I voted Other - GTA III era

This was perfected early on, there's no logical reason to change the system. Enhance it, maybe, but not change it. Carparks could work as an addition, but not as a stand-alone system. As I've said in another thread, I would like to see a spawn system where you can purchase a spawn and buy a car for it (or store whatever vehicle you have in it, size permitting), with the spawn providing a single instance of that car, crash it etc and it will respawn but you can only have one out at a time, might need a reset function too.

I like this idea, but I don't think it should be as easy as "It just spawns back there".

When you purchase your car it should give you the choice to buy insurance, buying insurance effectivly lets the game know this is the car you want spawned.

Then everytime it is blown up you see the amount of excess taken from you wallet.

It could also have different types of insurance, more expensive=smaller excess, cheaper=larger excess.

The expensive one will be an amount that you shouldn't be able to earn that much for some time, unless you spend alot of hours doing taxi missions.

I think the idea of saving cars in a parking garage would be a great idea. You could pay a 5-10$ fee and it your car would always be in the parking lot where you left it, until you drove it out of the garage of course

This ties into my idea... car ownership.

You should be able to go to the dealers and online and purchase cars. Then the game would always keep track of where those cars where on the map, until I either got them back to my garage or sold them.

If I do a mission, take one of my owned cars from my safehouse, and have to leave it at a mission location, that car should stay spawned there until I either go back and get it (or I'd be able to take out my cell and tell one of my buddies to go get it and bring it home for me).

Could also sell the cars you own of course, adding more use to the money in the game.

having a friend take the car back to the safe house is a good idea icon14.gif

Disappearing cars in GTA IV, parked in the marked off street locations is something of a bother, but in the Stories PSP version, I was more bothered by the glitch, and it is something of a glitch if you ask me, since they are trying new things and they aren't really perfect, it seems

other:

save cars to a garage at our safehouses, be limited to the size of the garage (none of this saints row 30 cars per garage crap.)

1 car garage: 1 car, or two bikes

2 car garage: 2 cars, or four bikes, or one car, two bikes.

and on and on.

have one or two car spaces on the road, or in a parking garage for player's safe house apartments/downtown.

parking lots/garages near important areas have two spots saved/reserved for the player, one has an area specific/special vehicle (TV station: open space plus news van space.)

if you engage a mission in that building, the last car you drove on the property gets saved in the open parking space.

if the player owns a restaraunt or store, if it has a parking lot, there is 1 space reserved at each location to save a car.

in the country, the player can own a barn to save/show off up to 10 cars. (good if you want to collect rare skin cars.)

meson1 pretty much summed it up perfectly.

It's not as easy as just remembering more cars, that comes at the expense of less activities or other extras. I really don't think it's impossible to remember at least the last 2 cars used. Just by having two more "invisible" car save slots in the games memory. For example instead of giving us emails from brucie to pick up special unique cars, that could have been used to remember our own cars instead. Or instead of the Sultan RS always spawning, that could have been used to remember the location of our own car etc. Some things would obviously have to be compromised to make the feature possible. Even if the damage isn't saved (it's not necessary), just as long as by turning off the engine and locking the car, the game saves it at that location - and if they're really struggling to find the memory for this, they could make it so the car only saves for a limited time before being 'towed'.

As for car parks, I think they'd be very useful. Paying to save your car for.. say 1 or 2 in-game days, this would be enough time to complete a mission which requires another car, and the limited save time means it won't take as much memory as your permanent save spots/garages.

i think there should be a few impound lots in in each city and you can leave your car there for one in-game day and after that a tow truck comes and picks it up and takes it to the impound lot.. also being a tow truck driver should be an option.. another way to make money and it will be fun if the owners come out and try to kick your ass.. this is where the melee weapons come in (tazers, brass knucles, night sticks) haha the game will be A LOT more fun and enjoyable if the Tow Truck option happens!

.Car shouldn't disappear in 24hrs in-game time within ranged distance from player.

.Player able to check the car in 'towed-car park' (I don't know what do you call this place) if it wasn't stole.

I think V should have variety and blend options from SA and IV: garages, parking spaces, lots, airplane hangers, etc.  I'd rather V not adopt the SR system where cars are permanently stored.  The game is called Grand Theft Auto, there wouldn't be much incentive to steal cars if you retained and could summon the same vehicle at any time.  This is cheating, and there are spawn cheats that serve this very function.

I'm not sure what the bitching is all about with the parking spaces in IV.  Maybe once or twice in the years I've been playing IV has a saved car just disappeared.  (One of those times I restarted my game and the car magically re-appeared!)  Additionally, you could always just catch a cab to the Turismo dealership and enjoy the fastest car in the game with little to no effort.

As for losing cars while doing missions, use common sense.  GTA has always been this way.  If you have a rare car that you're really gay for, don't use it on missions.  In real life, you wouldn't take your prized Ferrari to a bank heist where there's the very concrete possibility that you may have to ditch your ride to evade the law.  Again, this is why the Turismo was such a beautiful thing in IV: one could be jacked at any time and there was no stress in losing it.

I agree with this. I've only had one car stolen from a parking space, but other than that they rarely disappear. It helps when you shut the engine off too.

Overall I found parking spaces far more convenient as it was as simple as jumping in straight away and I also felt it suited the areas Niko was generally occupying.

We should be able to save our cars on parking sopts anywhere, for realistic purposes. For example, when we park a car in a car park, it will stay there as soon as we get back, unless it is towed away or jacked by a carjacker.

For dealing with disk space issues with unlimited access to parking, there should simply be some "zones" in the city/countryside where you can park without being "towed"==>(unsaved vehicle). At, these zones, you approach a worker at a lot, private airport terminal, NPC-owned boating yard, or a storage facility to broker a deal for saving your vehicles there.

Nah Tso Gud

It sortve would be cool to send the car to an impound lot automatically for a period of timeas mentioned ( had the same idea actually ).. it'd give you a sortve side mission to get it back like in the newer version of Gone in 60 Seconds or in Breaking Bad, they break into the lot and drive it through the fence.

The parking meter idea would be good as well, it'd work like the toll booths though.. wouldn't require you to actually goto the meter.

Mister Pink

In Driver: PL it was cool, if you saved a car and wrecked it, it would be towed back to your garage and you could have it fixed.

They should incorporate a garage that you acquire like in SA or VC. Except it generates you money and gives you perks.

i think it should be like in L.A. noire. The last car you have driven, should always stay where you parked it

Fully on with the OP, wee do need a better system for saving vehicles or at least vehicle retention.

Even SR3 had a loophole for good vehicle retention...
