GTA V graphics

So I've been testing GTA IV , Episodes and RDR on the PS3. Trying to compare in-game graphics with what I've seen in the GTA V trailer.

The GTA V trailer looks extremely vibrant and colorful, very crisp and clear vs GTA IV in-game graphics. Can it be that the GTA V trailer is made from the PC version of the game?

I really hope the footage we saw in the trailer, was not pre-rendered cut-scene gameplay. I want the finished version of GTA V to look as good as that on my PS3. I am not a programmer, so I don't really know how graphics engines and consoles work. Will changes like, getting rid of blur, fixing the colors and making everything more clear increase the power needed for a system to run it properly?

In which case why was not this done back in 2008? I mean, GTA IV runs on no more than 30 FPS, often lower on my PS3. With a graphical improvement such as GTA V, will the PS3 be able to run it without any issues? Is this a matter of graphics engine optimizing, and programming fixes to get it to look and run like that on a console?

Sorry for a very unorgranized thread, I just put every word I had in my mind onto this "paper"

/post.

Thank you, for reply's.

I do have a PC that can run GTA V without problems, but I enjoy GTA on the console, that's why I am asking.

The reason GTA IV didn't have as good graphics as GTA V because even in consoles the power of graphics evolve. In 2008 they didn't know as much about the consoles as they do now.

I've heard rumours that it may well be a release title for the next gen of consoles which would explain how the graphics are so good. I'm split on whether I think this a good thing if it is true. On one hand if it is on PS4 (or whatever it will be called) then the extra graphics and processing power would make it an amazing game. On the other had I wouldn't be too keen on forking out on a whole new console just for this one game (potentially £400 odd on first release) and there is the question of time. Consoles and games can be put back time and time again (which is a good thing, I'd rather wait an extra 6 moths than have a console full of bugs) but this is still frustrating and so such a ground breaking game such as V combined with a highly sophisticated console could end up taking years in development to get them both right.

The graphics do look very good, but I think part of the reason could be it seems brighter than IV. Look at the difference between III and VC. They were both about the same size but VC looked far more polished that III, mainly because the colours were brighter.

R* is so cheap.

GTA IV trailers looked beatifull while the actual graphics are just a pile of sh*t.

GTA V trailers looks really awesome, but when we got our hands on the game, we must puke.

I don't think a majority of the scenes were pre-rendered. The only ones that looked pre-rendered was the dudes robbing the jewelry store and the Ned Luke man in the suit on the building.

No, I don't think the graphics are too good to be true. IV was intentionally dark and grey because it was set in an October NYC time. However, GTA V in my opinion will likely be set around May-July, which means that it will intentionally look a lot more cheery. Not only that, hardware has improved since 2008. The Xbox 360 and PS3 probably have a lot more hardware power.

Bullsh*t. It's the other way around. Even the final console game looks better than the first trailer. I would recommend you an optician..

Their base hardware hasn't changed since their respective releases.

Jackie, iv trailers looked way shutter than the v trailers, so already there is a big difference, iv in game llooks the same as its gameplay.

By the way the reason games graphics get better

on the same hardware, is because programmers get better at making the game run as efficiently as possible.

The blur effect has nothing to do with processing power, it is just something added in to make cars look fast, it can be switched off in iv.

Exactly. Developers gave found ways to get their games to run better on current consoles, meaning that they can push the boundaries with bigger maps and better graphics.

Idiot, GTA IV's graphics looked not good even in the trailer, and they are really not good compared to the new games we have today. It was also Rockstar's first GTA game on a modern console so they did not really know much about it.

Believe me that GTA V will have much better graphics. I just dont understand how can the consoles run it without laggs because the map is huge and the graphics are good and there are so many details..

Well you shouldn't be worried about Rockstar playing tricks like that. As we've recently seen, Rockstar have shown seperately PC screenshots for Max Payne 3 (whereas previous assets were that of console versions). And Rockstar really hates the idea of pre-rendered footage, ESPECIALLY in trailers. Word is that it was captured on the PS3.

I hope that the game is on current gen consoles, I really don't want to spend another $500 on a game system for one game. Like others have said, the developers have mostly mastered using the current gen consoles to their full potential and what the trailer showed shouldn't be too difficult for R* to pull off. I think a good bit of the trailer was from cutscenes; the guys jogging, the man golfing, the guy in the red convertible, the guy on the balcony, the bank robbery, the guy hammering-in the sign, and the guy getting thrown out of the club look like they were from cutscenes.

I highly doubt that was from the PS3 version considering all of their PS3 games run in 640p native with little to no Anti-Aliasing. It really pissed me off to see how much better the 360 version of Red Dead Redemption looked than the PS3 version. They really need to address this issue with V.

It does NOT look blurry on my PS3

On Topic: i believe what we saw in the trailer is the PS3/Xbox 360 version.. Believe me! PC graphics looks better than this, and BTW if you think GTA V's trailer graphics are too good! Then you never played Uncharted 2 & 3 , or watched The Last of Us trailer

Well the graphics in V are pretty impressive. GTA 4 had great graphics too considering that was the first game R* used with RAGE. Also devs are unlocking more console power every day. Take for instance CoD 4 and MW3 same console but drastic graphic change.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!

I hope you were being sarcastic.. because call of sh*tty graphics didnt change one bit since COD 4, a better example would be Uncharted: drake fortune to Uncharted 2,3 (MASSIVE leap in graphics, Same console)

This again?!

Learn this before you post:

Rockstar DOES NOT use pre-rendered cutscenes for trailers, it is 100% gameplay

game trailers are never from the PC version, if they were, they'd release it the same day for consoles

The reason is this

Every company in the world manufactures goods that are designed to break down at some point

It is called planned obsolescence

The reason video games improve considerably, even though the system is the same, is because of a kind of planned obsolescence

If they made the perfect game, then there is no reason to buy any further games

They only do what they NEED to do in order to make you buy their game

They do not sit down and make the best game they can possibly make, they just do ENOUGH in order that you will buy it and go "oh woooow best game evaaar" until the following year when a new title comes out and "oh woooow best game evaaaaar" is repeated by everyone

Rockstar could in theory make an absolutely huge GTA game, but they wont, instead they will just make a game that is a step up from their previous games, just enough to satisfy us and keep us happy

Then later games will be a further step up and so on

Well that seems over-cynical. I believe they make the best they can. What are they doing for 4+ years if not working daily on the game making the best they can? Making the absolutely best game for the time is fine, because a few years later it is easy to out-do it because there's been years to create new ideas and improve the technology.

I mean, do you really think they could have made San Andreas without making GTA III and Vice City first?

According to Zee, out drinking with their money they made off us, being lazy with vacations.... however, really? How many vacations are they actually taking in the 4 odd years since??! I do feel GTA IV and now seems like a lifetime in the tech game realm, The press is complaining that the consoles are too old, but this is the Tech PC press, they thrive on new tech because they don't have to buy it all!

Look gta5 is on current consoles reason why because do really think rockstar will have you buy a new console just for gta 5 NO they will not this would be a very stupid move from rockstar as they would lose allot of money and lose sales.

The games graphics look very colorful and vibrant like you said but the ill be honest the graphics from what i saw didn't blow me away they looked good yes but ill be happy when we see some gameplay and then i can make my mind up to weather the graphics are AMAZING.

They most likely will be.

Take a look at Max Payne 3's graphics, they are jsut as good as GTA V's graphics and the game is being released in about two months on current-gen.

Stop whining, and use your common sense and realise that these consoles still have a fighting chance, theres still more power to be squeezed out, believe me.

And, @OP, Rockstar really cheered the city up in Ballad of gay Tony, you could see a lot of work was done to work with what they had, to make the city feel much more vibrant and colourful. TBoGT is how GTA IV was meant to be in the first place.

I was playing TBOGT on very high and i actually thought it looked better than the gameplay video of V.

(I know that youtube compresses the videos, its early development etc...)
