all ready know. Please if you don't have any thing use full too help with this problem then please stop posting.your starting too annoy me.And window 7 is not faster then XP.way do you think most people still use XP and most companies still use it too.Xp 32bit only lets you use 3.5 gigs of ram and windows Xp 64bit allows me too use all of my ram.Vista Sucks plane and simple. Girish
Windows 7 does have better memory management than XP but the OS has got nothing to do with the problem in this case. @Xcom46: Have you tried updating your video drivers and deleting files from the Settings folder like I suggested before? mkey82
Since you're on XP, a driver cleaner program could help you get things working normally. Often stuff like this happens after upgrades.
